I need to get Hong Kong Dollars (Cash) - a few thousand CDN worth. Where is the best place so I'm not paying excessive fees?
Should I go to my bank (TD Canada Trust), or a specialty exchange place or other suggestions. Please be specific, including location or address if possible. Will they have it on hand or will I have to give them time to get it (how long?)?
Thanks.

I would like to know too since I will go to HK in this summer. For bank, I guess a better bet is go to HSBC instead.
Last time I go to HK I just use my bank card to get cash at the ATM with PLUS sign at the airport. They have so many there so it shouldn't be a problem. I don't know which exchange rate will be better though.

My suggestion is bring CAD cash to HK and exchange it in HK banks. The exchange rate is FAR better than here (even HSBC)

+1, even bank staff rate will be worst than exchanging money in HK (or any asia) local bank. try to bring USD instead of CAD.

Most foreign exchanges have HK dollars. Earlier this year I bought some HK dollars at the foreign exchange booth at Markville Mall (second floor at the top of the escalators near the food court). I didn't need to order the currency, I just walked up and bought it.

My questions would be:
(1) Don't they have a currency exchange office at Yorkdale Mall in T.O.?
(2) If so, do they exchange CAD$ to Yen as well?

Just a small point, did the OP even mention he was going to HK?

Good point. However, HKD is only used in HK unlike USD. If he need to pay back somebody, he could just pay the same value in CAD. There is no need to exchange and loss the exchange fee like this.

OT. Is it the same for Japanese Yen that I should just exchange it there?

Yes, I'm the op and I will be going to HK and need to pay some money to family.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will take Canadian cash and convert in HK.
One more question, I heard that they can be pretty picky regarding old bills and I should get brand new crisp Canadian bills directly from the banks in Canada vs an ATM. Anyone can confirm this?

I think as long as the bill has no plastic tape, or like missing some corners, then it should be fine. But if you can, get brand new bills of course is better.

(1) Yes, it is underneath the escalator going up to the movie theaters.
(2) Possibly since it is one of the more popular currencies.
