I'm am irate right now! I bought a mastercraft maximum 3/8D torque wrench good up to 250 INCH Lbs over a year ago. Even dumber, I just realized it's inch lbs and not ft lbs. I need 80ft lbs for my tires.
I set the thing to 30 and then to 70lbs and tried it out on a wheel lug nut. I must have put 100lbs of myself on it and nothing and the lug was still getting tightned even at 30 inch lbs. What the heck!
Looks like I bought it broken since day one and didn't use it until now. Customer service is going to think I broke it. LOL!

It should have a lifetime warranty but yes their torque wrenches are junk. I borrowed my friend's to do an intake job it worked for the intake job. We took it out again and bam it stopped clicking.

I wouldn't worry, Canadian Tire is pretty easy going IMO with their Lifetime Warranty... I've actually exchanged several Phillips screw drivers that the blades have worn down on, I've never had a single problem/had to justify the situation.
Like I said, I wouldn't worry.

I can't quite tell from your wording, but were your trying to loosen the nuts with the torque wrench?

I have the 1/2" mastercraft max torque wrench. It has jammed on me twice in the past and I had it replaced twice without a problem. Just went to customer service, told them I needed a new one and got it without any hassle.

I was trying to tighten the lugs and never used it to break lose lugs.
I bought this torque wrench over a year ago. When I finally pulled it out to use it, i realized I bought the wrong one for wheel lugs. I said oh well... Mine as well give the thing a try on an already tightened lug.
Well, at 30 inch lbs and even up to 70 inch lbs. I must have put 100lbs of force on the handle and it didn't even click, the lug just got tightned some more. I'll bring it in to CDN Tire soon to get fixed/replace.
I just bought a cheap torque wrench just for lugs and now I know what 80 FT lbs feels like. Definitely, I over tightened the wheel lugs. Will be fixing that tonight. Not nearly as tight as it was orginally when the lugs where put on by a mechanic with air wrench. My goodness, I'm guessing they did 200+ ft lbs!!! My wheels specify 80! Been that way for ages too!

BTW, thanks for all the responses.
Yes, it has liftetime warranty. Good thing I kept the receipt too (just in case).
I can't believe it malfunctioned on me like that, especially never even used it.
I currently have a $60 torque wrench that does nothing! LOL!
