Ummm, there domains are a little expensive don't ya' think? Even with the 20% off they are quite a bit more than 1and1.com (who I use). There are probably less expensive places to go as well...
Thanks though I guess...

GoDaddy is one of the biggest players in the Domain Name game.. its a security thing.
NameCheap is the other one

They are one of the biggest players, but also one of the worst in the industry as well... The Nodaddy site has lots of stories about them..
I get these 'coupons' as well, but have never been able to get one to work. Apply it during check-out, the price doesn't change. Called them up, said oh it must be a glitch but we can only process it only with that coupon code...

It would be prudent to have your domain registrar different from your host. That was if things aren't going so well, you're not totally locked in.

Alrighty.. Ill try to be impartial here.
I have 8 Domains.. Only 1 with GoDaddy. All the rest with NameCheap.
I have NEVER had any problems with GoDaddy. There are websites bashing every company. If you keep an impartial view and read some of those "horror stories" you will see GoDaddy's side.
"they deactivated my account because my email was wrong!"... no.. they deactivated his account due to 8 weeks of Whois Info violation and no response. Whois Violations are pretty serious. If he wanted to sign up with a fake email so he didn't get spam, C'est La Vie.
The reason I use NameCheap is because I like the interface 100x better, its faster and their WhoisGuard.
There is nothing wrong with GoDaddy. And the coupons work.

Ummm...lol....have you heard of 1and1 before? (They have been around for 20 years and are one of the biggest hosting companies). They are secure.
A friend of mine is a reseller for godaddy.com, even he recommends going elsewhere!

I have almost 500 names with godaddy and have been using them for years. With the codes you can always get a dot com for 6.95
I have not had a single issue with them and when domain tasting they refund very fast. As well if you need to talk with them they answer the phone very fast.

Never had a problem with godaddy coupons. With coupons, the price is very reasonable and close to 1and1 prices. Used 1and1 before for hosting...their service was questionable to say the least.
You just have to make sure godaddy coupons work with the domain type. For example, if there is a specific coupon that is a discount off .org domains, you can't expect it to work with .com domains...and vice versa.

The big story with GoDaddy was that they deactivated seclists.org, an archive of IT security mailing lists, because of a post that got posted to one of the mailing lists. They gave the site owner 52 seconds of warning before they shut down the domain, claimed that they had given an hour's notice, then later claimed "I think the fact that we gave him notice at all was pretty generous."
Basically, it was like RFD's domain registrar shutting down RFD's domain names because someone complained about a post about modchips.
Emphasis on domain registrar, not webhost. A domain registrar's job is to maintain addresses, not to police the content hosted on those domains. That's the territory of the webhost and ISP.
That said, I've never had a problem with GoDaddy and I doubt anyone here would would end up with any problems either, but that was a very well-documented and well-covered incident that others might want to look into before they register anything with them.

I've never had a problem with Godaddy's domain registration side. Their email and website hosting on the other hand - that's a story to tell.
I'm in the IT business and decided to try their hosting (when I left Hostopia, my free hosting was removed as well). The website hosting was crap - they had crap features, but it is like the saying goes - what you get is what you pay for.
My plan was for 69 US per year. The hosting ran my site (php/mysql) but had ****** applications for stuff like statistics - i mean who the hell uses analog still? - no graphs, no nothing.
Email was the worst - this is the reason why I left Godaddy 4 months before my year was up. They have a spam filtering system that YOU CAN'T CONTROL. It's to filter spam at the top level before it flows down to the mailbox and individual spam settings. Of course they don't tell you, and of course they don't admit it, but it speaks for itself. I was getting a LOT less spam - in fact there were times where i sent myself a test email to make sure it was working.... this seems good no?
Problems got noticed when i was looking to buy a house. I had a real estate agent send me emails for houses to look at..... nope - i didnt' receive them.
I had another real estate agent from a different company send me emails about houses and i still didnt receive them. I told one of my contacts who's in the hosting business and he said this is why he gets so many customers from Godaddy - their mail is just plain crap.
Not only does it filter out spam, but it filters out legit email at a level you have no control over. My spam filters were set to off when all of this was going on. In fact, i never turned them on and specifically forced them off when i moved my email over.
