You just missed out on the Dell Vostro 1310 deal that would have netted you a better chassis, with options for better videocard etc etc for cheaper.

Might want to keep an eye out on that thread since that deal has re-incarnated once in the past already.

my thoughts exactly, I would never pay $499 for a single core celeron, two cores at 1.6 beats a 1.8 or 2.0 celeron anyday.

There hasn't been alot of interest in my thread on ultra portable notebooks, but I am taking up the cause myself to find deals on these sub 14" computers. I see dell has the 1310 (13") vostro on now for $650. To me a better deal than the past deal for 450 with celeron single core, 1gb ram.
specs are...
PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5670 (1.8GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition edit
LCD DISPLAY 13.3 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen XGA LCD Display w/TrueLife™ edit
INTEGRATED WEBCAM No Integrated Webcam or Mcrophone edit
MEMORY 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM edit
HARD DRIVE 160G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive edit
OPTICAL DRIVE 8X DVD+/-RW with double-layer DVD+/-R write capability, Data Only edit
GRAPHICS CARD IntelJ Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 edit
WIRELESS CARD Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card edit
SOUND OPTIONS High Definition Audio 2.0
Considering I paid 799 for the 12" mentioned in the first post, this is a better deal in my opinion, and its XP so speeds should be much faster. But to the defense of the acer notebook, costco do have free 2 year warrenty and 90 day return policy.... hehe. I will keep searching....

Why is there always some bloody bugger that will refer to some Dell deal while this is a 12" and T5450 ?
The 12" is valid, but the Dell 1310 actually had a better C2D T5670 for $50 or a T5870 for $100 options.

just got off the phone with dell rep, couldn't get anybetter price on the 1310, he also informed me it came with a 4 cell battery, which in his opinion is usless, he suggested to upgrade to the 6 cell for another 50 dollars, so if this is the case, the deal is not so good at $699
The 12" tablet from HP is at 999$ with amd x2 2.2ghz.... with touch screen, but its 200 more than my 12" acer and is it really justified?

For a student, tablet functionality is amazing. I've used one note quite a bit and its really great how you can type notes and then switch to the stylus and write math functions, diagrams, charts etc. I haven't used any HP tablets but the IBM x60 tablet ive been playing around with is great

from the tablet sold on Dell's site, the HP ones at Staples and FS are a steal at 999.99$

I got this quote from BB's website for its tablet 12"er
Optimize your mobility with a 12.1" display that has the same viewable area as a 15.4" screen in an ultra-portable notebook that weighs up to 2 lbs less.
what does that mean?

It means it's a high-resolution 1280x800 12" display, which is the same default resolution as a basic 15" laptop.

if it said that it would be self explanitory but it says "viewable area" not viewable resolution.

the higher resolution means a larger viewable area on the desktop
