not about profit.
about getting free movies!!!!
im not planning on selling the movie tickets or anything!!!
I just want to go to cheap movies seeing how 99% of the movies are so bad after all the hype with trailers that its only worth like the $5 it cost for 5 packs of skittles.
Anyone know if there is any limit per household or person?
if not, any limit for envelope we send it?
thanks for all your help!

It seems like locating the envelops is the key cuz it states that there's a Coupon within the pre addressed envelops so I assume that the amount of movie tickets available are limited to the amount of envelops that they printed... Working out the math:
$22.95 + 5% GST = $24.98/36 = $0.67 x 5 pack = $3.35 + $0.52 stamp = $3.87 per movie ticket
There will be 1 pack of skittles left over >_> but still a pretty hot deal.

The problem is if you take off the UPC, the packaging will be opened since the UPC's on the wrapper... I don't think any places/people would accept the candy as a donation, let alone pay for 'em.

Asked the store mgr. He held them back behind the counter! He says you have to buy 5 pkgs before he'll give you one envelope!
It makes sense. It would really be unethical (or unlawful? Wonder if Macs would call it stealing?) to just grab the envelopes and buy skittles elsewhere. Macs would definitely lose out if this happens (and sounds like it already has at other stores)
Macs does sell them for $1.29/ea. 5 with taxes=$7.29
So basically you get the skittles for free since CAA sells tickets for about $8.

How possibly it would be unethical or unlawful?
You are going to buy an X amount of MARS products (does not matter where would you buy that product from) and they will reward you with a movie tickets.
"Macs would definitely lose out if this happens" ???? MARS will deliver Movie tickets to you as a token of appreciation and as a result Mac's "would lose" - I am not following your logic...

This was exactly my rationale (Thanks Western for looking up the sponsorship info.) It does not make business sense for MACS to put up a nice display to allow people to take envelopes WITHOUT purchasing any skittles.
Yes, MARS will benefit from sales of Skittles at other retailers but MACS will lose.
But fault MACS for not incl an original receipt as part of the mail-in requirements.

Does anyone know if the UPCs change? For example, maybe the Skittles packages in the new display has different UPCs than the older ones from Costco, or the dollar store.
Original Skittles packs from Cdn Tire ($1.09) have the same UPC as the ones at Mac's ($1.29).:) No skittles at my local Dollarama:(

Care to explain the pricing? Most members are mentioning Skittle package prices over $1.00 each. Plus the stamp of the package.
So how did yours workout to be under $5? Curious, not sarcastic.

.78 + tax per package = 4.40 per 5 packages + .60 per stamp = $5 per ticket (plus your time)
I thought it was more like $4.90 a ticket, but $5.00 per is still alright.
I bought them for .78 at Giant Tiger btw.

maybe people didn't get them because jacka$$es took a whole stack to sell on ebay.
It's a shame that someone will actually buy these off them as well. It almost makes me want to create a new account just so I can bid on the item and then not pay them. After all, I don't want to taint my actual account.

They probably are hiding the envelops. I went to one today and they were behind the counter. The cashier would only let you have one if you bought 5 packs of Skittles. She said Mac's keep record of how many Skittles are sold.
I also went to another Mac store today and they would only let you take one envelop per purchase. So I'm going back tomorrow and buying 1 pack of Skittles and getting another. Or I'll jam 5 or 6 envelops in my purse tomorrow. The store owner also said Mac's headquarters keeps track of Skittles has been sold too.

Selling the envelopes on ebay is definitely scummy.
But how about taking (or stealing?) the envelopes from Macs without buying any Skittles from them (like some people's intentions are)?
In my earlier post, one Macs stored held the envelopes back behind the counter, explaining I needed to buy Skittles from him before I'm entitled to an envelope.
Smart guy. Why should other retailers such as Costco benefit from this Macs sponsored promotion?
But it's stupid of Macs for not requiring an original receipt in the mail-in.
roy
Jun 12th, 2008, 05:11 PM
The envelopes don't cost anything, so no, it's not stealing. Often there are coupons on shelves in grocery stores. It's not stealing to take them, whether you use them at the store or somewhere else. They are trying to promote the sale at the given location, that's all. Keep in mind, Skittles is part of this promotion too, and whether you buy at Costco or Mac's, they still get the additional business.
These kinds of comments are typical... OP posts a good deal, people who miss out post ******** things about dishonesty/ethics.... I suppose it's sometimes justified, but usually just sour grapes.
I will agree though, selling the envelopes on Ebay is scummy...

