I bought a dell inspiron 530 q6600 on the dell $499 easter egg deal
it came with 3 gb of ram 2x1gb sticks and 2x512mb.... i wanna upgrade to 4gb and was wondering if i can just get any other ddr2 ram and replace the 512's working together with the dells ram or if its better to just get 2x 2gb sticks new (price really isn't my concern since everything is so cheap) and then i can expand later.

also with 32 bit recognize more than 4gb?

also where do i get the best prices?

thanks so much in advance!!!

Darren

If you have no plan to run 64-bit OS, I wouldn't bother ... but that's just me ...

do you know the exact specs of the ddr2 ram?
if you end up getting rid of the 1gb sticks, i might be interested in purchasing them from you, if the specs are correct. =)

imho its worth it when ya can get a 4 gig kit of OCZ DDR2 800 ram for under $100 & create less latency cause your using 2 slots insted of all 4 as you are now.

If ya sell those 2 sets ya should get enought to get the 1 4 gig kit for like $10-20 out of your own pocket

Sorry to re-hash an old thread..

So it's possible to go to 4GB's with only using 2 slots (2x2gb) vs (4x1gb)? I ordered a 2x2 kit but didn't check if there are limitations of size / slot (seeing as the MB only supports 4GB total). It's a Foxconn DG33M03...

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I guess I won't cancel the order then. It's too bad we can't do a BIOS flash or something to allow 8GB's
