I'm not sure when this happened/did I just completely missed it at my last top up but I noticed today that Shell's V-Power is now $0.20 more than Bronze (Regular, 87)?!?!?

Is this just my location here Brampton @ Sandalwood Parkway/410? Is this an error?

I do fill up at Shell because I love V-Power/No Ethanol but this is just ridiculous, I might as well go with Sunoco Ultra 94 is this is true. I ask the attendant and didn't really get a response/just nodded.

I headed over to Petro Canada just to check and it's still only $0.12 over Regular. Since I have the Citi/Petro Canada MasterCard, I filled up.

DOH!

Looks like Shell wants to make more profit.

How much is the Sunoco 94?

94 was 1.35 yesterday in Calgary.

Maybe that's why it was so expensive on my last fill up!!!

Time to try out other gas station I guess.

I just filled up at the Dixie / Bovaird Shell, and the Gold there was 12c more, not 20c.

I was there around 9:15pm.

Premium really makes me think twice about getting a Premium gas car for my next car and is making me lean towards a Honda Fit, Smart Car or Hybrid..

Depends how much you drive I guess. I only fill up every 2 weeks or so, and each time only cost me maybe $5 more. So that's only $120 extra per yr for paying for premium.

Gotta pay to play. :D

Heh true.

I've set my eyes on the Saab 9-3, but both 2.0T and Aero require premium gas. I really gotta think twice now cause of gas. I drive a lot more than you haha. I fill up almost 3 times every 2 weeks. I'm a commuter.

What vehicle requires 94 AKI gas? Last I checked, most premium vehicles only need 91.

interesting. last night (around 12:30am) I filled up at the Shell on Warden just off of 401 before my trip home to sauga. They were charging Regular for V-Power. :cheesygri

WRX STi, Mazdaspeed 6, to name a few common ones that require 93 AKI.

Generally if the engine is a high compression design or turbocharged, then the odds of it requiring premium are increased. Also, in those cars, running regular grade fuel will actually cause damage to the engine in the long term. Good news for car salesmen, bad news for you if you value auto longevity.

Be warned...

You can still have gasoline with less 5% ethanol doesn't have to be stated in Ontario as a gasoline/ethanol blend.

If its application where ethanol could damage your engine(marine) don't fill up at car gas station. If you do you need to test ever batch of gas you use.

Rumour is that the Sunoco 94 has much less then 10% ethanol but my car seems to be happiest running 94 octane from Petro Canada(Quebec).

That's why I don't get my gas at Shell. It's 12 cents higher for premium here as well.

At Superstore it's only 8 cents. Superstore gives 7.5 cents cashback as well, so it's a decent deal.

that was one thing i noticed back in march when i drove to montreal. i'm normally a shell person, but i was in need of gas and stopped at nearest gas station, which was a petro canada. saw they had 94 octane i was like whoa!!! here the petro doesn't have 94. or maybe they do, it's just i don't ever go to petro canada. ha ha ha

It runs fine on 91, since in the US that is the best you can get in some states.
Recommended is 93 octane.

You can also tune it for 91 as well, which many people do.

Crazy enough to have to pay $1.27 for just regular, let alone 10 to 20 cents more for premium gas.
20 cents extra is 90 cents more a gallon (x4.5)!
