What is the best way to get the most food in me?

1. Eat just a big breakfast and nothing else during the day
2. Dont eat anything at all during the day
3. Small meals when only when im really hungry

eat, bathroom break, repeat

you should just go and enjoy instead of thinking of eating your portion of the price

Don't drink carbonated drinks or eat any carbs like rice, noodles at the buffet. That's how I last. :)

Not eating will actually shrink your stomach, so you can't eat as much

I know one of the professional hot dog eating guys eats a few bags of ready made salad before his competitions......the lettuce expands the stomach, but since it's mostly water it's peed out fairly quickly, leaving an expanded stomach for the actual food

I dunno if that actually works or not, but maybe worth a try ;)

The buffet food tend to be very salty or too much MSG, making you thirsty. You'll just have to remain strong and stuff it down!

There was an article in the Toronto Star food section years ago about this and it said to just eat normally like any other day. If you eat too little during the day and go into the buffet really hungry, you'll just feel full more quickly than normal. The obvious would be to avoid carbonated drinks and limit yourself on the fried foods because the gas will just take up space in your system.

its all about pacing, the faster you eat, the faster and more full you will feel. eat slowly and not much of one thing in particular, enjoy the variety that is offer in a buffet

Eat some sour salad to get the digestive juices going, then all your favourite things then the expensive stuff first! Keep away from fried foods, tough to chew foods, and sweet foods till the last.

Like when I go to Franke Tomattos (not often) I eat the shrimp, then beef ribs with caesar salad first. When I go to Mongolian grill, I eat the lamb and beef items, with the light veggies first. Made the mistake once of taking the calamari and ended up chewing while my friends went through 3 plates!

"Go for the meat and not the wheat"

Drink a lot of water all day before you go to expand your stomach - so you get load up on the food later.

Avoid hot things cause your stomach will shrink to cool down the soup

3 important tips that should make you break even at the buffet.

oh yea its not a race - pace yourself.

I say quality, not quantity. Eat the more expensive things: oysters, sushi, etc! Skip the cheap stuff, like fried rice and jello.

There's ALWAYS room for Jell-O!

Hint: Go the opposite way they want you to, they want to always fill your plate with bread and rice so put that first.

Go backwards to get the good stuff!

I like the Jello idea... After all, desert is important, save room for dessert!

If you eat slowly, you give your brain more time to register and therefore you'll feel full. Therefore you should stuff yourself as much as you can and as fast as you can. I would go with the more expensive stuff first (usually less appetizing when you're full) and then go with your favorites last. Sugar fills you up fast so I would say skip the jello since jello is cheap (a box for 35-50cents gives you a nice big bow). Usually going to the toilet when you're full is a good strategy. Usually allows you to go back and eat more. Also I find you should only start drinking water when you're feeling full since you'll find water will go down remarkably effortlessly. It can be used to help you chug down those last bites that would otherwise seem impossible to swallow.

Be prepared for the after-effects of eating too much though. It only lasts around like 45 minutes though.

that's all I can think of.

If you say so, lol. I'd rather dig into the cake and ice cream. Tastes better and is worth more than jello, which I can make at home for $0.50. ;)

Yeah, I agree. Skip the cheap filler stuff and get the most bang for your buck. Load up on the meats, seafood, etc. and ignore the rice and veggies. It's not nutritionally balanced but so what? Make up for it on your next "regular" meal.

I dont eat a lot, but I love Mongolian Grill. I can usually get two-three bowls from the grill. Each tilme I go to get my stuff cooked I take two bowls to put my raw food in cause it shrinks so much when it gets cooked.
Mmmmm Mongolian Grill.... so good.

I ended up eating for about 2 hours. The trick is to talk to the other ppl as well. It helps with your pace, and keeps your mind off from being full.

I think you pick what you want instead of they 'fill' your plate.

Is that really the point of a buffet for some people; seeing how much food they can get into themselves?

I do not eat until I am ready to blow. I like to be able to breath when i'm done. The meal is more enjoyable if your not sick after stuffing your face for 2 hours.

+1. You're paying for an enjoyable experience, not just to fill yourself up (unless you're so cheap that getting the best value brings more pleasure than eating what you truly like).

When I go to buffets, I have mashed potatoes, bread, salads, and beer/pop because I feel those are important compliments to all the delicious meats and seafood. I can eat 3X more "expensive stuff" if I skipped the fillers, but that would drastically reduce the enjoyment level of my meal.

