I got a flyer in the mail today saying they're having summer memberships, no annual contract, $2/week. I'm going tomorrow to check out the gym, is there anything i should be aware of when signing up?

That would probably be for the first month on a years contract where the other 11 months would be a something nuts (Im thinking around 70 a month, not sure though). If you do sign up make sure you pay them once in full so they dont keep withdrawing money out of your bank if you decide to change gyms after that year, Ive heard many cases of this any not just Extreme.

A couple years ago, i was looking into joining there(pape/danforth) when they had what seemed like a great deal. went it to find out, that the first two months were great and then at a ridiculous rate for the next ten. there was no mention of year contract but it was there. not sure if its the same deal but chances are you will be disappointed.
My advice go there tomorrow with workout clothes and at least you'll get a free workout. We always like free :cheesygri

Got the same type of flyer.
After reading the fine print, its probably like what others have mentioned:
Cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotional offers. ‘No annual contract - Eight dollars per month’ offer based on two month prepaid membership.
and
‘No annual contract’ month to month membership available after the initial two months. First time members only. Amenities and programs may vary by location.
So its basically a prepaid 2 month deal for $8/month. After that its whatever they feel like.

Extreme Fitness = HORRIBLE.
I gaurantee you there is some scam in there, bo doubt whatsoever. They are one of the worst companies you will ever deal with.

Extreme fitness uses way more pressure and underhanded tactics to get members.
I've noticed that the members fall into 3 categories
1) real hardcore people that gets their money worth at the gym
2) showy people that likes to show off that they have money, have no interest in actually breaking a sweat pushing themselves working out.
3) people who got scam.
If you are not in the above three categories, join another gym.

Well just make sure you check your credit card bills properly
i was warned by a friend (that went to extreme) he told me that they charge your credit card twice sometimes and so he called htem and they told him it was probably a glitch in their system adn would fix it.
Then i asked my other girl friend who used to work there and she said "yeah alot of gyms do that, thats how they make their money.. if they dont notice then they wont put the money back but for the people that do notice they jsut say its an accident"
