Not only cellphones., ANYTHING. Laptop Screens., Digital Cameras., PDAs., etc etc, You've got a surface you need protected, It can be done.

I've been using these products Since January on a variety of cellphones, and I couldn't be happier. While I initially placed a +$100 order from a variety of the different stores online., I have had issues with the other models., with these guys, I have not.

New Coupon code 'Holidays09' for 40% off.

This was geared specifically for the n95-4 thread (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=592602), but it's good for the entire store, so it snowballed.

Enjoy!

This is currently the cheapest price for Full Body Shields among the Zagg., Clarivue., etc etc variety of Stores. Quality is Top Notch!

Enjoy!

Useage instructions:

Go to the website:
www.protechyourdevice.com
Select your products
Go through Check-out, and when prompted for the coupon code, enter it and wait for the delivery!
Cheers.

[post 388]...I've used the best skins ever skins, the zagg skins and the protechyourdevice skins and my opinion is that the pyd skins are the least tacky feeling under your fingers. They are what I recommend to friends now for touch screen devices (even for scroll wheel ipods, the lesser tackiness is welcome).

Designed for the military

This material is super tough. Originally designed for the military to protect its helicopter blades from rocks and other debris, the Protech offers your device the ultimate protection against scratches and scuffs.

Lifetime Warranty

We are so confident in the Protechs durability that we back it up with a lifetime warranty. That means if it ever gets damaged while protecting your device, well send you a replacement for free. YepFREE!

Thanks for going to the trouble of securing an RFD coupon. However, I note that for the full body skin for the iPod Touch (which is what I'm looking for), that even with the coupon, this site is still more expensive than bestskinsever.com

Ouch...that's too bad, oh well-Can't win'em all I guess.

I will say one thing though. To a certain extent the templates for all these different guys is nearly the same. I have however found the best template for example was from P.Y.D. for my Curve. There was a few mm's here and a few mm's there that I noticed the other companies had cut off for some reason.

BSE leaves little spaces in between parts. If there are buttons on the surface, you won't have a smooth finish.

At least, that is my experience with them. Not sure if these are any better

Not even, I really want to get a skin for my N95-8, The default screen protector is getting icky

Most places redirect to a PayPal payment screen but this one doesn't. Though I just allowed scripts, it works. Is it just me or is the item unnamed and has a blank slot. Oh god, I named it and now I can't rename it :o

Well, payment went though, we'll see how it goes!

I wouldn't do that until you know which version is coming. The 3G iPhones are going to be announced next week and the shield may not be applicable.

...I liked the IS but my first time applying it wasn't as smooth as I had hoped and bubbles began to form. SIGH.
oh yeah baby, it's definately NOT for the faint-hearted.

The whole PREMISE of applying a WETTED shield to a piece of expensive electronics is such a foreign concept I'm sure to many...but it would seem this is the only ideal manner to perfectly apply these things.

If you had a simple stick-on application, you'd have no 'play' to realign a misaligned sheet, and would thus be SOL. Being able to glide the piece around those precious mms is a Life Saver, and truly the only way a pro wants their sheets applied.

I find you REALLY need to focus though. I like to use up 2 or 3 small bowls, so that whatever lint, and fibres accumulate in the application aren't screwing things up, and I constantly have a CLEAN solution to work with. The spray bottle from IS., is a little weird for me, and I prefer the submersion in a bowl approach.

IT DOES TAKE SOME VERY SHARP SKILLZ to effectively apply these, do not be naive and think this is easy.

....soap+water?
Soap and Water indeed.

Thanks ... just ordered a screen protector for my HTC Touch. They don't offer the whole body for the touch nor do I want it. Came to $6.49 after discount. Hopefully better than the one I have on it now. Seems expensive for a screen protector to me ... but the lifetime warranty will hopefully make it worthwhile if I ever need a new one. The IS one cost 11.99 so that's almost half price. IS also had a full body for 24.99 which is both expensive and probably not needed for me.

I bought a BSE for my PSP and it was amazing, granted i had to use displex on the screen before installing the protector(that displex does wonders, made my screen look brand new!)

I just installed a protech skin on my brother's LG8800 and it seems to be the same as the BSE skins except in comes in a nice plastic pouch. I think you should be fine either way, just get whichever is cheaper since the product seems the same.

Its a little hard to explain but if u look at the curve from the side there is the rubber and the silver part, not the buttons I never expected that but i figured the silver parts which are most likely to be scratched would be covered and not the rubber that is fairly hard to scratch

This kind of stuff is snake oil, and I've never understood why people eat it up for every single little device they buy.

I've said it before... unless you're throwing things around in sandboxes full of broken glass, by the time any appreciable amount of scuffing is obviously apparent on the device that only you will ever see or care about, it will be obsolete and likely be on your list of things to replace anyway.

towhytea
Jun 10th, 2008, 11:28 PM
It is similar to a screen protecter but I find it doesn't get as much dirt on it and sticks to the phone very well. Mine came in a couple different pieces and u just put it on with some soap and water and let dry a bit harder then it sounds but thats the concept. I would say if u like ur phone to stay as mint as possible its worth the money. I took a pen to the screen today and only minor scratched to the sheild it self

Mind you, full body casing for N95-8GB is available on dealextreme for less than $4.

I have ordered it just in case and it is pretty darn good quality too. Backside even has Nokia logo on it like the original. I have the unbranded N95-4 btw and can only compare it to that.

thank you for posting this! I would assume the material/quality is similar if not exact to BSE, which I have used on many products. Keeps everything super shiney even after 2 years.

