Tiger Direct is selling an unlocked Motorola F3 cell phone for $39.99.

I think it's great for a back up or if you are in need of an extra phone.

FYI.... this is a primitive version of the SLVR, if I'm not mistaken. Still looks good, and it has the basic phone functions. Just don't expect to take pictures or listen to music with this phone.

Bad SMS support too. This is intended for people who want a basic phone with no shiny features but good battery life.

That's a cellular network setting, not a phone thing. I've had this problem before, and it wasn't a phone problem, it was something they had to fix via customer service.

Hmmm the battery looks the same as the one that's inside my razr v3c. For $40 I get the battery with a new phone?? How is the sound quality compared to the rrazr?

haha this phone was announced a few years ago, it looks neat, but I dont know if it actually is neat, because it is literally the third world country version of whichever motorola phone it resembles

A friend of mine has this one. It is good for PHONE CALLS ONLY. Forget about doing anything else with it. The display is e-ink, which is pretty neat. Battery life and sound quality are good. There is a primitive phone book with numbers stored on your SIM card. The phone is incredibly thin. The headset connector is non-standard, so forget it if you plan to use a headset. Lastly, the clock drifts and may not set itself from the network.
Some more details and secret settings here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_F3

Exactly.

Or you can just buy a SIM card on eBay... Either Rogers or Fido.

This looks like a good phone to give to your kids. If they lose it or break it, you're only out about $40 and the balance of the prepaid minutes.

This is what we call a drug dealer's phone. And the fact that it looks like a disposable is even better.

Hot deal, great for my parents who have trouble seeing small text and using multi-layered menus.

Got 2!

Wouldn't drug dealers want to know who is calling? This one doesn't support name display (I had this phone before) and it's quite difficult to read the digits, not to mention any words if you receive/send text messages.

For a new $40 unlocked GSM phone, I don't think we should ask for too much other than the very basic phone functions... make calls out and receiving calls... ;) :D

does it work with yours? because call waiting works on every phone i've used and i swap phones A LOT with the same sim. so its not because of my network settings. its the phone

EDIT: after more research: many people say this phone DOES NOT SUPPORT CALL WAITING on the phone itself. however on the moto site it does say it has call waiting =S some providers will hold the call for you on their network instead of using a headset's function. not sure if rogers will do it for you and even if they do they'll probably charge you.

Man guys a lot of misinformation in this thread.

The F3 is not an "old" phone. It just came out November 2006 (essentially Spring 2007 around here), only 1 year ago.

The F3 is targeted for people who want a simple phone, with VERY GOOD battery life (the F3 uses e-Ink not an LCD, so it is very easy to read in daylight as well as being easy on power), and don't care about anything else.

It is also targeted for people who work in jobs with high security clearance; the kind of job where having a camera on the premises is not allowed whatsoever. People who work in these sensitive areas (and there are A LOT) find themselves with fewer and fewer available options for a phone every year as everyone sticks cameras into their phones.

Actually, it is targeted at the developing world. It is not officially available here.

$30 shipping really kills the deal...

I thought they were supposed to have FREE shipping for orders over $99 so I entered QTY-3 to see what happened. S&H dropped to $20 but still not free!!!

Anyone know a way to get the S&H for free???

Does this mean it doesnt have call display ?

Because I would need that atleast I dont like being surprised when answering the phone.

All I need is Call Display and a Phone Book, but I guess thats stored on the SIM right ?

I have a RAZR but it sucks, you cant see it all in the sunlight outside, like 0%

It shows number only, not the name (unless in address book). Most cell phones nowadays support name and number. I think the address book is stored in the SIM by default. Because I remember when I sold mine the buyer asked me if I had their number on my phone when he tested it out. :cheesygri

The RAZR is better than his one for this reason. At least it has a functioning call display. The reception on this F3 is the same as other quad band Motorola phones i've had (keep in mind I have the worst reception in my building so I've been testing several phones for the past year or so).

Yup, and looks like they haven't improved at all even with all these complaints. BTW, you can do a chargeback on your credit card since the item you received is not as advertised and the merchant would not accept returns. Haven't had a chargeback denied yet, if you are honest the credit card company usually sides on buyer's behalf.
