Just curious, how everyone goes about handling their job search when they got several different job offers and/or interviews on the go - whether its interviews, future short term jobs, serious or light inquiries, etc.

Say you have an interview, and they say they will get back to you next week or shortly after and/or they arent looking to hire for at least a few weeks. How do YOU go about handling it? Are you the type who will sit and wait to hear back from your most anticipated job offer until you move onto the next? Or do you keep looking and going to interviews, even when you already have been talking/seeing several people.

Im the 2nd. I never sit around and wait for someone to get back. Unless its a job that I really want then I can wait a bit. But I pretty much take it as a "first come first serve", pretty much whomever offers me a job first I take it. So just because I may have met up with so and so earlier in the week and he said he would get back to me next week...doesnt mean there is a gaurentee that I will still be avail to accept his job when he does call back (if he does offer one). Just an example.

I guess I do a combination of the two. I wait if it is a short timeframe and it is a job I am really interested, but most of the time, I keep looking out for jobs which would be just as good. I also keep my contacts up to date on what I am up to - just in case I need a job quickly - networking really pays off in a scenario where something happens and you need a job within a week.

One should always be on the look out for a chance to move to a better position. This could be within the same company or other companies. This past summer I had to decide between a chance at a upward move within my current company or a diagonal move at a competitor. I believed that the upward position was mine, so after three interviews I had to withdraw from the competition as they needed an immediate answer.

Always be on the lookout until you have atleast one offer...

When you do get an offer and accept it; Think.... is the offer everything you want it to be. Does is pay enough to make you happy, is it located in the city you want to be. If not then decide if you would be willing to piss off this company in case you get a offer with the things you prefer (i.e. saying goodbye even though you have signed an offer)... If the answer is 'yes', then still keep looking. Else, you have a job and its time to go on a long road-trip before work starts.... :)