Only problem with BSE is that their selection is fairly lame, not nearly enough products, but they have awesome customer service. They dont advertise a life time warranty, but if you email them and complain that you had a problem with their product, you'll get another, FREE, and they wont ask you to ship back your other one

For things like phones I do think you are correct, Most phones last about 2-4 years until either you need to replace them due to bad reception or horrible battery life, or there are just better phones out.

However for things like Nintendo DS, PSP, MP3 players, Cameras and to a certain extent Laptops, I think these products are worth the money.

Ive used Bestskinsever.com and Zagg. Both great products as long as the prices are not outrageous. Less than 10 buck or I dont buy.... Except for my PS3 Skin. Still havent put it all on though. So hard to put it on...

1) You'll have to email them directly to get that answer
2) Yes functionality is preserved. I'm sure there's a small degree of decreased response as that is inevitable..but ultimately it's still works fine. There should be slit where the speaker is.

I read somewhere that the InvisibleShield is highly adhesive, and if your device has an anti-glare coating, it might rip it off when you remove it. Wondering if ProtectYourDevice is similar in this respect.

I use Expert Shield (www.expertshield.com), which claims to be tough and yet easy to remove. It's also cheaper than InvisibleShield.

I got my 3G iPhone full body skin in about 9 days.

The skin itself feels like a totally different material than what BSE uses. BSE skins seem a lot smoother and more "grippy" when placed on smooth surfaces.

I had a BSE for my 2G iPhone that did turn yellow after 4-5 months of use, and it also picked up colouring from my pants :D This was especially obvious because the backing of the first iPhone was silver, making the yellowing/colouring more obvious.

In general, I prefer the BSE skin over the PYD skin. The screen protector portion just isn't smooth enough to do all the sliding and pinching that iPhone requires. I think I'll be ditching the screen protector and picking up another type later on.

Got mine and got it applied but there is some little bits of fibres around the edges. Anybody else getting that? Had to take it off since it wasn't properly aligned at the corners the first time.

Should I try and take it off again and reapply a third time?

Uh-oh I'm not liking this wave of people having bad experiences with their orders.

My order shipped on monday (placed on friday) and I'm hoping it'll be here tmrw (fingers crossed) although I'm pretty sure it'll be next week.

Actually I have both an order from PYD and Bodyguardz (both for iphone 3g skins) coming in (both shipped on monday). So we'll see whose gets here faster.

@levitron

Hows the coverage of the PYD on the iphone 3g?

That's interesting that the material is different from the BSE skins. I thought all these companies were using the same material. I have a bodyguardz already which I find to be perfect in terms of feel and quality (funny thing is, I haven't had any problems with pinching or sliding my finger across the screen since i put the BG skin on whereas I used to quite a bit with nothing on the screen).

Hows the coverage of the PYD on the iphone 3g?

Very good on mine. The little tabs at the edge of the skin used to cover the corners overlapped by 0.5-1mm or so, I think I may have stretched it a little. I ended up cutting the extra off so it wouldn't overlap. There is a little half-moon of exposed plastic above the camera lens, leading me to think I stretched it a little when applying.

Hmmm...interesting point. I would suggest you take a couple high resolution macro's of the orange peel., and either link them here (as I know John pops in occasionally) or email them directly to him to see.

He's a reasonable man., and if it turns out it isn't your application which caused the result but the product, I'm sure he'd (1) do the right thing, but more importantly (2) work to rectifying the issue.

The solution wasn't provided for me but it tells you how. 1-2 drops of dish soap to 8-10 ounces of water. Then you dip or spray it onto both sides of the shield. When the shield is wet, it's easily adjustable and no fingerprints are left on when you handle it.

Its easy even for the iPod Touch? I would imagine water+soap would ruin the touch screen though. Is the screen still 100% functional?

After it has dried up, you can't re-apply without wrecking it but when it is still wet you can re-apply it.

Again, you won't get any finger prints on it because your fingers will be wet. Try it, it is very easy and simple to apply. The best thing is if you screwed up, just peel it off and reapply even after it dried. Once dip back into soap water, it is as good as new.

I applied the first piece of my full body kit while wearing some surgical gloves. I took them off after that piece and used my fingers. The soapy water solution doesn't stay on the gloves and so the gloves kept on sticking to the piece. Your wet fingers won't stick and will not leave prints.

The only reason I tried it with gloves is because I didn't want to get prints on my phone while I was applying the skin.

Anyone use gloves to apply the skin or how do you avoid getting fingerprints on it?

Here's my review of the skin for PYD on my Touch.

First of all, do not have too much solution on the skin while applying on the touch. Just dip it in the solution, and while your index and thumb are wet, just try to remove the excess solution so that it wet but not dripping wet. I didn't do that initially and when I was done installing it, moisture actually got through the cracks on the Touch and behind the screen. I could see streaks of discoloration behind the screen.

FYI, I put my Touch in a bowl of dry rice to suck out the moisture and a lamp about 6 inchs from the Touch to heat it up, that did the job removing the water.

I've since borrowed a BSE skin from my friend because I couldn't wait for my PYD replacement.

Here's my comparaison. Both skins look very similar in material. I can't tell how each one will turn 2 months from now, but right now, they are nearly identical. The cut for the front screen is almost the same, with the BSE having a skin for the home button while the PYD does not. Doesn't really matter to me. As for the back, this is where the difference is. I've found that the BSE skin fitted better around the corners of my Touch then the PYD skin did. It's really a matter of fraction of millimiters, but I just found that it slightly easier to apply.

