I have a thinkpad T30, pretty old model and I love it!
Build quality is unmatched. Taken so many hard falls.
Still working great after 5 years! I live the thinklight as well
Thinkpads are the best laptops ever

definitely one of the best buys if you can get past their 'executive' subtle style.
On a T61 as we speak.. ;)

I also love how they age, a thinkpad that is 1-2 years old can look exactly like a new laptop. I hate how dells and HPs age, they look hideous after a year. Thinkpads are also build like a tank, no matter if you drop it or anything, it'll still run like the day you got it.

I have a T61.
I recently opened up the laptop and looking at the inside of it was a thing of beauty.
Solidly made. I was just as impressed in knowing that every component inside was easily accessible.
I've owned an Asus brand lappy, (Z70va) and although it was a decent laptop, the build quality was rather flimsy in comparison, and even getting to the RAM slots was a chore in itself.
No worries here with my Thinkpad.

I'm thinking of picking up a T61p this summer for school, but do you guys think the NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M 256MB will be lacking if I wanna do some gaming? Namely CS 1.6 and Team Fortress 2? I've got a 6600gt if that's any form of comparison.
I keep hearing about the uber build quality...I definately want that since my laptop will be my life.

Yes yes, another thinkpad user here.
Using a T60 with T7200/2gb ddr2 ram :)
I do have a question though...is there a way to set it so when I hook my laptop through VGA to a 4:3 screen if it can automatically change the output resolution to 1280x1024? My T60 is native at 1680x1050 (it's a widescreen, so I think its 16:10?) Right now it's a hassle having to change the resolution manually by going into the settings pane to change it everytime I hook up/disconnect it.

I love my X41T as well. The keyboard is unmatched. When someone tripped on the power cord and sent my lappy 4 feet to the floor, the only damage was a small crack in the battery.
I cant wait to upgrade to the next (sofar unannounced) tablet.

Well, considering my notebook was A-OK ... nothing.
I did end up swapping the battery for a new one (so I could get the 30% lost charge back while under warranty). But it wasn't due to the crack. Oh, I also bought a second battery so I wouldnt have to rely on my power cable in a crowded place(or in a boardroom, where the incident took place).

That videocard is the workstation equivalent of the 8600M GT. So in other words, it'll be able to play those games easily.

My user name said it... I love my thinkpad!
I have drop my laptop yet but I really like how cool this laptop runs... I have yet to fan turn on before? Is it me or is there no fan? I do have a targus chilipad if that makes a difference....
Anyways, I give up on compaq/hp now... I had two compaq before my thinkpad... They are ok, but I miss the fact that it will warm my hand....

Oh ya, just in case anyone hasnt figured this out, reinstall XP from scratch. Lenovo installs a lot of crapware and you'll get a huge performance boost by doing a clean install.

No matter what I have, I always install from scratch.
T60 now have had T40, T41 & T42. But from this point forward I'm stuck on the T60. Work has gone to HP laptops and they are as bad as DELL laptops.
I'm the only IT guy here that will not relinquish my IBM.

Although OP has been Thhhhhhuperbanned...I couldn't resist posting this up.
Had a couple $5's and $10's lyin' around so I went bonkers, and this photo came about. I had a chuckle, since I hardly EVER use cash anymore these days. AMEX2% FTW!

BTW, how are the Lenovo 3000 series laptops? Comparable to thinkpads?

My T40 had a solder joint problem, when the computer is warm and you move the laptop such that there is any flex on the mobo, the machine freezes. I bought a replacement mobo on ebay and the same problem is popping up again.
I still love thinkpads, aside from the solder joint problem it has been a dream to own. It will not stop me from buying another thinkpad.

Another benefit that doesn't get enough credit is how thinkpads don't get nearly as hot as some other laptops. My girlfriend has an hp and you can't even out the thing on your lap when it's on it gets so hot.
I have a t40 and have had it for years and will be getting a t61 this summer.
Hands down my fav laptop.

I bought a T61P with dock as a desktop replacement and I really like it. It's fast and very well made. And frankly I like its professional/serious style.
It's even good for some light gaming. Heck I can play Mass Effect on it; at only 1280x800 but hey that's already 720p :D besides I have a PS3 for games.

I've got a T40.
Battery has gone to crap. A charge doesn't last for more than a half hour or so. Not sure if I should bother replacing the battery
