Clearing your own package through customs (After seller shipped by UPS ground)

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this? i bought a set of light stands from the states (link below)... and the seller shipped ups ground, i have no clue what he declared as the value but I'd like to clear it through customs to avoid brokerage. The depot is in sauga i think, has anyone ever done this and what did you do?

FYI, you will pay about $24 for everything at the door if the seller values it at the correct $32US.

I don't know how much you will save by clearing it yourself, but you will at least still have to pay the taxes.

yea..its not too bad, i'm just worrying the guy declared his inflated value of "over $300+" ....

The one time I had that happen UPS was pretty good about fixing it. I think I received a cheque in a couple of days.

Things might have changed since the court decision on GST adjustments though, but they should at least be able to adjust their brokerage.

Just let UPS know you intend to clear the shipment yourself.

Then,

You show up at their international counter.
They give you the required documents to take to the customs office.
At the customs office you pay whatever is required.
They stamp the documents as proof the shipment can be released.
You present the documents and they give you your package.
