I skimmed through the official government job thread but didn't see any post regarding this...

The interview requires the candidate to show up with letters of reference which "...must attest to the Personal Suitability - Reliability as indicated on the statement of merit." Things like initiative, effective communication, etc. Then, "the selection committee will be communicating with the reference to confirm the information."

I was wondering about the confirming part: does anyone know, typically with the federal government, if it will be a rather brief conversation to verify the facts, or a somewhat lengthy discussion that require detailed examples from the references? I'm concern because although I have a wonderful relationship with my former employer/supervisors, their spoken and written English are not great (and not because they are Francophone). I am actually drafting the reference letters myself and have them read it over for approval then sign.
