I have a friend who works in Toronto but lives in St. Catharines. He takes the via train to Toronto 5 days a week however I don't think he qualifies for the 15.5% transit tax break.
is this true?
if it is, that's stupid in my opinon, however does he have any other options of claiming the expense?

Does he buy individual tickets, or does he have a montly via pass? Is there such a thing? If he has a monthly pass and a receipt with the amount he could possibly claim it. Remember to claim any transit costs it has to be a monthly or multiple weekly passes.

VIA Rail has a commuter pass. I think that's what you'd have to save.

yeah he gets the 10day commuter pass because it's cheaper but I just ask him if it was still cheaper if you count the 15.5% discount on the monthly pass.
he just re-calculated and it would save him about $100 a month getting the monthly pass if it gets the tax credit and the 10 day commuter tokens do not.
