It's my first time posting a thread :)

I'm looking for 2star/3star hotels in london and paris. Do you know where i can find cheap price but decent hotels?

Need help for London especially because it seems to be more costly than paris.

My trip is in July and there is not much time left!

www.wotif.com. I have used them, good prices and there has never been an issue at check in ( I did have some with hotels I booked through Expedia).

How much are you expecting to spend?

Stayed at the Hilton London Tower Bridge in Sep07 for 1 night; advance purchase rate was 99GBP (booked like 2 months in advance though)

https://secure.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=LONTBHI

It's a fairly new hotel (opened 2007?); office complex next door with numerous cafes/restaurants & a convenience/snack shop run by Marks & Spencer. Rooms are huge by European standards.

If you spend a little bit of time learning how to use it, www.priceline.com will get you cheaper 4* hotels in London than most 2*-3* hotels in London, and in decent to good locations.

I stayed at the Hilton Olympia last near (not great location, but good hotel) for ~$100CAD / night last may using Priceline. www.hotwire is another good alternative.

www.betterbidding.com will help explain and give tips to both sites.

Also, www.tripadvisor.com is excellent if you are using www.wotif.com, Expedia, or any other search engine. There is a lot of quality differences, even amongst 2* hotels.

I'll second Priceline.... I stayed at the same location for a similar price. It was nice because there was a direct train from Gatwick to the station (there is a rail/tube station beside it, although the tube station isn't a major one)

IBIS and Traveloge offer great prices if you are just looking for a place to stay for the night.

thanks for the replies, everyone! i've checked out the hilton olympia but summer price is way more than $100 CAD.

I'm hoping to find hotels that are $125/per night CAD or lower.
I've tried www.tripadvisor.com, hotels.ca and expedia.ca so far.
will try to check out your other suggestions.

How about paris?? any good hotels that you can recommend me?

I got Hilton Olympia for $99 USD/nite for three nights using priceline for early September. How's the hotel? Any tips?

use priceline and the help sites betterbidding or biddingfortravel (http://biddingfortravel.yuku.com/forums/105/t/England-London.html), bid close to what another person got the other hotel for, you'll get the hilton or another similar 4* hotel for around the same price. Make sure to check out the tips on those messageboards, and make sure you know what areas you are looking for.

in Paris I enjoyed the small hotel Eiffel Rive Gauche, very quaint with a great breakfast every morning. although I got it on sale at expedia. My room had a great view of the Eiffel tower.

The hotel was pretty good. As noted by go leafs, you are right beside a train station that gets you to Gatwick Airport, and a tube station as well. The tube station a branch off one of the main lines, so subways aren't as common (every 15 minutes), but you are one stop away from main lines, and it is walkable in nice weather. I would say you are 15-20 minutes from central London by tube, it really feels like nothing at all once you get used to the tube system. You WILL be on the tube if you want to go anywhere in London. :)

The area around the hotel is quiet, the hotel rooms were good, and I would stay there again. Considering most crappy 2* hotels run you $100+ in London, this was FAR FAR better. Also, there is a *great* sushi place nearby, called the Hare & Tortoise‎. It's a little pricey (as with everything in London), but the quality of the sashimi and sushi were amazing. Highly recommended if you like sushi at all.

lugguage, you won't find these prices posted anywhere but Priceline and Hotwire, and even then you won't usually know exactly what you are getting until it's booked. I *HIGHLY* suggest you look at Priceline ('Name your own Price')and Hotwire to book your hotels, in both Paris and London. $125 will likely get you a 3-4* place in both cities, in decent locations. :)

I learned about priceline before my Europe trip last year, and used it for that trip. I now book through either Priceline or Hotwire 90% of the time. It is SO much cheaper, and you get a great hotel.

I found some great deals on travelzoo and then used tripadvisor for reviews. I looked for a long time to get the best deal. I ended up get two 4 star hotels in London for $199/night, in the center of London is was great we could walk to almost everything. Paris was about $170-180/night at the 3 hotels we stayed at. 2 in Paris and 1 in the countryside.
