Hey guys, having a huge issue with Dell right now? I purchased a extended warranty about 3 years ago on a system that they shipped me that was defected. I went to return the unit and the salesperson called me back and told me that they would ship me a brand new unit and start the warrenty from the date I got the new one. Even on Dell.ca when I log in it states my ship date as 07/05/2005. They are explaining that my warranty has expired April 6, 2008. So clearly they are telling me I paided 1 1/2 months of warrenty when I did not even have a computer. I have called in numerous times spent at least 5 hours on the phone and go no where. I have many case numbers such as 608827513. Does anyone have a local number or does anyone have an ideas on how to help me out. Another note is because of the swap of units they dont even have me listed as Complete Care. This lappy costed me 2900$ back in 05. I never would have thought Dell would be this bad. Can someone Help me out??

So i talked to Dell and they contiune to be stupid about it. I actually dropped my laptop and it just happened to be near the end of the warranty. I then called Dell Finicial and they admit that I never bought the laptop until May 08, 2008. It wasnt repaired it was completely replaced when I first got it. SO it appears that I did not have a laptop and bought an extended warranty 1 1/2 months before I even owned the stupid thing. Today I called in got hung up on twice after waiting 20 mintues each. How can warranty exist if I didnt even purchase anything.

What exactly is your problem? Is it with PC which has problem, or working PC but with less (1-1/2 month) warranty?
If its just warranty issue I would just chill out? Or Are you just pulling a Future Shop style return for a new one?

The OP's post is a mess... OP, if you want help, you have to be clear and use line breaks!
OP bought a Dell computer that was DOA. Was told that the replacement would have a fresh warranty, but fast forward to 3 years later, turns out to not be the case.
OP feels that he has been shortchanged 1.5 months due to the initial DOA replacement.
No offense OP but if your phone skills are bad as your typing skills, then good luck. Basically, you NEED to keep emotion out of this and present the facts in a clear and intelligent way to the supervisor there. From my experience, it is NOT common for companies to reset a warranty... but it IS common for CSR's to promise that. Good luck as it does not look like you have anything in writing.

If your warranty is 3yrs, and you are without the computer for 1.5 months while it is being repaired, then you do not get any compensation for it. It would be Apr 6, 2005 to Apr 6, 2008.
Maybe the service guy told you they would extend it on the phone, but unless you got it in writing, or it was documented somewhere, then you really have no proof. If the guy didn't change the date in Dell's computer system, there is not much they can do, and you are SOL sadly.

I love Dell's warranty plan, well my experience was that when my computer was semi-defective, 1 dead pixel (and it wasnt really dead, i think a loose connection) but they let me hold on to it and whne they ship me the new one i would return it.
I recently talked to a rep and got a brand new computer!, which is awesome and it is atleast 2x or more better then my old one (based on asthetics, graphics, etc... the cpu is T7250 instead of my old T7200 which had 4mb l2 cache. The new one is an XPS too.
Anyways, I found "most" reps helpful. maybe i got lucky. But explain your problem, send them the information etc...
What is actually wrong anyways?

Here is the best answer of the thread...

When you have lemon, make lemonade...
3 way Dell Financial and your CC company. Push for a chargeback if they insist that you never bought a laptop.

Read it again. I think you missed this part:
I then called Dell Finicial and they admit that I never bought the laptop until May 08, 2008.
They didn't say that he didn't buy a laptop...there's just a dispute over the time at which the laptop was bought.
Anyway, with regards to the topic at hand. bembem already mentioned it and Cyber6 pointed it out again as well, the warranty started when you got you purchased your laptop initially. The replacement laptop you received I'm pretty sure would qualify as a replacement under warranty. If you look at it this way, technically you did get your full 3 year warranty. As for the warranty extension promised by the CSR, well...that's a whole other issue.

Yup, you are right, I misunderstood.
But the OP's writing style, punctuation, wording, etc... are just so confusing.
It threw me off when the OP said this at the end "How can warranty exist if I didnt even purchase anything."

OP, you should've recorded your talk with the Dell rep at that time. Also if you asked, you would have gotten $100 dell credit from the rep for your trouble. Most people don't ask them but if a computer arrives DOA, 9/10 rep will give you back some credit.
Also try to be calm when you talk to the rep. The way you described your situation is confusion (as proven by other members here being confused). Phone CSR get enough complaints each day so its normal for them to hang up on you if you are yelling/swearing/angry at them. Remember they work for Dell but aren't the one who sold you the comp nor the one who told you they were changing the date.
On paper, you bought the laptop the date you got it. DOA does not automatically change the date your warranty expire. If phone doesn't work, you can try online chat. The online chat reps seem to be better than the phone ones.
Also note for everyone who bought laptops from dell, you will get a brand new replacement if your laptop is less than 6 months old. After that, you will only get a brand new replacement if they do not have ref/return/etc laptop with the same specs. This has been posted in quite a few laptop forums. Also Dell seem to screw up replacements all the time (eg different specs or wrong accessories, i had to deal with that a lot of times but i still like Dell over all other... except Asus).

I'm confused. Did you purchase your unit from DFS or Dell Canada? When purchasing from DFS you're receiving balance of warranty. When you purchase additional coverage through Dell Canada (because DFS doesn't handle after sales) it's tacked on to your original warranty end date.
If it's just a few days difference between paying/receiving then Dell usually cut you a break and fix your problem. But this is 1 1/2 months so I understand why they're hesitant.

Summary (from my understanding)
OP bought a brand new laptop in April of 2005 (3 years ago) and also bought extended warranty.
Laptop Arrived DOA so OP got a replacement shipped to him.
OP asked CSR when his warranty ends because his first laptop was DOA thus its unfair for him to lose 1+ month of warranty when he did not have a working laptop. CSR agreed (but no proof).
3 years later, OP's laptop requires repair but based on the purchase date, he is out of warranty but if the replacement date is used (as he was promised), then he would still be under warranty. Dell refuses to honor that warranty.
Thats my understanding of OP's story. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

thats what I understood too. Did you drop it on purpose hoping for a new computer? since its "complete care" thing. I was planning that too before lol.

OP stated he contacted DFS. Usually, it's Dell Canada who handles consumer purchases. DFS is completely different than Dell Canada in handling term of sale & support. Actually, DFS just hands off to Dell Canada once the laptop purchase is out of their hands. - their goal is liquidating off-lease & open box, which is why I explained their balance of warranty policy.

DFS aka Dell Financing Service also does handle financing for Dell Computers. The OP just stated he contacted DFS which could mean he bought the computer via a lease. He did not say DFSdirect (which is why your post implies).
Its kinda hard to believe someone would by a laptop from DFSdirect for almost 3k (does DFSdirect even have computers selling for 3k? If they do, it has to pretty much be a M2010). Not too sure about DFSDirect since you can get a lower price @ dell.ca for a brand new one with the right rep (so i never really used DFSdirect).

You're looking to get a warranty repair on a laptop you dropped?
Was it an all-inclusive warranty then? If it wasn't, you may be out of luck whether the warranty is still in effect or not.
A trip to CT for some duck tape may be your easiest solution.
