Hi, I want to start running in the mornings when I get up. Is it best to do it before or after breakfast? If after breakfast, how long should I wait before running?

depends. are u trying to lose weight or gain?

if u want to lose go after, wait 30 minutes.
if you want to gain go before, it will help you build a massive appetite.

If you are trying to gain weight and run before breakfast, won't the muscles start using protein for energy and metabolism will kick in??

for me.... if you're running less than 10k or 1hr, whatever is more... u don't really need to eat breakfast.

Pretty funny and it might be true to a certain extent.

I prefer to fuel up before I'm out the door. Otherwise, I'll just be thinking about food during the entire run instead of focusing on the workout.

If I'm planning to run in the morning, I'll have breakfast an hour or two before heading out. Just something simple, like oatmeal or toast. Without eating, I just won't have the energy to finish my workout properly.

Most people don't have that much time to kill while waiting for breakfast to digest (which is why I usually run in the afternoon/evening), so you can try to shorten the wait time by experimenting with different types of food or energy drinks. Carbs are generally easier to digest than protein/fat.

I eat before and after. You need energy as fuel to run and you need energy after to replenish.

i don't know if this is correct scientifically, but i heard that if you run right when you get up your body is low on carbs from fasting overnight and you use fat. while if you eat and then run you use the carbs that you just ate and burn less fat.

I like running on an empty stomach so I usually go before breakfast.

I can't run after eating. It'd just come back up. Even before my half marathons i only have a banana.

neither, it's never a good idea to run right after you wake up. during the night when you sleep, your spine absorbs spinal fluid (that's why you're taller in the morning than when you go to bed) and it takes about 60 to 90 minutes for the majority of the fluid to flow out of your spinal discs. Jogging in the morning is a big risk factor in ruptured spinal discs.

i would suggest waiting at least 90 minutes after waking before thinking about doing any type of exercise. if it takes more than 90 minutes for you to wake up and eat breakfast, then i think you have your answer.

Wait until you have a bowel movement.

Running before makes me run faster, unless I have the Bombay runs.

I've tried running on an empty stomach in the morning but I find that I won't have enough energy to finish the run like i normally do when I run at night after 8 or 9pm. My runs are 8k according to Google Maps.

It's doesn't matter. The most important thing is running. Don't find yourself an excuse.

I like to go running after I come home from work and take a dump. I find after poo-ing, i get less chance of feeling "full", getting cramps, etc.

I dont know why but its just personal preference. I feel like I have a better workout if I go after I poo :)

So maybe eat something, poo, and then go.
