If so, how many times?

I'm sure the going rate will be almost %100 but just wanted to hear any stories from others.

I've lost 2. First, back when I was about 12 years old parked outside the now closed arcade at Brimely and Eglinton (I went there for years without any problems or locking it up), but my laziness finally caught up to me. It was a supercyle, green one.. man I loved that bike. The thing was durable and undestructable, as it was my daily transportation through snow, trails... everywhere! From what I can see, CT still sells the same one but in blue, but from what I've heard, quality isn't as good. I think they use more plastic nowadays, as I remember alot of metal on my old one.

Another one, I had shortly after was a used Raleigh someone gave to me, that was a good one too... durable and never had any problems. Heck, I didn't even know about oiling the thing but was just like my first one, as it too was dependable. That one was stolen right out of my garage even though the door was closed!

Dammn thieves!!

will remember this forever.

i was 15 and i went to school with this black kid who was a year older. we were more or less in the same circle of friends. we frequented each others houses etc. one day he asks me to borrow my dad's power sander and i say no. next day, my bike and my power sander are gone. it was a ccm jeep 21 speed! worst day ever.

Only once. About 5 or 6 years ago, had my bike leaning against the house in the backyard, and it didn't have a lock. Someone swiped it in the middle of the night. I never called the police because it wasn't worth it...the bike was just a beater. I wouldn't have even gotten $10 for it at a garage sale.

Man, that is rough. Hopefully he got what was coming to him these past couple of years.

My bike was stolen at my high school with the lock chopped off.

One week later it was returned in the same spot unlocked.

Such a weird event, and I'm surprised it wasn't stolen for the second time.

That bike took me forever to save up for, so happy I got it back :D

I had my bike stolen once, the stupid guy came back about a week later riding it down my street into the co-op area and a lot of people on my street who knew about it saw the guy and started chasing him down (on foot) it was pretty funny, the guy dropped the bike and ran. At least I got it back.

 Dude, you might as well put a welcome sign lol. but seriously put up a "beware of dog sign" or something. that worked with my neighbour lol

Once about 6 years ago in the garage. It was opened and unattended at the time. It was a crappy tire bike so I didn't feel to bad about it.

Almost every regular bike rider I knew had their bike stolen at one point or another. That's why I use in-line skates instead. Not too much slower, and I can carry stuff in my hands too.

Dam man.. did realize how many people get their bikes stolen

My bike is so rusty. I park it at the school unlocked nobody takes it. I left it over the weekend once because I forgot it and was to lazy to get it back nobody takes it. I have it in my backyard unlocked nobody takes it. I drive by and little kids from the elementary school make fun of me... lol

I almost want it to get stolen so I can get a new one. But hey it works well and gets me around and has a very little chance of being stolen. So I am more than happy.

Never had a bike stolen but I keep my bike in the kitchen. I don't trust the garage.

never had a bike stolen. I keep mine in the basement.

Everytime I lock it up outside when I go somewhere, I remove the seat so its harder to drive off with it as its uncomfortable if you can't sit.

Plus, I never leave it on its own for too long.

I've never had my bike stolen....but then I have never lived in Toronto either!

The commuter has gotten stored in the garage, but I'm not too worried about. The other bikes get stored in the basement.

The time I was the most worried was when I lived in a shared house with people who didn't care about other people's property. I kept the bikes locked together in the basement so no one would borrow one without permission and leave it sitting unlocked, waiting to be stolen. This happened to someone else living in the same house before me.

I bought a brand new bike when I was 17 that I fully paid for working in the summer. Two weeks later it got stolen because I was too stupid to leave it unlocked for a few minutes outside a store.
I was so pissed off, I think I paid $400 for it, which was a lot of money back then for someone under 18.

Man, that one is rough. Heck yea $400 is alot. Its probably like 2500 adjusted for inflation and % of your income (just a guessitimate!). Man, there has to be a group started to buy a cheap used bike, make it a aparent target somehow for it to be stolen (and record it if possible) then nail the dammn thief.

