I've been using Quicktax + netfile for years, the actual refund amount always matched, but this year the actual refund is less than the amount that QT calculated, I haven't received the assessment, just curious anyone had similar experience? what could be the reason?

It can be one of 2000 reasons. Check your own assessment when it comes to know exactly what happens to your own case.

Or, if you've set up "My Account" access with the CRA, you can log on and see the numbers they've used for the return plus check your assessment.

It may even be that they have made an error - happened to my husband a couple of years ago. In that case, you can register a dispute on-line from the "My Account" main page or call them to dispute. When we did that for hubby's return, it took about three months total for them to correct the mistake (although the additional payment did come with interest).

Tons of reasons. Calculation errors, denying deductions or credits that you're not entitled to or didn't provide sufficent documents, etc. Maybe there's a tax slip that you didn't report. CRA gets copies of all T-slips sent to you. If you didn't report a tax slip that they have in the system, they will automatically reassess you for the tax. It'll tell you on your Notice of Assessment.
