Good stories about the store we all love to hate.

Anyone can have bad experiences.

I still prefer the smaller shops, far better service.

true. I just hate looking for them. FS and BB are in huge centres where smaller shops like @computers and sonaggi computers are in smaller centres. Yuo have to know the place your going to to get the stuff because the average consumer who wants electronics would go to FS/BB where theres tons of alternatives that need to be found.

As long as you enjoy the fight that it sometimes takes to get them to match and beat.

Some of those stories I question the buyer's ..

1) buying a desktop from any store you're going to pay way more than say getting it built at infonec, CC and other part wholesalers.

2) buying into any extra warranty and high end cables and crap they try to sell with purchases..

these are mistakes anyone can avoid.. When it comes to buying marked up tv's.. they have some pretty good prices during doorcrasher events and some sales compared to smaller stores (to be honest smaller stores get less revenue than a giant nationwide chain. so if anything their prices are marked up even higher).. sure if I went out and made an impulse buy on a $3000 tv without waiting until the time is right you're going to be paying tons of markup..

a lot of this is just common sense in shopping.

Yup, I've never had problems with Future Shop. Hot deal sale prices, especially during boxing week, are usually better than small shops (even without using discount gift cards). Plus the return policy is very reasonable, as long as you are honest and within the 14 or 30 day period you'll get your money back. If you're an RFD'er, you'll know to avoid buying overpriced cables at big retail stores and get better quality ones for a fraction of the price from monoprice.

you always have to fight with them if you want a PM. It's frustrating because on both sides, we're trying to save ourselves money...

I only go to FS for Verbatims DVD+R DL when they are on sale.

And when they are on sale, they're actually selling it below cost, only reason I know this is because I worked for a major media distribution centre and the prices speak for themselves. They do this because the average consumer will go to FS for the deal but will most likely leave with something else.

I find futureshop absolutely excellent. If I have the choice of spending a few bucks more for a high-ticket item and buying from FS/BB, I would buy from them in a second.

Why? For peace of mind. I know if I have any problems or just change my mind, I can bring it back no questions asked. I've never had a single issue returning something there.

That alone is reason enough to shop there.

+1

Never had problems with legit price matches either or consolidating gift cards. Try that at other retailers.

Their Refund Policy and PM's are definitely key.

You're bound to get bad service eventually, no matter where you go. Its just more likely to happen at FS and BB.
