My wife just registered for the CFA Level 1 exam. She is an engineer currently and wanted to do level 1 to see if she likes finance....so there is no guarantee that she will continue on with Level 2 and Level 3.

Does anyone have any suggestions on whether or not it's worth paying the extra money for the BA-II Professional or is the "Plus" fine?

She is not interested in any of the HP calculators, as she does not want to have to learn the RPN notation.

Thanks,
Pacman

from my experiences, the CFA exam is designed well enough that student with the better calculator will not have an advantage over the other students. For example, the BA Plus Pro have MIRR fn which the Pro version does not, for that reason, the CFA exam will not ask you to calculate MIRR.

Of course, the CFA Institute could have changed this and I may be wrong.

The normal version is perfectly fine. I have not come across a question where the pro. version would offer an advantage over the normal version in all 3 levels on the exam (on level 3 right now).

I hope you wife pay and register for the exam just to see if she would like it. You can get a taste of finance by downloading the CFA text books for free and reading through it. It seems like an awful waste to sink like 1K just to "try it out".