As for people noticing ripples, you have to move the skin while it's wet to the perfect position, squeegee out the water, and try not to move it too much from there on. When you try to force to move the thing just a little, without sufficient water between the surface of the Touch and the skin, it can ripple a little. But it's not that serious of a problem, slowly peel it off, dip it and clean it in the solution, start over.

I ordered a full body shield for my iphone 3G and it arrived super fast. I think it arrived in less then 5 business days.

The package included the following shields:
Front (full)
Back (full) - Slight gaps around the corners but wraps around the sides of the phone
2 Front small pieces that cover the chrome bezel top and bottom
Small circle for the home button

The install took me just over an hour as this was my first crack at installing any type of full body shield. The front was pretty straight forward but the back piece took me around 45 minutes to get perfect. The corners were super hard to mold to the shape of the phone but I found the palm technic seem to work the best. After I got the corners molded to the curve of the phone, I then slowly worked on the corners with my index and thumbs to allign each corner correctly....not fun at all so be very patient at this point.
Where I ran into a problem was when I began putting on the 2 front small bezel pieces. The corners that I worked so hard to perfect began to lift because the bezel pieces were wet. A better approach might be to work on the corners after these 2 pieces are installed because all your efforts will be wasted other wise.

So other then my small install incident, I feel this is an awesome product/service and I will definitely consider buying more products from this company. Thanks again RFD

Sorry. This probably is a stupid question. Is the back piece of the shield for n95 separated into two pieces? Eg, one for the battery cover and another for the back? I don't want to reapply everytime I change my sim card.

The answer is probably yes, but I want to confirm before ordering.

Hi

Sorry. This probably is a stupid question. Is the back piece of the shield for n95 separated into two pieces? Eg, one for the battery cover and another for the back? I don't want to reapply everytime I change my sim card.

The answer is probably is yes, but I want to confirm before ordering.
Thanks!

Yes, two piece back.
1 x top
1 x front
1 x part bottom (just around mic)
2 x back

Ordered from BSE. Customer service from PYD sounds awesome so I'm unhappy about going to BSE, but it's $8 vs. $13 even with the discount code.

I don't see the N95-4 Skin for them though..

I applied this thing on my ipod touch (front and back) and it was not that hard to apply.

However, I don't know how this happened, but now the is a little dent / tick on the front of my screen, its an actual indent on the shield. Not only that, but does anyone else have a problem with white/yellow/orange residue leftover on the edges/corners? they're like whitish streaks that wont go away! so annoying..

also, theres bubbles all around the edges.. but whatever, i asked for a replacement to try again.. i hope removing it wont be so hard lol

good product nonetheless though! definately protects ur device! :D

hmm how is the feeling of this material? Is i the same feeling as the BSE(Orange peel/bumpy effect)

Thinking of getting it for the iphone but I had the BSE on some products before and although its great I wouldn't like the feeling when using the touch screen.

Apparently there is another one called PhantomSkinz which doesn't have that problem. but they are $25 but they have a coupon for 20% off and free shipping. "canada20" Only thing is that you hardly hear anything about them.

Isn't there any iphone 3G protectors that covers the front and back but uses the same material as those regular crystal screen protectors?

Don't put too many water...
The way I installed it was to drip it into a bowl of soapy water...
There was really too much water on it...
I had problem with the front part...

hi all, first time buying this, although have bought a skin from invisible shields but don't think they offer LCD protection for my dell vostro.

Anyways, Q is if it's pretty easy to put this on a lcd screen w/ damage or problems?
Has anyone done it with this product......I know someone a while back posted photos of how they applied it.

Thanks :)

Short of scratching the screen with a razr as you were prying the edge off the screen...HOW IN TARNATION...did you permanently damage it???? It's a slighly gluey substance? I find this hard to believe? (c'mon...did you scratch it with something else?) Err....or..um...you mean the excess of water caused water damage on the screen? Ewwww...yeah that's a hard one. You really need to squeegy as much liquid as possible after you've dipped it.

I received my N95 8GB screen from Protech but I'm a bit scared to install it now because of some horror stories. Since the screen is not flat with the casing on the N95, water CAN get in and damage your screen. :\

Is there a way to install it without water at all?

Ordered one from protech for my bro, bodyguardz for me, phantomskinz for my dad for all our iphone 3gs. The phantomskinz hasn't arrived yet so I can't say anything about it.

However, there is definetly a quality difference between protech and bodyguardz. The bodyguardz front cover is much easier to slide you finger across with. The protech has a "rougher" feeling and your finger doesn't slide as easy. In terms of coverage I'd say they are both equal.

Another difference is the protech skin comes with 2 seperate pieces for the top and bottom (the bodyguardz was one for the whole back). The two seperate pieces weren't too hard to install and I'd say they make applying the skin around the corner an easier task.

Bodyguardz warranty is really good also. I've ordered two replacements so far and wasn't hassled for them at all (it's actually a self order thing, no operators but $5 xtra per replacement).

I'd go with bodyguardz. A little extra but much better quality.

If you can go a day or so without using the n95 you can do it with minimal amounts of water and simply leaving the phone completely powered off (no battery) until the water evaporates. The small amount of water that may get in there shouldn't do any damage unless you actually turn the phone on while it's wet.

Or just use a normal screen protector, shouldn't make a huge difference and it's much easier to install.

i used lots of watter installing it soaked the front piece entirely in water, slid it on potitioned it quick before it started sticking

The pats dried it and removed some bubbles. I still have 2 tiny ones on screen surface but whatever. The hardest part was having equal amount of skin off the sides and after leaving it for about 30 minutes I was able to wrap sides around edges and get them to stick

It is a great shield and has really taken effect now after handling it the next day. I got all sorts of water over the front keypad and was worried but it al worked out

It arrived in the mail last week but I haven't applied it yet. My dad is coming to visit this weekend and the plan is to put it on his iphone.

