Has anyone booked a paris/london hotel for 3 person room but actually sleeps 4?
Paris/london hotels do not offer that many 4 person family rooms. I would have to book 2 double rooms instead. i thought 4 person rooms are easier to find but I guess that would be the case in north america.
I was thinking to book a triple room. Don't know if that is possible. in north america, you can book 2 person room but fit 4 in 2 double beds(much cheaper!)
what do you think??

As a rule, in Paris/London they do pay attention to how many people are in the rooms. In some of the larger hotels, you may be able to get away with it but most hotels rooms themselves are generally smaller.
There are lots of "family" rooms in hotels in London and Paris. You just need to put in the number of people in the search engines. When offered a triple room, check with the hotels and you will find that you can get an extra bed in the triple room for an additional charge.
I am saying all this assuming you are talking a family and not 4 20 somethings.

Having just travelled to both city I think your only option will be to find a family room in a larger purpose built hotel. A lot of the smaller converted townhouse hotels won't have rooms big enough to sleep 3 people.
If you get a triple it will be 3 single beds. You might be able to find one with a double/queen bed with a pull-out couch. Just be warned if it says 2 person room that's all it's going to fit unless someone sleeps in the bathtub.
Watch for specials on travelzoo I picked up some great deals and looks on tripadvisor for reviews. Do not expect north american style hotels, the Eurpope rooms will be a lot smaller when we are use to here. Enjoy the trip my wife and I loved our 2 weeks there.