I just caught the tail end of the deal, but still got about $120 worth of gift certificates after spending less than $20 on mentos. The GCs could be used basically anywhere-- HMV, Future Shop, A&B Sound-- with no minimum purchase required.

The ones at Costco selling for $23.99 (for 36) have the same UPC.
Note that the 36-pack selling at Costco in the U.S. for ~$18 do NOT have the same UPC!

I haven't seen a Dollarama carry any packs of Skittles or Starbursts in a very long time. I work near a Dollarama and in there quite frequently.
Also, if you are buy Skittles make sure the bar code is the same as the one they're selling in Mac stores like the ones at Costco. I e-mailed them a few days ago and verified with them not just any old pack of Skittles will get you a ticket. Since a third-party company is running the Skittles 5 promotion they will be picky.

Besides Costco, what is the best place to get Skittles in Toronto? Any dollar stores with 2 for $1? I know someone mentioned $1.49 for 2, what store was that?
Also, am I correct that all the skittles packs (around 60g) are good for this promotion, no matter where you buy them? I think there's only 1 UPC for each flavour, eg. if you get the original red package 61g, the UPC is always the same and correct for this promo whether you buy it from macs or costco or some local convenience store (as long you buy them in canada)
And does anyone know about any limits per household? Anyone know if it's 1 movie ticket per household max or is it just 1 ticket for every 5 UPCs you send in?

Trying to get 21 movie tickets is excessive. It is actually very humorous that you can't find the envelopes.
All you have to do is ask the clerks for the envelopes and they will give you 2 or 3. They wont give you 21.
Unfortunately it is people that take advantage of deals that make them not happen again... getting 5 or even 10 tickets is reasonable.

I think that means limited amount of envelopes. If they in deed prepapre less tickets than envelopes, that's false advertisement.

For anyone in Hamilton looking for envelopes the Mac's on Herkimer (4? blocks east of St Joe's Hospitol) still had about 14 envelopes out - not sure if they have more out back. That was around 6:45 tonight.

Giant Tiger has them for 0.78 each as a regular price - not as good as the recent Rexall deal or the Costco price but if you missed out or don't have a membership than this isn't too bad ($4.41 for 5 packs incl ONT taxes)

ok, not to be a (lack of good word to describe the feeling) but i ALMOST feel guilty not buying the Skittles at Mac's.
I work in CPG and i know some poor guy at M&Ms sold the idea into Mac's sayind "this will drive ton's of volume to your stores"... now to take the coupons and buy the Skittles elsewhere... I mean, ultimately i'll do it but ...

I think there's going to be a lot of Mom's and Dad's out there who have walked into Mac's to find this promotion and know nothing of this (or any other) message board and wouldn't go to the extent that we are.
Heck, they're probably only one package 3 or 4 of skittles and need to buy another to send in one envelope.
Besides, if Skittles wanted to limit who can get what, they should have put that in the rules. They haven't and they've been honouring what they've setup, which is nice. I hope this continues.
At the end of the day, I've purchased more Skittles than I ever have so ... they're winning somehow.

I filled a one liter jar full of 'em and threw away the rest. But that's only because no one in my house likes candy that much, which is why the jar has barely been touched. But honestly, there's little to no nutritional value in Skittles and it's not like you're really wasting anything by tossing them; it's just sugar and food colouring.

