Seen in store at OD Lougheed Highway, GVR.
I believe it is the cheapest build PC with OS one can find. FS has been trying to get rid of their stock of the PC for some time...
btw it is pretty sad how HP gutted the COMPAQ brand and this model is probably the last we'll see of COMPAQ.
Cheers

Those specs are hotter than the $199 FS Boxing Day special. Is this refurbished?
That being said, my $199 machine has been running smooth.

Why would they want to keep the demo??
Just came back from OD on Lougheed Hwy, Burnaby. Bought the SR5310F demo for 10% less and they also gave a free power bar. Damn the $10 enviro fee though:mad: .
They still have one SR5350F new in the box. Thanks OP!!

It was gone at about 2:20-2:30. My dad went to OD to see if he could find the desktop (which would actually be used by my mom soon). He found signs posted about pretty much everything except the SR5350F so he asked a sales rep and they got the last one for him.
He also said someone was asking for the same model when he was paying and apparently there was still another in the shelf but the sales rep said it was another model.
Anyways the deal might be GVR not just one store so someone should try to confirm other stores if they are interested. There was no prices and if OD works like Staples, the price in the system should at least be around the entire area and not just one store (there was no sticker no nothing, scanned in @ 259).
Just a note, the specs on the 5350 is actually slightly off. The CPU turns out to be a 2180 not 2160 (not a big preference).
Opened it up right away and found the following...
Full somewhat detailed specs
Intel e2180 (2.00GHz Duo core)
mATX motherboard (no name brand, has 1x 56k modem using 1 PCI slot, 1 free PCI slot and 1 free PCI-e slot)
250W Bestec PSU
2GB (2x1, no free slot) ram
DVD burner - didn't figure out brand yet (its covered up so pretty hard to tell)
Asus heatsink (never seen this heatsink before but its not stock)
360GB Seagate 7200.10 HD
Both the HD and DVD are SATA
Software - It takes a good 1 hour to burn the 3x DVD recovery disc (kinda a waste of time but i burned it anyways). It comes with a good deal of junk ware or ad ware... whatever you want to call it. Shortly after burning the recovery disc, i formated and re-installed MS Vista Home Premium. Managed to overclock to 2.4GHz without too much effort and that should be all my mom needs (if that even).

I don't know why, but OD doesn't always want to sell their demos. Even at regular prices (not sale/discounted prices), they tell me that they need higher approval before selling the demo.
I believe even for $200 or $250 you're much better off buying the Dell laptop @ $450 for the following reasons:
- newer CPU
- you get a LCD display
- portable

Demos at OD typically aren't supposed to be sold until the product is discontinued and there are no new ones remaining.

I used a burnt ISO from MS (that i got from another computer) and used the key on the box to install Home Premium x64.
Also anyone who wants to add a video card, it seems like the machine is using approx 180W and 70% of 250W is 175 so the PSU is maxed out. Adding anything to it could result in unexplained crashes. The PSU might be rated above 70% but i couldn't find any info on it and i doubt its HQ enough to go above 250W.
If you want to check a video cards (online), the 250W PSU is the same one Dell used on their older comps (and same line as their newer comps). If you want to push the PSU to the limit, it is possible to get a 9600GT (9600GT w/o 56k modem will use about 240W) in but note that there probably will be random crashes.
The heatsink is also slightly better than stock, i was able to get the system fairly stable @ 3GHz for anyone who plans to overclock. Not going to bother to try to go any higher since stock speed is most likely fast enough for basic web surfing + watching streams.

I have a Compaq bought last fall for $199 at staples and have the same 250 Watt Psu. A Geforce GT 7300 works even though box say 350 Watt psu needed.

Just remember most PSU is 70% (while brand names are around 80%... top line PSU are about 90%). Also better PSU are rated below what they are capable of (sometime they can even go higher than rate even after the % cut). While lower PSU will have problems (aka random crashes, performance drops) if its pushed to its limit.
You can, based on research on same PSU products get x1650, 9800 pro, 7600GS on this PSU (even with a higher wattage CPU). So based on that fact, you should easily be able to go as high as a 9600GT but it does not prevent random crashes that could (and probably will occur).
MJ, no SKU sorry, they don't even have the "ticket" for the item when my dad bought it (at least thats what he told me). The $199 comp were all gone so no tag of that either. He did find a 5310 when he was there but apparently priced over $400.
I told him to search via model number (SR5350F) and that worked. Not sure if its any help.
Just note the CPU is suppose to be 2160... not sure if i got lucky or OD's version is 2180. Not much difference between the CPUs tho.

How do you overclock with a Compaq or HP BIOS? I didn't think that they had such options in the BIOS setup?

everyone always talks about it, but never really explain it.
Software overclock. Dell, HP, etc locked the FSB in the bios so there's only 2 ways of overclocking it. Hack the bios (long and painful route) or software overclock (easy but not as stable as hardware altho difference isn't all that big).

Even if it isn't a price error, it is clearance so Staples has the right not to match. I doubt this price is not considered clearance...

according to S.Chan, IIRC, their clearance prices are indicated by .01, .02, .03, .04, .05, (etc.?). each level of increase indicates the extent to which the item has been on clearance

I picked up a SR5350F yesterday from the Oliver Square location yesterday. I got the second last one, a friend went an hour later and got the last one. They were all out of the $199 ones.
What overclocking software is best to use these days? I've overclocked via BIOS for years, but haven't touched any overclocking software for a long time. Not sure what to look for or try with this.

if demo, you should ask for a bit of a discount.
dunno about OD, but demo units at stooples sometimes qualify for an extra 5-10% off
only bad thing about demos is it's been on the shelf for so long and you've no clue what kind of abuse it's been thru

I received a 10% discount on my display model at OD and it looked like new, still had the film covering the trim pieces on the case. I don't think you can abuse the PC too much that would affect the performance and even so, there's a 1 year warranty.

my meaning of "abuse" wasn't sth that affected performance, but rather that the physical case could be damaged and that many customers likely have used it before...
there`s no doubt a demo has been thru some wear `n tear
