Well, idiot try to draw a charge, on my friday night bball league, was under the hoop and i land on him with his knee up... OUCH! I was winded for probably 15-20mins.

I'm able to still play some light bball, nothing too intense and light jogging. Funny thing is most painful is lying down and getting up! I'm reading advice to stay out of the gym which I am for next few weeks, I'll just recumbent bike at home for cardio.

That being said, how long before it gets back to normal... it's been around a week now since the injury and i still feel pain like I injured it yesterday. Thanks -sg

ouch man.........stop being so competitive and taking it to the hoop for dunks.

The bolded part is important, hopefully you are ok in a couple of weeks. ;)

Unfortunately I don't have much to add to this thread but rest up, stay out of the gym, don't re-injure yourself and if the pain lingers, I would go visit the doc.

Hehe, most definately. Notice on Monday night I was covering the guard mostly... didn't want to bang too much down low. Yeah I'm definately taking it easy for the next few weeks.

Most painfull is sneezing, which sucks because I have mild alergies in the spring. Damn though, 4 weeks is pretty long.

Tks for the advice everyone. -sg

my dad once fractured one of his ribs and it took about a month to heal, so this should take roughly the same time, if not, less

Really hard to tell whether it's fractured or not without an xray.
But even then it won't matter cause there isn't anything you can do even if they are fractured!

I would stay out of gym as you have mentioned, but you can definitely work cardio. You can try swimming as well if you want. Stay away from any contact sports for 3-4 weeks to be on the safe side.

Learn to brace yourself when you cough and sneeze as well. Hug a pillow when you do.

Good luck!

I cracked 3 ribs once, couldn't work out at all for just shy of 3 months.

I pulled a ligament in that general area on another occasion and was only out of commision for a week.

So basically, anywhere between a week and 3 months. Good luck, and the easier you take it the quicker it'll heal.

OMG 3 MONTHS! Bye-Bye summer! I just played some light beach vball last night... man, it was brutal. I guess I'll take it easy over the summer then. Thanks again for the feedback guys/gals -sg

Good advice here guys, i've been taking it pretty easy for the past few weeks and the ribs are like 95% now. I only feel a bit of pain if hit them kinda hard. Good stuff. Been out of the gym for so long probably lost like 30% of my strenght :( Thks for the advice guys -sg

Good stuff SG.

Now you can start to stretch out your intercostals and surrounding muscles (lats, serratus anterior, obliques).

Start off with this stretch

Then move to bending sideways to get a bigger stretch.

Then you move into something like this:
