View Full Version : MBNA PremierRewards 1% Cashback Mastercard NO ANNUAL FEE! No need for retentions!

I don't know if this is the right place to be posting this, but I think it's a hot deal. And yes, there have been similar threads about this before, but this time it's a little different.

PremierRewards Mastercard
* 1% back on all retail purchases†
* Rewards automatically credited to your account once a year
* Generous credit line—up to $100,000
* Immediate cash access at 430,000 ABMs worldwide
* $29 annual fee

Scratch the $29 annual fee. MBNA is running a campaign now that is offering their PremierRewards Mastercard for no annual fee, forever! This is true because they did call me, and it is how I learned about it. For those who aren't with Citi's Enrich Mastercard already (or got refused like me), this is a great opportunity to start appreciating cashback rewards. I know similar threads have been posted about this before, but this time around you don't need to threaten to cancel anything, you don't need to tell them about competitors, all you do is phone in (1-866-370-0552), and tell them you got called recently about an MBNA 1% cashback no annual fee credit card, and they'll offer it to you (you must mention the no annual fee, or they will charge you the regular rate PremierRewards Mastercard)!

They do approve people of student status (from my experience), but you are much better off if you have a number to give them for your annual income (they won't know where the number's from.. :rolleyes: ). I fell in the 35k-40k bracket, and I got approved for a $2500 credit limit. They also promised that I would be able to raise it after a couple months of steady payment.

Great find for anyone looking for their first or next credit card!

Thanks OP,
This article (http://www.redflagdeals.com/deals/main.php/articles/credit1/)is a great reference to all no fee credit cards.

I must say that "removing" annual fee is just a marketing gimmick, as there are many comparable or better cards can be found with no annual fee to start with.

So far I believe MBNA Starwood no fee Platinum mastercard comes with the best return ratio - works out to 6% return (after points are converted to cash), there is even dedicated thread (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109546) about that. ;)

Tried to jump on this as I'm looking for a second card (no fee w/ cashback, hopefully 1% w/o tiers). Got directed to some foreign call center and I said that I was called about this promotion and had to think about it, and now wanted to take the deal. They said the promo is only if they call us and not if we call them. Told them I what I want and would go to a competitor to get it if they wouldnt give it to me. They said go ahead...

Any advice on best NO FEE, CASHBACK card...preferably a Visa?

Citi Enrich is 1% back, no tiers, no fee.

PS: Just look at the CC article in the RFD feature section.

The OP already mentioned he knew about the other threads...the difference between that thread and this one is that you don't have to go through retentions to get the deal anymore.

The MBNA one is better than the Citi Enrich one...I've had the card for a few years now...it used to be the E-bay credit card but that got canceled and all the members were switched to this MBNA card...it's great...no fees, extended warranty, platinum benefits.

on what planet does the starwood card give you 6% cash

or do you mean like it gives you a bunch of jelly beans that you think are worth cash

The MBNA card has extended warranty, but the Citi card has 60 day price protection.

Theres a whole thread on RFD about how people have saved hundreds using price protection.

This is more or less the same card as the Citi Enrich Platinum (both have purchase protection, travel insurance etc.) but issued by MBNA.

Personally I wouldn't touch MBNA with a ten foot pole, but others may think differently.

Is it possible to switch my existing MBNA card to this one?

I have had this card for 8 years, at first without the cashback and then I got it switched about 5 years ago. My card is classified as: Premier Rewards Platinum Plus MasterCard

I didn't have to threaten anyone to get it, I just asked if they had a cash back option, they sent me a new card. Every January 1% of my year's total gets knocked off my January bill.

[Pros]
1% cashback non-tiered. Its the way to go.

[Cons]
MBNA seems like a dodgey bank but I've had this card for over 8 years without issue.

Oddly enough after I bought a car financed through Scotiabank, they offered me a similar card, 1% non-tiered no fee. Can't hurt to ask if you prefer Scotiabank.

Ditto...guy told me if I called to apply, annual fee will be charged. If I had applied when I got the call, then no annual fee. I guess it's YMMV.

I agree. I've been with Citi and with MBNA and can tell you I'm a lot happier with Citi. I got an MBNA card before and they gave me a great promo rate, so I transferred my balance to them. After the promo rate was over, I naturally transferred the balance out and into another lower rate card. Because I did that, they suspended my account and told me I can't do that. I ended up closing all my MBNA accounts and vowed never to sign up for another MBNA product.

Citibank on the other hand, offered me a permanent low interest rate when I called them to see what they can do for me, since I've been with them for 10 years.

you never had to go through retentions from what i know. i got it through retentions although i wasn't trying for it, i just called to cancel because i wanted my record gone. when i told my friend about it, he got it no problem by just calling up a regular CSR. this was about 2 months ago.

not worth of hassle of who's calling who

Citi Enrich 1% no fee is better, applied then got it couple of years ago

and you might be able to upgrade to platinum card: 1% cash back $500 max instead of $250, travel/car rental insurance, price protection...:razz:

I called Citi about the Enrich Platinum and they said they're no longer offering it, only the standard Enrich card that basically gives you no benefit other than 1% cash back capped at $250. Not worth it IMO.

I got my enrich platinum card 3 weeks ago. I think it depends on the person who answered your call...

You need to get the regular enrich and then upgrade if you have the required credit limit. You can't get it directly.