To the OP's question: If you do really want to stuff yourself, starving yourself would cause the stomach to contract, making you able to eat even less. Have meals as normal, but cut down on the portions and avoid the filling/fatty stuff, etc.

I once went to a buffet with a family, the parents are FOB, the kids are CBC.
Anyway, the kid came back to the table with a full plate of french fries. LOL
The father was pretty mad about that, mumbling something like 15 dollars of french fries! That was funny :cheesygri

Bingo, you hit the nail on the head. People often say you should pace yourself. Ignore that, scientifically you're better off stuffing as much as you can as fast as you can (if you're trying to get the most 'value').

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, which I respect; because of that, I won't make an ignorant comment (although tempting) like "it's people like you who deserve to suffer for your actions" or "you are a bad person because you're wrong". There's just no basis to those arguments and it becomes a personal attack (instead of a constructive response with reason), thus rendering it irrelevant. Freedom of speech and free will is what makes our country such a diverse, interesting, and healthy place to live in, where we are allowed to be more open-minded and make decisions based on reason/instinct as opposed to strictly ONLY following standards (in which case, we've completely lost our identity). Standards and rules are based on the popular or majority view; my belief is that since we are born "good" (without intention to hurt), the popular view is usually "what's good for us", but not ALL of the times. Saying that, I'd just like to share some of my thoughts about buffets which I wrote about in another thread:

As a child, I would love to go to buffets for the variety and quantity but the older I get, the more I appreciate the quality of food. Example: Isn't that chocolate truffle cake that you had in France extra special because of how rare the occasion is, the fresh local ingredients that can not be found elsewhere, or how hard one has to work to obtain it? Would the same cake taste as good if you had it every day? Possibly. Would you enjoy it as much as you did back in France with the same nostalgic or special feeling? Probably not. It's not entirely our fault to want everything because our current environment provides such luxuries at a price that is realistically obtainable.

Most of us who go to buffets, whether or not we agree, are unconsciously driven by greed. Let's face it, how many times do we go to buffets and end up eating WAY more than we need to and consequently, feel the physical and even emotional pain that comes with this kind of behaviour? For those who don't think it's greed, isn't anything in the context of more than we NEED, excessive and therefore greedy. Now since the amount of food "needed" to be consumed varies from person to person, you can't put a discrete number on say, this person ate this amount of X and so forth, thus they are greedy. However, if one feels "bloated", chances are they've simply eaten more than they need. As humans, we all have greed, just to different magnitudes, because in many way it's essential to our survival. However, too much of anything can be detrimental. I think that by truly understanding why we need certain things, we will be able to tone down our desire to want more.

For those who argue that greed is subjective, let's look at the more practical long-term effects associated with over-eating. Not just buffets, but having a prolonged habit of over-eating in general influences a number of significant issues such as weight gain (health), depression (mental), over-consumption (environmental), excessive spending (economical), and wasting of food (moral). The only issue that is debatable in regards to how over-eating directly affects us is moral. As everyone differs in character, values, and beliefs, an argument made for or against moral is irrelevant and indefinite in this case. Even then, there are more factors that contribute to the overall negative impact of over-eating than positives. I remember a few instances at buffets where people were vomitting in the washroom as a result of eating too much. Now as a kid, I felt confused and somewhat disturbed. Now when I look back and think about it, it's actually quite funny that you see these people, whose initial purpose was to satisfy themselves, end up torturing themselves and feeling like s**t (for a lack of a better word) just because they were greedy. I mean what's the point of paying for something for the sake of enjoyment, where the inevitable eventual result is something that you will either regret or be unhappy about. If money is the objective towards your decision to eat at buffets, then isn't it economically more efficient to eat at home in the first place? Now if money is not the object, but variety; since one can not possibly eat everything, isn't it more satisfying to eat somewhere with a small selection of stuff you really enjoy? Ultimately, less is really more.

My philosophy is that the less worries you have, the more happy you are. Think about it, aren't the happiest moments in life the ones when you are care-free. This is not something we can control at all times, however, it's something we can strive for to reduce our worries, thus, living a healthier and happier life. I guess with all of THAT said, my point is (assuming our basic survival needs are already met) aren't we all better off with less (?).
