sorry guys, but Im kinda new to accounting with credit etc... i currently have a student visa card, which has no interest if paid on time and no fees, as long as your balance is 0. However, I am no longer a student and it is expiring soon.

Id like to find a new credit card with similar benefits. I don't use it a lot, but when I do i usually pay if off right away. any suggestions?

I use the Citibank Enrich Platinum Mastercard as my primary credit card.

It offers all the features of a platinum card (extended warranty, price protection, etc...), NO annual fee and gives me 1% cash back/year.

It sounds like you should be looking towards something in the no-fee cashback range if you plan on using it a little and typically pay it off right away. With low annual spending I don't think any annual fee card would work out in your benefit, and I think the same would hold true for airmiles/aeroplan/other rewards cards.

Just renew the card and state that you are not a student anymore, because if cancel the card .... your credit history will lower (i think) ... If you have a good history with current credit card, renew and keep using. If you want a new credit card with the continuation of your visa, get a mastercard to have verity of use between visa or mastercard

Although your expiry date is approaching, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will no longer have access to your account. Many banks issue the replacement card (w/ new expiry date) 30-60 days before the card expires. So if your card is expiring in July (as an example), you should receive a new card by the 2nd week of July while your current card will be good until midnight on July 31st.

And is it specifically a student card, or is it a card you acquired as a student? If it's the later, you shouldn't have any issues with keeping this account. If it's specifically a student card, banks will typically transfer everything into a new account...

Call the CSR number at the back of the card and ask them if a replacement card will automatically be sent to you. I strongly suggest that you keep that card open for a while until you can start building your credit and have more than just a couple of years established. Once you solidify your credit and have a long history, then you can close the account if its terms are not favorable. And if you really do want to close it now, I'd recommend getting another card before closing this account.

read the credit card feature article

last I heard starwood was the best if you used hotels and certain flights a lot, amex 2% is next best if you dont mind amex, and 1% cash back from mbna or citi is best if you dont want anything else

and the norm on these is to never pay a normal fee, at least not unless you want a lower interest rate
