Paris to Rome - How?

Hi,

I am looking to go from Paris to Rome. What is the best way? The best cost effective way?

I am looking to fly from vancouver to Paris which is a decent cost. Flying from Rome to Vancouver is expensive, so I might want a return trip from Rome to Paris before flying back to Vancouver.

There are a good number of discount airlines throughout Europe, but I'd suggest taking the train. You could drive there (takes ~14 hours), but I really doubt you want to deal with driving around Rome.

What's the typical roundtrip airfare? I'd rather not drive... possibly train. Any links are names to arlines/trains?

To each they're own, but I refuse spending 2+hrs bus'ing it to/from various airports via Ryanair etc....

Paris to Rome...i'm guessing direct flights by airfrance, alitalia; not sure if the discount airlines fly that route direct

Train...again, dont think there's a direct train between the 2 cities

BUT, you can connect via geneva, switzerland

Paris - Geneva on TGV
Geneva - Rome (either via Milan on express trains, or night train)

skyscanner.net for the cheapest flights in Europe. Your probably looking at 75-100 euros each way. The train would probably cost around 130 or 140 euros round trip.

The train is the best way, travel by night and save your self a night at a hostel. Fastest way is to switch trains in Torino.

Use oebb.at or bahn.de for trains schedules.

Another nice thing about the train is that you tend to meet other people and see more. (not so much overnight though)