I just moved to Toronto in the winter and I was going to pull my bike out of storage this weekend (haven't done it sooner because I had to buy a pump to fill the tires), but now I'm worried!!! Not a great bike though so hopefully no one will steal it.

i had one stolen on campus at u of t.
then i bought a new york fahgettabout it lock

either you spend a decide amount on a lock 80 bux or else you spend 20 bux on a lock and keep on replacing locks and bikes.

make a good investment and get a good new york series lock chain or ulock.

When I was 15 or 16, for my birthday I got a brand new Jamis mountain bike...costed in the $5xx-$6xx range and also got a $60 bike lock that i kept wrapped around the frame for whenever I needed to use it. After riding the bike for about 3 days, I had to stop in a Rogers video to check if they have a movie in stock, left the bike right beside the window where it was visible from within the store. Turned my back to check for a movie, bent down, phone rang, picked up and answered and talked for about 2 minutes....went out and the bike was gone forever.
Asked rogers to check their camera and everything but they said they don't work...filed police report...went around that night for about 2 hours in a car non stop...never found it.

The funny thing is, I always had a crap bike prior to that day and rode it to Rogers and left it out there whenever I went in to check/rent something. It never got stolen so it sort of became an assuring routine. But it taught me a good lesson and I'm careful of leaving anything unwatched now..

UNTIL THIS DAY I'M STILL KEEPING MY EYE OUT THOUGH.......i'll find you someday....

Yea, hearing some of these stories is infuriating, esp the nicer ones and just the inconvenience it has caused.

Assuming these bikes are taken and ridden away, has anybody thought of setting up a trap of sorts? Maybe by a used bike somewhere, lean it up against the same Rogers, or other location of the like outside a store, and just sit and video tape it.

But here's the kicker, unscrew the nut for the front wheel so if its ridden somewhere, it'll just fall off, disconnect the brakes somehow too , or slather on grease onto the brake pad so it can't stop the bike before the wheels fall of, put a nail underneath the seat or something. Sounds pretty sadistic, but would make a great youtube clip :D

My bike got stolen a couple years back. Was about $1200 new but it was already 6 years old and showing wear. Luckily insurance paid me the price new minus deductible, so it was a lot more than I could have gotten selling it used. Also, the front wheel had some kind of problem leaking air, I couldn't fix it no matter what I did, so I'm sure the f***er who stole it had fun riding/walking it from the scene of the crime.

We went out on Saturday to our shed, to get out the bikes for my wife and 7yr old.

7 year olds bike was gone.

I was some pi$$ed. This is the second time in the last few years that I have had bikes stolen from my backyard. The first time my eldest son's bike and my bike were taken. This year... a childs bike...

My shed is one of those old metal ones with rusted doors which don't shut. so we went to Rona and got some wood and hinges and made barn style doors and put a lock on it. Kijiiji found someone selling a kids bike for $20 and we went and saw it/bought it yesterday.

I am not the violent type... but if I had caught the guy trying to steal it, I would have broken his kneecaps. I'd be in jail right now.... Part of me hopes he tries it again. I want to find a way to booby trap the shed to drive a stake into his eyeball or something. (yeah.. I AM that vindictive).

I've had 2 bikes stolen way back when I used to be into mountain biking (early 90s when it seemed everyone in high school was mountain biking)

First time it was leaning against my garage, went inside for a little bit, came out...gone. 2nd time, it was locked in my garage to some crappy bike. Dad forgot to lock the garage...gone.

Not sure if it's like that now but back then, Toronto was the stolen bike capital of the world.

That's it man, I'm getting a used bike, and leaning it up against my house, or ourside a store, with Poison Ivy all over the handle bars.

That would teach whomever.

"7 year olds bike was gone."

To the above poster, that is just wrong for whomever took that. Stuff like that can be devastating psychologically to a child.
