My wife decided to test the side of her foot against the corner of the TV shelf. She ended up with a pretty nasty cut and a small blood trail on the carpet. What is the best way to remove the blood stain (OxyClean kind of things, or some effective trick with household stuff? Hiding it with other items is not really an option with the way we configured our furnitures...

I confess... the body had been concealed. I just need to clean up the blood stain, alright?

Hydrogen peroxide works well for removing blood. The fresher it is the better it seems to remove it. Cleaned up some stains in our friends van when the dog cut his foot really well. (dog was fine) Our friend was impressed about how well it did as she didn't know about using peroxide to clean up blood.

Dear Tide:

I am writing to say what an excellent product you have! I've used it all of my married life, as my Mom always told me it was the best. Now that I am in my fifties I find it even better! In fact, about a month ago, I spilled some red wine on my new white blouse. My inconsiderate and uncaring husband started to belittle me about how clumsy I was, and generally started becoming a pain in the neck. One thing led to another and somehow I ended up with his blood on my new white blouse! I grabbed my bottle of Tide with bleach alternative, and to my surprise and satisfaction, all of the stains came out! In fact, the stains came out so well the detectives who came by yesterday told me that the DNA tests on my blouse were negative and then my attorney called and said that I was no longer considered a suspect in the disappearance of my husband.

What a relief! Going through menopause is bad enough without being a murder suspect! I thank you, once again, for having a great product.

Well, gotta go, have to write to the Hefty bag people.

Made my evening. What an inspiring letter, I bet someone would use it.

Enzyme cleaners like Folex (sold in carpet depts, hardware stores, some grocery stores) or Nature's Miracle (which is sold at pet stores) are great for stains like this. The enzymes eat any organic material so stains pretty much just vanish without a lot of work and are safe on most materials. They even work on old dried stains.

I knew I will get something good, and witty, from you folks!

I did think about hydrogen peroxide but I am also worried that it might bleach the carpet as well so I wanted to see if there's alternative. The carpet colour is somewhat on the darker side so a slight bleaching action on the carpet would probably create a patch.

Read about the Tide-to-go pen thing yesterday. Might give it a go and see. Failing that, we'll get the specialty carpet cleaner like Dustbunny mentioned. Thanks again.

If anyone has suggestion on how to dispose a body, give me a shout!

If it is a fresh stain try hydrogen peroxide otherwise Folex works really well. You can get it for about $12 at Home Depot in a white bottle with green writing on it.

Try rinsing in ice cold water first. At least I find that works well with clothes.

Be careful with the Tide pen. It contains a mild bleach; in big spills it will bleach the fabric.

Being a serial killer, as well as suffering from "uncontrollable flailing syndrome" anytime I am holding a liquid of any sort, I have tried quite a few different cleaning/stain removal products.

Hands down best luck so far has been a product called Winning Colours (http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?D=949122&Ntt=949122&catalogId=10051&langId=-15&storeId=10051&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx=mode+matchall&recN=112660&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber). I've also seen it at Walmart, and other places.

Sadly, I am almost excited by the prospect of a new sp(k)ill to see if I can't best the product. It's also worth noting that it's "eco-friendly" so no worries about getting it on your hands, downside being that it has an odd pungent odor, almost like aged banana's.
