I received the following email in my inbox. Does this mean it would be useless for those of us who paid for lifetime Privacy feature? Or tighter Privacy not showing name of registrant?

Dear Private WHOIS,

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) will be implementing changes to the dot-ca (.ca) WHOIS, effective June 10, 2008.

The dot-ca WHOIS service is a public search tool that allows users to look up information about the holders of dot-ca domain names. A WHOIS search returns such information as name, address, phone and fax numbers and email address. After consulting with the public, CIRA adopted a new WHOIS policy that no longer displays this information, to provide greater privacy for our Registrants.

As an individual Registrant, your private information will be protected by default – no action is required to receive this additional privacy feature.

As a result of the changes to the dot-ca WHOIS, there have also been changes to the Registrant Agreement. To review the new Registrant Agreement, please visit http://www.cira.ca/en/cat_Registrar.html. A list of changes to the Registrant Agreement can be found here.

Please visit http://www.cira.ca/en/Whois/whois_intro.html for more information about the new dot-ca WHOIS.

I wonder if the registrars that currently offer privacy option will even continue to do so.

CIRA is providing an opt out option for names registered by individuals.
Names regged under company names will not default to private status and a request will have to be made to hide contact info.

Pretty much all of my domain names are for sale (for the right price) and since most of my sales are by contact info obtained through the whois I may opt out of the privacy program.

And a reminder esp. to those RESELLERS out there who CONTINUE to have access to this "suddenly" private whois info via their reseller interface, you are now NOT allowed to reveal any personal information of the registrant unless it is confirmed that they are communicating with the Registrant, or their Administrative contact.