However, I've taken a good long look at it. From what I can tell, the coverage is not going to be as good as either of the other two. Although it is a much simpler design and should be easier to apply (due to the sides being "squared off"), it won't be able to cover the chrome parts at all on the top left and right atleast.

The front shield also seems shorter than the others (hard to tell 'till i actually put it on though). The feel of the skin doesn't seem too bad though, definitely doesn't have that "rough" feeling like the protech.

At this point, the bodyguardz is not only the best deal (with 2 sets included in the package and the warranty), it's the best quality.

For those who are wondering whether this is a good buy or not, I have used their product for over one year now and haven't really had any problems with it at all except once. I had the covers on my phone for two months and the top started to peel off my phone. I contacted them and they sent me a new cover within a weeks time.

They keep their word when it comes to warranty that's for sure and I will use them again in the future when I get a new phone. It works very well and saved me from quite a few ugly scratches ;)

^^

There are two possibilities wrt to your 'dust' problems.

1- You are just carrying yours around in far too dirty environments., I ALWASY have mine in a lycra baggie (sunglasses variety). I have minimal dust problems.
2- You are having some trouble perfectly depressing the edges of the pieces at their edges, thereby causing a slight portion remaining free and sticky to attract any particles in the atmostphere. I find I've had that occur on my initial ones., and the particular edges which are especially difficult to properly affix.

Hope that helps.

Just like to say I got my order today, which was placed on the 6th, to Toronto.

Great product, identical to the much pricier Invisible Shields that I have on my old W810 and Nano 3G.

I've already gone ahead and placed more orders through Protech for my parents' cell phones. My dad was putting on a store-bought screen protector, which ended up having tons of air bubbles and just looked horrible. The beauty of using the liquid to place it on, is (1) that it lets you manipulate the shield any which way, and that (2) there are no air bubbles!

Thanks for the code, and the website, OP.

I just installed mine for the iphone. It took about 45 minutes but it looks great! Very pleased. Thanks OP!

The back piece for the iphone was in three pieces. One large piece with funky looking corners that actually ends up fitting pretty good (hard to get to stick down though). Then there are two very small thin pieces that are just meant to cover the nice silver trim on the bottom and the top. I would think the touch skin is similar but can't confirm

are you serious? i have the n-95 8gb as well. it is freaking awesome. you have to completely submerge the product in water then place it on. the front panel is a little difficult.
YOU MUST LET IT DRY for you to place the edges down. otherwise it will not work.

just wanted to say that John @ protech is great with customer service. I had trouble applying the coupon when checking out via paypal; a couple of emails and he straightened it all out. I also had a brain-fart and ordered the wrong cover (my fault); another email and he sent out the correct one for me - he didn't wait for me to return the other first. Great service, highly recommended.

As for the product... I bought mine for the iPhone, the full body cover. After having successfully applied it, I'd recommend only getting the front skin, and buying an alternative case for the back (like the matt II product or a silicone shell). While the protech product works as promised, the amount of effort required to apply it to the curved surfaces of the back (at least 20-30 minutes of intense work) simply isn't worth it, and you still end up with tiny 'pinches' of material. The simple flat front piece doesn't take any effort to apply, by comparison.

EGAD!!!!!!!! READ THE MANUAL DUDE!!!!! Everything must be off., You must leave the product off for a good 24/30+hours to ensure best application standards.

....While the protech product works as promised, the amount of effort required to apply it to the curved surfaces of the back (at least 20-30 minutes of intense work) simply isn't worth it, and you still end up with tiny 'pinches' of material.....

The application process is quite honestly THEE MOST DEMANDING and user-NON-friendly experience I admit. However, with experience these go on perfectly (well..okay, NEAR perfectly-Even I struggle sometimes).

I too got those pinches and was speaking to John about some mods. My solution was to take an exacto Blade and at a near flat angle slit them away. There is too much material in that section and even the slightest slit of 1-3mm diameter is just what is needed to release the stress on the constricted material and eliminate anymore pinching up.

Imagine that crack. And then imagine taking a whole puncher right at the end of it. Kind like what a neighbourhood dead-end (round-about) looks like when you are in an airplane looking down at the street layout with houses around it.

In my experience, the n95 was thee hardest to apply (back part). The iphone (not sure if I was lucky, or just experience kicking ing) was surprisingly VERY easy.

One trick which isn't immediately obvious, is that if you are applying over curves, and the material is too wet resulting in its absolute REFUSAL to stick, LEAVE IT for a good minute or longer (as necessary), work on another part of the shield, then revisit. You'll find the time allowed excess fluid to evaporate-allowing the stickiness to spurt up once more.

Review for HTC Touch Screen shield:

Fit: Poor. There are gaps on each side.

Installation: Medium. Disconcerting to get water on your device; have a towel close-by. Next to impossible to prevent air bubbles and dust.

I found out that on most designs the template is made from a dummy phone. If you can, please take an Uber macro pic (top-view) and fire it off to John, so he can work on improving the fit. I'm sure he'll fire off a replacement if there's indeed significant margins from his demo's (assuming it was done off such) and the real device.

Is this your first application? Believe me when I say, I shared your opinions 100% on my first 2..3...4 applications. I tell you now, 100%. I have no air bubbles, deficiencies on applications. Also, air bubbles, AND water bubbles will ?transpirate/evaporate? through the film in 2-3-4 days tops. I absolutely doubted it...and John insisted it would happen. Lo and behold it did LOLz. Guess he knows his sh|t.