I just got back from Walmart in Milton, Ont. They had the regular fruity, and the Chocolate on for $0.50 a pack, the Tropical ones scanned at $0.97 .
I scanned the packages to confirm that they came up properly, and then asked to peak to a manager. I told the Cash Superviisor that came that I was looking to buy a lot of Skittles for a contest and asked what kind of discount could I get if I bought a case or so. We agreed that they could take an extra -15% off at the cash since I was buying so many.
At the cash, they came up fine at 0.50, but instead of taking a percent discount, he and the cashier voided 9 and then rang them in again at $0.00 value. The total (with tax) came to $23.17 for 50 packages ($0.46 each tax in). It was not exactly the correct accounting method, but I wasn't going to say anything.
There were 20ish packages of the Chocolate left. YMMV on the additional discount. It never hurts to ask.
I have a receipt scan but can't see how to drop it in without having it hosted on a 3rd party site.

Anyone knows if I can send the hole pakage? I don't see any reason why they would deny it if I send the hole packages rather than cut those tiny UPC codes and send them only.
I will try with the hole packages, hopefully they will send my tickets :)
I was lazy as well...they DO accept the whole package. I can confirm.

That's a damn good deal! I think I bought a case at Sam's Club for ~$25 and it wasn't 50 packs.

I was at the Couche Tard on St-Jacques Street (near the Bell Centre) and I saw a full stack of envelopes. I took 7, but for anyone interested, there was a bunch left over there!
Also, I sent in 7 envelopes in early July and received my passes. I was so happy that it worked that I emailed the skittles promotion team to ask about whether they had sufficient supplies to keep the promotion going until August 26th, here's what they had to say:
[[I]Thank-you for your participation in the Skittles 5=Free promotion!
The rules state that the contest will remain open until August 26th, or while supplies last--- therefore if their are envelopes remaining in the Mac's Convenience stores, you are still eligible to enter the promotion.
Thanks again.

From the email, However, I cannt see how confirmable they used the word "eligible" - back to their previous statement "the contest will remain open until August 26th, or while supplies last". So, no new at all.

Send them to me:lol:
No, actually, go to a candy shop and buy some fancy bags (like candy mountain) and then add a cute ribbon or bow and give those to friends for chrismas, birthdays, holidays ect....
I think candy mountain sells cellophane bags for .25 or .50 each?
or put in a cute Dollarama (not sure how food safe some of the stuff there is for storage) box or whatever and give as a gift.
I'm hoping to get some skittles for one ot 2 tickets.
Can't make it to walmart, but I know the shoppers near me has a points machine and 500 points on any candy coupon.
Pay about $1 for skittles, buying 7 bags separately gets you 3,500 points or $5 worth of points.
Might try that.
Not as good as paying .50 cents, but still an ok deal.

Start throwing with the skittles at birds!
Personally every 1-2 days I eat an average 1 hand-full of skittles.
I'm guessing it would last me 2-3 months at this rate (and I only sent 9 envelopes, how about you who sent 50 :P).

Make up some gift bags to give to teachers or people at your office or whatever for the holidays.
My mom usually makes mixed nuts with seasonings, but I think most people would rather have candy.
I've seen this done with M&M's and then put in a coffee mug for more decoration- dollarama has cheap coffee mugs too!

No you can't scan them because every ticket has a unique bar code number. The admit one pass will only work once.
I have a friend who works at a Silvercity and she said there are security features embedded on all the passes too. You can tell the difference between a fake one and real one by the little squiggly lines on them. There's also the light faded Cineplex logo in the top left corner. The lines and logo won't show up if you duplicate the pass.
I'd laugh if someone trying to make multiple copies of a pass and the police get involved for fraud.

You can't save on postage you need to put 5 UPC in each envelope and mail them each indivdually. You don't have to cut out the UPC you can just shove the whole wrapper in.

I mailed out sets of tickets (7 each) on August 1 August 15. I had yet to receive anything, however today I received a envelope containing one of my second batch of submitted envelopes saying it didn't meet the requirements. They had written that there was no UPC's on my envelope, even though they are stapled to the contact card. I also received one movie ticket in a separate envelope. My concern is that I will not receive any more tickets, since they appeared to have process my second batch.

I find it hard to believe I sent all 5 the same time, same mailing place, same way and how come they were able to send me 3 in the same envelope and not find my other 2 envelopes separately til weeks later after I complained and didnt get a response for over a week and a half....
