Depends on what you're going for. Fastest straight-line speed....or fastest course you can track?

A bit of a difference between a mustang and a 135i on the track (stock for stock).

The new Pontiac G8 GT should be pretty fast with its 6.0L V8

G8 GXP with the 6.2L should be even faster...

Both 08 STi and Evo GSR are under 45K MSRP, but probably not out the door.

Not all apply (notably the past gen non eligible Evo) but CA out-the-door prices should be in your ballpark.

BTW, you are looking for a quick car not necessarily fast cars. For quick cars, drivetrain config, weight dist, traction and gearing are hugely important.

Also speeds measured on a traction abundant glass smooth racetrack driven by pros are not usually indicative of real world speeds driven by pluggers like us.

The only one on that list comes close to being refined and useable is the Subaru Legacy. Definitely my choice of the bunch.

I thought the 135i did the 60 sprint in 4.7-4.8seconds?

Solstice GXP is 5.5sec

Odd,
Motortrend puts it at 4.7seconds (http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0806_bmw_135_mitsubishi_evo_mr_comparison/specifications.html)

Car and Driver also puts it at 4.7seconds (http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/hot_lists/high_performance/bmw_performance_m_power/2008_bmw_135i_road_test+t-it_s_not_the_size,_it_s_how_you_use_it+page-2.html)

Looked up my Coupe....

Edmunds says the 3.5SE '08 Nissa Altima Coupe (CVT) is 6.4 seconds and 14.8 in 1/4 Mile. Not bad I guess.

Looking at your list, BMW would be my pick.

If you get PROcede($1300) or JBX($500) both are piggyback, you can get down to 4.3 with approximate 360 whp and 380 torque

You could probably pick up a 2004-5 Corvette Z06, 0-60 in 3.7s. That would probably be the cheapest speed for $45k

Sure... on Shiv's inflated dyno with dyno dynamic numbers coverted to mustang numbers, that mysteriously gained 40-60 WHP between stock and modified pulls.

Brand new car....

Would either be the STI or EVO. I don't think the G8 is available in Canada yet and we don't know what price it will be here.

135i. Test drive it. I have one coming :) (I was told to correct this... my WIFE has one coming).

You really should rethink that logic though.

For $25k, you can have a 400bhp e39 M5.
The 0-60 is quoted at anywhere between 4.8 and 5.2 seconds depending on who you ask. Throw in a $7000 supercharger and you'll be eating most things for cheap, while riding in comfort with four ladies.

True RWD and seats 5. Beautiful. It'll be my next car when I offload the e39 540.

No point buying a fast car, you can't race in Canada

If you wanna buy a fast car, buy it at South America... No speed limits there and barely any cops catch you

I think we have a wienner, its only 25k too. It does 0-60 in under 6 secs, some places said it did it in 5.7.

Going fast isnt really that much fun, but going around some cones is at an autocross event. Theres a crap load of events around the gta, i started doing some and im hooked.