About water...yah...believe me I totally feel your way. You should hunt down this video of this guy applying a full shield to his iphone. He LITERALLY DRENCHES his phone in water spray, and it still worked. He clearly lucked out-but talked like it 'was perfectly fine, don't worry bout it'. I can't believe it. LOL.

I recently bought a Gen4 Ipod Nano, with curved edges on the front and back. It was a hassle to get them to stick on the edges, so what I did was leave them alone for about 2-2.5 hours for the adhesive to dry a bit, then applied light pressure, and they stuck down and have stayed down perfectly since.

i have bought the invisible shield for 3 of my products. they are all resistant to scratches, but pick up finger prints like crazy.. arguably messier looking than a few scratches here and there.

do the competitors use the same finger-print unfriendly material?

whoa that's far too long...I'm surprised there was any liquid left to even adhere. Usually 5-10mins is more than enough to do what you waited 2-2.5 to do lol.

Curves are definately NOT for the beginners to apply. Unless you just have some crazy knack for the subtleties of this application process.

... pick up finger prints like crazy.....
You're just a grease-ball..

No, but in all seriousness, people are just different physiologically. Some people lack any secretion glands in their fingers, cheeks, and ears. Others are greasemonkeys. It's obvious which you are  (no offence :o ).

If there's an alternative proposed cause-I'd be very keen to hear it. If anybody has a solution, I'd be even more keen to hear that.

I just did my N95 full body shield. The easiest way to deal with the curves?

PLASTIC WRAP!

Do the water and the flat sections then place the phone flat side down on plastic wrap and wrap it up!

Worked great!

Also, I still have an extra screen protector for the N95 if anyone wants it at cost.

I'm sorry what did you say? I was looking at your avatar. :|

ERIKAAMORRIS, while ingenius in concept...I'd be concerned with causing a sauna effect. The shield is permeable to air and water. The Saran may not be. Where there would be a need for water to evaporate and air from escaping the bubbles, putting the saran wrap would drastically hinder water evaporation and air escape.

I personally would focus on the aforementioned methods. This one imho is a big personal choice. Really all you need is a few minutes 5-10, and the shield will become sticky enough to stick after a slap down.

I'm getting used to it, but it's still not as slippery as the OEM protector.

Did you find the Invisibleshield protector slipperier?

I think they are similar, but if anything Invisibleshield a bit slipperier. I have an IS on my digital camera and I'm just comparing them now. Neither as slippery as OEM.

Has anyone tried these on a camera? I was thinking of getting the one for the G10.

I got one of the Optex ones from Henry's that you have to put. It lasted about 20 minutes on my camera and then an edge came up and 3/4 of it was not stuck on anymore. My package still has a couple in it but because it went on dry you had to get it exactly right the first time!

The BSE I had on my ipod before I had to RMA the ipod it was great! And I am so glad I have one on my SE w810 so my keys don't scratch it!

I recently purchased a gps device for the vehicle. I was in a rush to use it, and since the stupid thing didn't come with a clear one from scratch, I quickly cut to size a plain sheet I had. Quickly and LIGHTLY sprayed it with a mist, and applied. Except for one huge bubble which caught me off guard (4mm square lol) It won't go away. No idea why. Maybe because I never started using it immediately and then left the gps in the car -10-20C which isn't conducive to evaporation LOLz.

Other than the bubble it applied and has remained applied quite well, but I did have to wet it. It's the nature of the tackiness activation.

Give it a few minutes to dry out, the press down and hold for a few minutes. I use rubber bands sometimes. The wide styles.

Thanks for the great review - I'll definitely pick one up, but I'm toying between a screen-only protector and a rubber skin, or the full-body. My main concern would be the fact I tend to.... drop things. The rubber would provide some minor protection from that, while I would imagine the shield would just protect it from scratches....

Because of this thread, i bought one for my BB 8900 and put it on a few hours ago. ^ Well...the instructions do call for a soap mixture. I've personally found that a pure watery one doesn't work.

You need the mild soap mixture to allow for the maneuvering into place (the soapy liquid affords you that). If it's just water, it just sticks. There's no sliding possible.

Just read the instructions. lol. It's in there.

in the instructions you get on how to apply the protector. it tells you to use a small drop of soap. so i'm sure the softsoap will be perfect.

however, i've applied this to all of my families phones (4 - 2 iphones, 1 n95 and 1 BB) and i just used water. no soap at all. so you may not even need it. BUT as some posters alluded too, the soap helps for maneuverability, so it may be easier just to add it. i guess just add it, it doesn't hurt. the instructions are included.

YMMV

best skin is probably just as good. but the thing that it lacks is a LIFETIME WARRANTY, as i said in a previous post.
i already got a couple of replacements for it. so this is definitely the best buy

Anyone can compare texture of latest Invisible Shield with latest ProTech?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm waiting for my 5800 NAM and ordered a ProTech. However, when I compared the ProTech on my N95 and the Invisible Shield on my old w810i I sold to a friend, I noticed the Invisible Shield was smoother.

Now I'm reconsidering my ProTech purchase... especially since the 5800 is all touchscreen. :\

Any feedback?

Finally applied it on my blackberry, very satisfied with the screen protector.

Got some soap residue behind the protector.

Does anyone know that will residue will go away? I only had it on for an hour or so.

Unfortunately the soap residue is a ymmv if it'll completely go away, depending on how thick it is. Water will evaporate. If you evaporate soap...you're stuck with the soap.

