We will be in Vancouver for the Madonna concert at the end of oct. where would be a good place to stay that is close to BC Place? Not sure if we are flying or driving yet so how close is the airport to BC Place?

The airport is about 15-20 min drive from BC Place. 30$ cab fare.
There are a few hotels near BC Place, Travelodge on Georgia is across the street, etc. Most of the downtown hotels will be within a 10-15 min walk from BC Place.
Have fun.

Its a pretty compact city (the downtown area anyways).
Check into the Blue Horizon and the Sylvia Hotel, reasonable rates and good locations depending on what you are looking for.

If you're on a budget, I recommend the YWCA hotel, which happens to be right across from BC place. Despite being in the budget price range, the hotel gets some pretty decent reviews on TripAdvisor. I stayed there in the summer of 2006, and it suited my needs perfectly.

FWIW, I almost always stay at the Sheraton Wall Centre...rates are usually in the 200 range. There is a Holiday Inn Suites just around the corner that is a bit less. Both are quite close.

Thanks, will look into these. It's a girls weekend away without kids so we want a decent place. Thanks again.

Then search for a 4 star hotel on Priceline. My brother gets great deals there whenever he visits. Hilton, Pan Pacific, etc, at sometimes less than 100$. Check out betterbidding.com on tips to get a good bid in Vancouver.

Note that their is a SkyTrain station right outside BC Place (Stadium - Chinatown), meaning any downtown hotel is within a 5 minute ride.
The immediate neighbourhood around BC Place is not really gentrified, and there is not as much shopping or attractions there compared to other areas in City Centre.
The nicer places are along the water to the northwest, but they are close to Burrard and Waterfront SkyTrain stations.

Book a hotel that you can cancel if you find something better. Then do your research on betterbidding and biddingfortravel.com and try to score a 4-star hotel for cheap on priceline as you get closer to the date. That's your best bet. Unfortunately if lots of people are in town for the concert, there might not be a lot of hotel room inventory for that night.

Yeah, you'll be fine with any decent hotel downtown because of skytrain. Maybe I'm used to it since I live here, but I don't really have a problem with the immediate neighbourhood around BC Place. It's as you get closer to Chinatown and Hastings that you want to stay away from. But you won't end up there even if you walk from your hotel to the stadium (walk along Georgia and you'll be fine). There'll be plenty of people downtown before and after the concert so there won't be any problems.
As for getting downtown, if you're just coming for a couple of nights with small bags, you can take the bus downtown. I think it's the 424, transferring to the 98 B-line. Should be less than or something and fairly comfortable unless during rush hour.
