I was a long time user of 10-10-925 (Yak) for a long time but for some reason the call quality for me has become terrible and I can't bare to use it anymore.

I started looking for a new 10-10 number and I found looney call but often I don't talk that long and there is a minimum $1 charge.

I just found 10-10-alo (256) and its 2.9 cents a minute in canada and the us with no other fees. http://www.1010alo.ca

I haven't tried it yet because I'm skeptical by nature. Has anyone tried this yet? The website looks legit, has a toronto head office etc.

Seems hot.

EDIT: 10-10-ALO is only available in Ontario and Quebec on a bell landline. CRAP for me! But good for some.

i switched from this one to yak a few months ago - i found yak had much clearer call quality, but that was a while ago, maybe they have improved.

Does this only work with a landline or could I use it with my cell? (The site only claims it works with Bell landlines)

wow thanks for the heads up, going to try this out next time I need to call home to New Zealand. Just for comparison it is 2.9cents a minute with this service, against 18cents a minute on Yak. So if the call quality is fine this is a great service for me :)

I use 10-10-229 which I've found to have really cheap rates. There is a 5 cent connection charge per call, but apart from that everything is billed by the minute. Whenever you make a call there is a recording telling you what the per-minute rate is. According to their website, this service is only available to those with a Bell landline in the GTA and Quebec.

Just wondering... i have never used those types of services (never call anyone but they always call me LOL) but my wife often buys those call cards... very often they expire without using all the minutes or has to use all of $5 card in one call to get the maximuum minutes...

How does these types of service compare to calling cards... in other words which one is a better deal for an RFD'er :P
Most calls originates from QC to ON, Australia, Mauritius

any reviews on those type of service ...sort of the rewards CC reviews on RFD available online?

Thanks..

I still prefer yak. I have tried numerous different outcall providers, but yak wins in my opinion for 1 feature: the Yak Callback service. Dial a 416 number, get a busy signal, they call back (on my unlimited incoming minues cell phone) and I dial anywhere in N America for 3.5 cents/min.

Yes, it is one extra step, but takes a second as I have the number programmed into my speed dial. Just hold down the 9 key, it dials, and then hang up, it calls right back...

We've used 10-11-295 for a couple of years after finding they were much cheaper than YAK. I'll look up the rates and post them...

<edit>
2 cents a minute for Canada and the US. 25 cent minimum. Many other international countries/cities are 3 cents a minute, and here (http://www.1011295.com/Rates) are the rest of their rates.

Looks like 1010-229 (http://www.1010229.ca/rates.php?language=english) is currently offering $0.00/min calls to cell and landlines in the US. (after the $0.05 connection fee).

Rates exclude prevailing governmental taxes and fees. Prices are in cents per minute. Connection fee 5¢. Calls are billed per minute rounded to the nearest cent and are subject to change.

This service is available for Toronto, Ontario and Quebec residents with a Bell Canada subscription only.

How do I use 10-10-ALO (256)?
You can start using 10-10-ALO (256) on any landline phone in Ontario and Quebec (10-10-ALO's long distance service is now also available on any Rogers Home Phone).

Anyone know of any similar services for people outside of Ontario and Quebec ? The two numbers listed in this thread (10-10-alo and 10-11-295) require Bell landline in only these two provinces. If not I'll just stick with Yak I guess, still cheaper than not using anything :P

In Alberta and Lower Mainland, BC you can use 10-10-969.

This is the service I have been using for years with absolutely no complaints.

This thread has got me doing some checking around.

Just found this site: http://www.telehop.com

Using their 10-10-100 service the rate in Canada is 25¢ for the first 15 minutes or less then 4¢/minute after the initial 15 minutes.

Using their 10-10-620 service you get unlimited minutes for $1/call.

Rates are cheaper if you use them as the billing service.

Seem to be Canada wide (Bell and Telus).

Note to Macintosh users: Couldn't get the site to display properly with Safari. Had to use Firefox.

I used this for the first time last week calling within Canada, and the line disconnected twice. The first time after maybe 15 min. and the second time after 5 mins. I called back using Yak and had no problem. I called them for a refund of my $2 since the calls disconnected and I had to use another per minute billing service. The CSR was useless and I doubt I'll see my refund. Not sure if this is a one time glitch but I was not impressed. Anyone else have this problem with them? I can't speak to the quality of 10-10-ALO but I have never had a problem with Yak. Note I only call in Canada and the US.

I guess it depends on where you are calling, and how you are calling (mobile, home, computer)

If you call North America only then i think link2voip or link2voip mobile is the best.. you cannot use this with a home phone tho.. the mobile is cool because it works on callback, and unlike yak, the initial call setup is to a busy number, rather than one that answers (incurs a one minute charge)

heres a table (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pzwM2sL74n5-iYhNGRx0tcg)

edit:
you can use link2voip mobile with a home phone, i guess.. in which case it is better all around...