I find mixing your solution very crucial. YOu have to avoid any churning and bubbling of the soap ingredient. When you're applying it you need to ensure minimal churning as well. Squeegeing the piece dry should also be done carefull on the underside before you apply so that you have just enough liquid to provide the sliding around aspect, but not too much to overwhelm any electronics with the unavoidable run-off (WHICH I painstakingly take care to suck up by surface absorption with a kleenex mind you).

Cheers,

I just ordered a full body shield for my new N95 8GB. I've done one full body installation with Invisible Shield but that was with my wife's camera.

Does anyone know how many pieces came with this installation kit?

Any difficult areas to look out for on this phone?

n95 8gb is a definate toughie. Read about my experience therewith earlier on in this thread.

Wish you all the best.

3 pieces. Front x1., back battery plate, back permanent body which loops around and down each side all the way to the bottom. Hugest LOTS of curves...PITA....but I think if I know NOW what I didn't then about how to successfully work with curves...it would've went FAR easier.

IE: If there are any curves that aren't sticking....give it a couple minutes, work on another portion, then revisit. The time will allow the excess liquid to evaporate thereby allowing you to (once revisited) Succeede in getting the piece to stick down. Woohooo!!!! That's HUGE...as I would FIGHT with it while it not sticking hehe.

^ lol...shame, if I was in GTA I'd help., but I'm not...so I can't. Honestly it's quite straightforward.

To repeat myself: you need to apply it wet. Whether you make yourself a little 10cc bowl of liquid or a spray bottle is your perogative.

use any hard rubbery edge or soft plasticy surface (kitchen plastic spatula ex.) to squeegee out the liquid.

watching some youtube videos should be FAR more than anything you'll need. I applied about 5 of them before watching a single video..and I think I did quite well.

Agreed ... I mentioned that because BSE has the full skin with more coverage for just around $10-12 shipped without the copoun VS PYS has skin with less coverage for around $15-20 AFTER applying the copoun.

I ordered a PYD protector on the 9th and received the shipment (or envelope rather) on the 14th of April (keep in mind, the long weekend).

So with that said, the shipping is very fast.

I have finally applied it to my Bold and noticed a few air bubbles, the instructions and from what I was reading from this topic states it will go away, I will update these bubbles in a day or two, hopefully they will automatically go away as pushing these bubbles with my CC is not helping so I'll just let it do it's own thing.

I plan to turn it on tomorrow morning, so it'll have roughly 14 hours of standby time.

Ouch...well as long as you don't do it again it will work out yes? Anytime you have a shield/cover/guard on an object you have to take caution not to apply undue stress so as to prematurely cause it to separate. Mind you, if properly applied I see it really difficult how you could've caused the shield to separate. My guess is you had a loose tab that wasn't properly pressed and secure down which got caught and progressively loosened and loosened completely.

...I have finally applied it to my Bold and noticed a few air bubbles...
I used to get those when I did my first few. I just applied a full body to 3G iPhone and impressively, I didn't have a single bubble. I hold the shield up with one hand and with index and thumb of the other finger, I carefully squeege the shield so there's minimal liquid and minimal disturbed liquid that would turn into a bubble or sudz or what not (which tend to not want to evaporate as a clean water bubble does ;) ).

Anyway, no bubbles. What I did have was a tad amount of liquid (yes even with the squeegeeing lol, I did it in record time so was cutting a few corners in the process ) trapped inside. From experience, I knew it wasn't a big dealie and today everything is nice and tightly installed.

Update for everyone, every air bubble has disappeared...
Lol...Glad to hear it!

^ lol..the Bold screen is glass or some hard plastic composite. The film is...a film. I guess to me it's pretty darn obvious that the 'look and feel' between the two materials is going to be substantially?

I have one of those microfibre cloths in the house which I use to wipe it down whenever the finger/grease ball marks get too much.

Um...the Bold isn't a touch screen...why're you touching it?? are you one of those people who fondles your computer LCD monitor?

Just as a geeky aside..the liquid and air bubbles under the skin should disappear quicker if you put the recently protected device in a shoebox with a couple of those dry silica packets you get with new electronics etc. Conversely if you leave it in a humid room it'll take longer.

bubble.tea
Apr 18th, 2009, 03:53 PM

That's pretty smart actually. Those packets are infact 'dehumidifiers'. Good advice if you're in a particularly humid region...or actually now that we're headed into summer. When the heat-waves kick in, it'll definately take a lot longer.

Well.. they are desiccants if you want to be precise.

I've used the best skins ever skins, the zagg skins and the protechyourdevice skins and my opinion is that the pyd skins are the least tacky feeling under your fingers. They are what I recommend to friends now for touch screen devices (even for scroll wheel ipods, the lesser tackiness is welcome).

Perhaps it may have been me but I doubt it, I squeegee out all the water and after about 5 mins firmly pressed all the sides to ensure everything was sticking properly and it wasn't until a few days later where I noticed a small portion at the top was peeling off (this might be too big a word as it isn't really peeling off, just a small portion not sticking) and I was worried it'll eventually dry the rest of the sticker from that opening hence my decision to use my warranty.

the lifetime replacement policies sound good, but i've owned a skin from both zagg and bse...i've replaced the actual device before the skin started to show any damage, so i really don't think that 20 bucks for a skin with the lifetime replacement is worth it, bse at less than 10 per skin is more worth it, since if you need to replace it just order another one

the lifetime replacement policies sound good, but i've owned a skin from both zagg and bse...i've replaced the actual device before the skin started to show any damage, so i really don't think that 20 bucks for a skin with the lifetime replacement is worth it, bse at less than 10 per skin is more worth it, since if you need to replace it just order another one

PYD isn't $20.

