Hi, I recently purchase this set :

http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444328 7994&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396674301&bmUID=1209332295221

It seems as if the tools are "lower quality" than the mastercraft maximum pieces you would buy individually... for example, I've used a few coworkers wrenches, they're all the maximum branded ones, they all just bought what they needed separately, theirs have a product number and "mastercraft maximum" molded into the handles of the wrench... some of the ones in the set i got, dont have product numbers and only have the logos laser etched onto the tools... the packaging highlighted the laser etching...

also, my set was packed incorrectly i have two 4 mm deep sockets instead of 1 4mm and 1 5/32"... what to do?

lastly, my case was crappy from the second i opened it
the handle pops out when you open the set... and one of the latches flew off when i opened it the 2nd time, caused a bit of a mess! You think CT will let me swap the whole thing?

what do you expect from mastercraft?
they are low grade tools

why do you think they are lower quality than your co-workers? because they dont have the name etched on every single piece? chances are the ones in the set are slightly different than what they sell individually

if you arent happy, i would return it, and spend the extra money to buy a quality brand

For the incorrect socket, I would simply go to CT and tell them what happened. Chances are they will simply exchange it for the correct one.

Why do you feel that they are of a lower quality then your friends? It could be that the tools on the lower end of the quality control get sold in the big sets whereas the higher end get sold individually. It happens with other manufacturers and products so it could happen with CT tools. In the end however, if they are the same brand then they should be of comparable quality. You'll never be able to ensure exact quality when mass producing something. I have Mastercraft tools at home and Snap-on, Westward, Ultra Pro and many other name brand tools at work. Mastercraft are just as good in most cases and a lot cheaper.

I have this exact set and I cannot believe you say it is low quality. This set is great. I've used the normal mastercraft at my old place of work and comparing those to this set. The maximum brand is leaps and bounds better.

So, no complaints from me about the maximum mastercraft

Low quality? Maybe if you put it into a professional environment (mechanic's shop) and the guy next to you is using Snap On/Mac tools....

I have a few Mastercraft (Regular and maximum stuff) and it does the job just fine.

I have a set of mastercraft wrenches, from a couple years ago... everything on the tool is engraved/stamped onto it... including a product number... I feel like the maximum set has a lower finish than if purchased individually, also alot of the pieces already have small scratches on em (maybe thats just being picky)

anyhow I am trying an exchange today. Need a new case and the sockets inside are a bit mixed up. Maybe this was a bit of a bad batch or something... will report back later today!

Yea, they used to engrave/stamp the logos and part numbers on them. But now they are using the cheaper laser etching, and even silkscreen on their screwdriver handles. This is worse because it rubs off over time. Even though they say the laser etching is supposed to last, it doesn't if it gets scratched.
