Excuse me? A Chinese buffet place offering deals on $6.66 or $4.00 purchases? Watch out.

I won't go back to this place again. They are sub par. Food usually been sitting for awhile. Greasy spoon. You get what you pay for.

Ate there before long ago and I wouldn't go back there either. Mandarin is still the best.

I agree, Mandarin is still the best, although I have never been to China Buffet before. Still plan to give it a try, of course with a more watchful eye now.
I will go when they first open, that way there the food will be freshly cooked. I guess everybody voices their own opinions about certain places. I've heard of people saying the same thing about the Mandarin, and yet, every time I have gone there, I had to complaints,......the food was great as usual.

Not a big fan of mandarin. They are expensive and the food selection is not very good.

Starwalk or china buffet king is much better. I've never tried "china buffet".

I thought this thread is about China Buffet "King" for a second...

So basically for me, I will go to Mandarin if I want good quality food and Starwalk/China Buffet King if I want to go for food selection. .

Never heard of China Buffet, but that pricing scheme does seem suspicious...You get what you pay for I suppose.

I was at Imperial Buffet on Dixie and Dundas for lunch this past weekend and was impressed with the selection and quality - I thought it was better Mandarin. and I love Mandarin.

This place isn't so bad. The service isn't the greatest, nor is the ambiance but the food is good. I find the food better than Mandarin but it just doesn't have anywhere near the same selection. It also doesn't have the same price. BTW most of the Mandarin's food is greasy, fried crap. Mandarin has better desserts. But this is a great alternative to Mandarin especially when you don't want to eat as much. We went at Christmas when Mandarin wanted $17.99 for lunch and this place wanted $5.99. My nephews really like this place.

The days of cheap (as $$) buffets were over. Everything has gone up. If you find sub $10 place, just watch out as someone mentioned above.

Not a big fan of mandarin. They are expensive and the food selection is not very good.

I've never been to "Starwalk" or "China King" before, I do plan on going next time out. Are these two recommended? I've been to "Imperial" with my entertainment book coupons, but, I ended up going there late and everything was dry.I will give it a second chance though at a more appropriate time. I do like Mandarin except for the fact that they do have a lot battered and fried food, and by the time you want desert, you're stuffed like an egg roll and you can hardly move.I swear to god that some of these restaurants lace their food with something to make you feel bloated, so you don't eat as much.
Like I said before, everyone seems to have their opinion for each particular place. In my opinion, the best time to go to one of these buffets is when they first open in the morning or lunch time,.....one can better evaluate the place when the food is fresh. It's not their fault really when the food sits a little too long and it dries out, but, they should have someone there to at least stir it so drying is at a minimum.
Happy dining!!!

I am looking for a place to stay somewhere in the GTA for the months of July and August. I have been staying at motels every time I go, and I would like to cut my cost down a little. My stay might become permanent, as I do want to get out of the Sudbury area. My wife and my son really love what the Toronto area has to offer, and we really want to move there permanently.Sudbury has nothing to offer kids except for Burger King and MacDonald's playland. If you know of any place can you PM me with the information? Thanks! I will pay in advance.

Which Kings Buffet are we talking about?

That is what we have here in Sudbury, "Kings Buffet", and I've been to most of them except for the Kitchener one. They're ok I guess, and if you live in a place like Sudbury, it would be one of the better choices next to "Peking Gazebo's" buffet. King's Buffet in Huntsville, has to be the worst one of them all. They offer very little as far as food choices and deserts go. Salad bar is alright.Whatever happened to the good old days of the "buffet wars"!!! They used to have these in Edmonton, Alberta some time back, and one could go have lunch anywhere for between $2.99-$5.99, and $6.99 was considered expensive. It was so cheap to eat out, it wasn't worth cooking at home. The restaurant bill was less than the grocery bill every month.