It's $12.99 ;).

I stay away from the zagg bottle. I hate it-mainly because I can't trust their consistency.

I prefer to mix up my own bowl. I like mine a tad extra slimy (but no bubbles, GENTLE stirring is required to avoid them) to facilitate improved slide-around-edness :D.

Don't just say "yes" but have proof. I have talked to a few friends and they swear by the Pac Mall ones that are hard, cheap plastic that scratch easily. The ones they get are the ones you can get from DealExtreme and FocalPrice. Once I show them these type of protectors they eat their words.

Post a link to the $5 covers so we can all benefit if they are the same quality.

You were commenting on the PSP skin before and now you throw a iPhone 3G example back in the reply.

Let me work some math and you tell me if I'm wrong.

BSE (free shipping if you order 3 or more items):
PSP total body = $9.99 + $2.25 shipping = $12.24
iPhone 3G total body = $7.99 + $2.25 shipping = $10.24

PYD (free shipping entire order):
PSP total body = $19.99 - 50% + $0 shipping = $10.00
iPhone 3G total body = $19.99 - 50% + $0 shipping = $10.00

I can not find anywhere on the BSE site that they offer a lifetime warranty while PYD does. So to me and in my opinion I prefer PYD.

BSE is pretty much the same skin as Zagg/Invisible Shield. I've ordered from Zagg before (with a coupon) and can confirm this (so can others, just google around). Zagg is extremely overpriced and also has a faint orange/yellow look to it. Zagg includes a squeegee and a spray tube, but it's still 3-5 times the price of BSE. I actually haven't tried protechyourdevice, but I wouldn't be surprised if the material is similar.

While lifetime guarantee is great, personally I think it's excellent marketing. My BSE last forever, look great, and I don't even bother taking it off when selling the electronic item.

I couldn't resist so I got the G1 anyway. It's not actually that bad. I haven't applied it yet, but the only difference is the circular buttons versus rectangular. Still covers nicely it seems.

Interesting predicament.

If you've ever watched 'How it's Made' you'll know that plastics do bond simply by pressure. If there's enough pressure they will become ONE solid sheet.

The slight pressure attributable from your upper and lower clamshell is an interesting one. Shouldn't there be 'divets' or rubber 'grommet's that allow the top and bottom clamshell to have a hairs distance between them so they're not flush?

Are your grommets missing?

whoa.. First off., wicked photos!!!

Looks like you had a very good result in installation.

Can you take a pic of the front face buttons? I wanted to see how nicely the template fits our Rogers Dream. The G1 from the US I think has round base buttons where ours are square based? That's the only discrepancy, but it's so shallow a raised surface, I didn't think it would hardly affect.

I'm impressed how PYD managed to cut out those circles to dissipate tension focusing which in the early models resulted in a pinched circle which wouldn't stick down very well.

You definately did a good job applying it.

It took a LONG fricking while to get the corners down on the back and i didn't even bother putting on the side and the front speaker cover b/c they didn't turn out as well as the back due too a lot of bulging out. And honestly the SIDE is the MOST hardest thing to put on.. after holding it down for atleast 15 min it still managed to pop back off the phone so i just put it back on the sticker base and didn't use it

im off to work now, but once i get home ill take a pic of the facebuttons...
although i didn't apply it onto the phone itself b/c i thought it would look weird, ill over lay it anyways to see how they fit for show just in case ppl are wondering

they look so good that i dont want to apply them again :P

there is only one strip of rubber grommet at the bottom, so there is a gap at the numbers section, but it's the arrows keys area that gets stick together, I think the double layer of skin is too thick for the tiny gap

do not forget the reality that this is the way to apply this.

with this in mind, you have to be SUPER careful. I personally do drench the sheets, but I do squeegee them till there's minimal run-off BEFORE I apply it. I'm UBER careful, and paranoid, so the LEAST amount of liquid I am comfortable with working.

This is why I like my liquid a littlemore soapy (slimy) than stock solutions.

I've done a number of installs and I've never damaged any device yet...but don't kid yourself, if you don't respect the process, you WILL mess up your device.

You do realize you're supposed to put this on in a clean environment yes? :(.

If it's that bad, you may as well try to peel it off (may very well warp your film though). If you can tough it out, keep it as is. Otherwise, shell out another couple bucks and buy another set. This time...don't do it so recklessly . Either that, or pay someone to do it properly for you. If done properly., it's a thing of beauty.:)

I took some pics and sent them back to see if another template could be done up. I got it (not yet applied) but looks like it's been adjusted great., so everyones gonna get the new one I guess.

Not the same material. The Source one is a hard plastic that uses an electro-static charge to hold it in place and will show scratches. PYD is a thicker, softer material that will not show scratches and comes with a lifetime warranty if it does.

Just applied a warranty replacement for my buddies BB. Came back from overseas and 18months later...this thing looked like it withstood a direct bomb attack hehe. Amazingly the BB looks still 8.5/9/10.

PYD is using a new material these days...or were they just testing it out (don't quote me :o ). Anyway, it definately appears to have minimized the orange peel quite substantially. Will have to see how it holds up to their original material for resistance.

I'm getting better and better at applying this stuff mang. Such a relief when your device is fully protected and you can not worry about a small scratch here or there LOL...AND it didn't take you an HOUR of fighting with a film to stick to a curved surface because you didn't know that all you had to do was leave it for 15mins then come back and push down once for it to stick LOL.

Last day for the 40% coupon!

b.t, or other phone experts, is the (European?) LG Secret KF750 the same as Rogers Secret TU-750? Websites show that the dimension are different, but don't know if that's a fact.

bubble.tea

Can't say for sure.

