Dell 2005FPW: Problem

I have horizontal banding on the entire left side of my monitor. I've owned it since brand new in 2005, and purchased it directly from DELL. Im surprised that it's developed such a problem so soon! I dont even think it's within warranty since I tossed my bill somewhere, but can this be fixed?

Not even my 8yr old Viewsonic VG700 thats using a TN panel has this problem.

Sigh!! Help.

Are you sure you are using the right term ("banding")? It is a bit strange that an IPS monitor (or maybe spva) would develop a problem such as this.

You might want to try a colour calibrator or try manual calibrating colours. Updating your video card's drivers might help.

It is a shame because if you do have an IPS lcd, then you will have a hard time finding a lcd of similiar quality.

Im 100% certain I have an S-IPS, mainly cause I have another monitor (westinghouse MVA)... Aside from that,yes, the banding does not really affect me other than the fact that it just travels down the screen on the left side.. Maybe I used the wrong term to describe it, but it just looks like bands that are traveling down the left side of the screen horizontally.

Just offering a few ideas (it might not be the monitor at fault):

1. Is your video cable plugged in tightly at both ends (pc end and monitor)?
2. If you have another pc, have you try plugging your lcd into the other pc to see if the problem still exists?
3. You are not using a monitor extension cable are you? Extending your monitor cable may introduce interference into the video.

I believe the warranty is for 3 years. So you need to check if it's still under warranty asap

1. I double checked this, and both are screwed in tightly(pc and monitor)

2. I dont have another pc, so I can't try this. However, I have tried two different video cards, and it still had the same problem.

3. Im not using monitor extension cables.

Thanks for the tips, I tried most of them, but sadly its still creating the banding effect. The bands are like pretty thin...around 2mm apart running down the left side of the monitor.

Im going to call Dell. I think my warranty just ended cause I believe I purchased this early april of 2005. yikes.

You think it might be the cable deteriorating? Should I try replacing my DVI cable with a new one?

Banding is when 2 colours (or more) are merged as one.

If you are seeing a physical line then I think there must be something wrong with your connection. Try a different video card, different dvi cable, etc. Definitely try a VGA connection.

When my lcd connection is loose I get little lines running accross the screen.

Hmm, I'll try out a VGA. I guess my DVI cable is dying?

Could anything else effect the DVI cable? Like a powerbar near it or prolonged exposure to a power brick? I use a dual monitor setup so one of my monitors has a power brick that lays in the jungle of wires behind my desk along with my DVI that goes to the Dell 2005. Its been there for 3 years so it should of shown up when I first plugged in the way back ~

I borrowed a friends DVI cable, and the lines went away. Yahoo!
