I am flying down to US and coming back to Canada by car.

What do I need to demonstrate at border in order to avoid a denial?

I do intend to come back as my family and work are here. However, I was googling online, and basically without actual proof such as return ticket can get really troublesome and denial is not unlikely.

I am wondering if anyone had any experience recently and could shed some light on how to best approach this.

Right now the round trip is about 300 dollars if I buy a round trip and one way is only 162.

Thanks

Are you Canadian?

If you're Canadian and have a Canadian passport I think you might be alright.

I would bring proof of employment, if possible a recent pay stub. If you have a semi-decent job that should be good enough.

I've been on a bus across the border and a whole bunch of people didn't have return ticket. The guard bothered them for a little bit then let them go saying "I have to bug ya at least a little bit".

Its really not a black and white thing, just avoid bringing excessive luggage. Of course be honest and truthful because if your planning to come back, then you are really not doing anything wrong.

I think they are more concerend about people with Visa's or landed status.

I fly back and forth from the US almost every week. When I fly to the US, I don't have a return ticket yet because I don't know exactly when I'll be returning. The question has never come up.

On the other hand, I do have a track record of returning which I suppose is available online to a border officer.

I fly to the US on one-way tickets quite frequently. Never had a problem.

If you're really worried, buy a fully refundable return ticket. Might cost you $1000 on your credit card for a few days, but you could just call the airline to cancel/refund it as soon as you clear US Customs.

as long as you make it clear that you are not going to work down their you shouldn't have an issue

This is very important, the American customs would prefer to find someone trying to get a job in their country vs someone trying to bomb it:o