This place is just terrible, "worst Chinese buffet... ever." If you don't really care what you eat, and are buffet-hungry, fine... go. But, if you have any, and I mean ANY taste at all... you will suffer. I absolutely hated this place, and like the other poster said, wouldn't eat here even for free. Down the road, Wong's is like 1-2 dollars more, but better. Not saying its good (I wouldn't go there again either), but compared to this place, its heavenly. Mandarin is of course a lot better, but is significantly more expensive. I'm gonna go so far as to say ANY Chinese buffet is better. I went to a place in Mississauga that was around 6 bucks that was a lot better too.. what was it called... mmm can't remember... near Dundas and Glen Erin.

Same here. Looks like it's not though, would be a hot deal if it was. I like the food and selection at China Buffet King (6 different types of soup!).

Just got back from Imperial in Scarborough and the food there wasn't any good either. I wouldn't go there except I had a 2 for 1 coupon for Lunch. They have a new larger dessert area that rivals Mandarin, but the rest isn't good. I still have a 2 for 1 coupon for Dinner, but it's due June 26th. PM me with an address to mail to you if anyone wants to try it. I believe dinner has crab legs. I think there are 3 locations. Offering this coupon because I will be out of town soon and won't be able to use it. The coupon is not good for Father's day and Saturdays. I went on Sunday.

Wong's is significantly more expensive than this place. Dinner buffet is $17.99 Mon. - Thurs. vs. $6.66 at China Buffet. Lunch at Wong's is $10.99 vs. $5.49, that's double the price. You may be thinking of Chan's which is closer in price at $7.50 for lunch but not dinner at $12.99 Mon. - Thurs. I've never been to Chan's and only been to Wong's once but the food at Wong's was the best of any Chinese buffet that I ever had, definitely better than Mandarin. This was food that I would actually consider ordering as takeout whereas I would never order takeout from Mandarin.

Hubby and decided to try out this location last night. We had our 8 year old son with us. He did NOT want to go. He hates trying anything new. He loaded his plate with onion rings, frees, pizza, General Tao's Chicken and croutons (those little dried cubes of bread that go on salad, can't remember how to spell it). He said he LOVED the place because he doesn't have to wait for the food to be served and that he could have croutons without the salad. :cheesygri
We then watched as he eat so much dessert that we thought we'd have to get a forklift to get him out of the resturant. I don't know where he put it all.

I am still going to try "China Buffet" when they first open for business just before lunch, it is the best time to eat at any buffet in my opinion, because everything is fresh.

I know what you mean Angela, my son is the same way.His favorite is the "chinese masseghetti", as he calls it, and picks at all the little things, like croutons, olives, pizza, etc.... I know exactly what you're saying about the forklift, I feel like an over stuffed egg roll myself, when I leave. If I had to pick between "Imperial" , and "Mandarin", I would have to pick "Mandarin", only because of the desert bar, and the nice hot towelettes when your done. Do you know of any other good buffets in the GTA and surrounding areas? Thanks

Well I went there tonight and here's my experience,

We went in about 6:30 and the place was empty. There were two people way at the back eating, but either then that no one was there. We didn't see any workers there either until some guy finally came out. He walked up to us and said "yeah?" as if we were inconviencing him or something. We showed him the coupon and said we'd like the buffet please. For some reason he couldn't understand us? We talk perfect english so I don't understand why he couldn't understand what we were saying. I handed him the coupon and he said that he couldn't except it because they didn't take "copies" and needed the real coupon. It was very hard to understand what he was saying anyways. We didn't end up eating there because of the way the server had spoken to us, as well as the food looked like it had been there for quite some time anyways.

Also, we saw behind the counter that it says they charge 10% service charge for anyone who uses the coupon also? Assuming you go at dinner time a regular buffet costs $7.99, with the 10% added with the coupon the total costs $7.32 before taxes. Certainly not much of a discount, and with service like that, we will never go there again.

I tried Wongs when I moved here to brampton. It was ok but I thought it was too expensive for the food they served. I actually like Chans alot. For the price it is decent. The grilled food is good. My wife enjoys the shrimp (shell on) when they serve it - usually for dinners.

I heard Mongolian grill is good too - Don Mills north of Eglinton

I live by this. Its a run down, cheap looking buffet. I mean really cheap looking. Now I heard its at least decent in taste but then again, the price matches what you get. No where are you going to pay so little for so much more. The philosophy of you pay for what you get always describes a buffet accurately. /End