I have seen the Europeeeeean version of this phone, and at first glance the only difference is the cylindrical roller versus what the TU720 has.

Just installed a V9 full for my buyer. Looks good. Small piece needs tweaking so will send a photo to the manufacturer so they correct the template. Otherwise., surprisingly well installed.

There is some orange peel...SOME., IF anally considered. My main problem is being a grease ball :D., I'm constantly finding myself having to pull out a microfibre cloth and wiping down the blasted thing so it's clean all over again lol. My skin is just oozing with olive oil ...

I'm finding that the microfibre cloth doesn't slide as smoothly on the PYD shield as it did on the bare screen before I applied the shield - do you wet the cloth at all before cleaning the screen?

bubble.tea
Nov 14th, 2009, 11:39 AM
There certainly is a difference in surfaces of a piece of glass or whatever the original is, to the surface of the shield.

Importantly it doesn't affect performance/responsiveness at all.

In terms of cleaning, I just use a damp towel and ensure I'm locked, then wipe away. Comes out feeling clean as a whistle.

They all have it to some extent. BSE/ZAGG/PYD., it's inherent in the material they are using.

I heard somewher PYD is experimenting with a clearer (less OrangePeel) material., but it's just dabbling lol.

Dang just missed out on the November deal but an hour. I need a coupon. Just got a new phone.

Is it possible to request for a template for the HP TX2500 line of pen/touch tablet pcs to be done?

The laptop is the most popular tablet pc for the last year now and I am sure many people are interested in this (even just by making a post on tabletpcreview). http://www.tabletpcreview.com/

The chassis hasn't changed much since TX1000. So it it is compatible with TX2000 and the newer multitouch as well (TX2).

DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought that was a PYD shield. You REALLY should've put that in BOLD at the beginning.

I have a feeling that if you are more dirty, there will inevitably be some absorbance.

Who the heck keeps a phone that long anyway?. Impressive!!!

The good thing with PYD is there is a lifetime guarantee. If it ever discolours, send it back.

Any updates on the December 2009 code?

What a sexy phone!

Template is so detailed., I really like it. Screen I fudged at first, but peeled off and after properly wetting it and smoothening out the bubbles, reapplied it and it's flat and clear as ev4r!!!

vERRRy Happy with the results!

In essence-yes., mix and submerge., finger-squeegee to leave as little liquid as possible and apply CAREFULLY immediately (by capillary action) soaking up the run-off to avoid excessive drainage into the device.

I have done this mmmmmmmmmmany times...and find this the absolutely best way.

Okay

So I ordered a full body shield for the ipod touch and it arrived within a week or so.

Anyways, the material seems to be super sturdy and tough. But the problem is putting it on your device. I gotta say it is super hard to get the cover aligned on the device properly with no fingerprints, or dust stuck undeneath.

This is because it asks you to put "water" (I know wtf?) on your cover and on the device itself (be careful if ur device is not so water resistant :!: )...
But in the end, after so much pain in the butt, I managed to get it properly aligned with minimal or no dust particles.

Then comes the other problem. My Ipod touch looks so weird now, and there is all these small tiny grooves on the cover material itself. I just personally do not like the way my iPod looks and feels after I applied the full body shield.

I might be thinking of just removing this stupid piece of crap and perform some reliability tests on it... cutting, boiling, key scratching... lol

:!::!::!:
I would like to note that this is NOT my first time applying a full body shield. I have done it previously using Apple full body shield (twice) and it worked like a charm. Hey! at least you do not need water for the apple one. :D

There's.. an Apple full body shield similar to the InvisibleShield, BSE and this PTYD? All of these require water and a dab of dish soap to apply. If you read the instructions on any of these, waiting about 3 days gives you much better results. The ridges start to disappear.. clarity improves.. etc.

The first time I put on one of these it was a royal PITA as well. Rest assured this is en eliteist kinda accessory for gadgets. You really need time, patience, and a clean working environment that is well lit.

The iTouch isn't one of the easier ones to install either. If it's like the iPhone (with the curved convex back) I can only imagine what it was like for you LOL.

I should take a video one of these days to show how I do it.

I think I tried distilled once upon a time. Didn't notice any difference. I've been using tap (filtered) and I'm happy with it.

Hmmm what a minute...this supposed to be 'military grade' material but you were able to slit it with an exacto knife?

Regardless, I don't mind, I'll be ordering one for my N95-4 and 3GS :)
Small question, does the PYD have the tiny circle for the home button like the Zagg? Not a deal breaker if it doesn't, but just wondering...

lol, it's not like that.

I think it's scratch-proof if you don't break the surface? poking it? Although some pics show it poking the surface...but I think it's a gimmick. Nail., Fork prong yeah it'll not penetrate. But use a 25G needle...I think it'll cut.

what hole? iPHone? Yes it does. I forget how the n95 looked.

I didn't take a pic of my other applications at this stage., but this is good enough. I'm quite meticulous with the corners, and have found the only way I can successfully get perfect corners is to slap on my wide rubber bands and leave it over night. Otherwise, I get the pinch or fold-up :(. Anybody know any better way of doing this?

iPHone, Magic/Dream, n95..I have to do it for all those-otherwise it raises in the corners which leads to premature catching and lint-accumulation. My rubber-band solution seems to work optimally.

I actually have wide rubber bands (about twice as wide) that I keep around now for this specific purpose.

^

which phone? which skin?

If it's just a screen, I'll do it.

If it's a full body one. To put those on properly and perfectly you need at least 25-40mins. You're saying someones time is worth $2/40mins??:D
