Got one sitting on the deck. It's very heavy even for two men (in order to take it down the stairs). I *think* it is metal judging by the weight of it compared to the acrylic bath tub same size. Can I bring it somewhere in West End GTA as scrap metal for a few $?
Or is there some company who comes and picks it up for free? They need to send two men though.

have you tried selling it? If it's one of those with the claw feet it'll be worth a few bucks

I am upset with the habitat store here in St. Catharines. They were very very picky with what they took, not interested at all in the stuff after we got done with our bathroom reno. Yeah, its not overly fasionable stuff, but even if they priced the tub at $15 they'd still make a profit (seeing as the tub was free). They also weren't interested in our ceiling tile, wall tile nad a host of other items from our renos.

Are all restores like this?

typically their stores have limited space, and they dont consider it a "just drive up and drop off"
they are picky because of this
they only want to take things that they know they will sell almost immediatly (ie either brand new, or almost brand new)
an old pastell bathtub or old odd coloured tile would probably sit there forever even if they were to price it at 1$...almost nobody wants these sort of things

not saying your tub was pastell or your tiles were odd coloured, but im just making the point

Habitat for humanity has been getting very pricy. I used to find bargains there, but now they are kinda pricing themselves out of the market. They were selling a nu tone exhaust fan for $150 bucks. it was oily and had a major dent in one corner. I ended up buying a new one for $200. The one in vancouver really knows how to charge the bucks.

Yup, I understand Habitat being picky (BTW - the tub was kinda pink....but the tiles were just a plan jane brown, and very reusable, but they told me they were only interested in new tiles), but I think they are sometimes too picky between new and old. There's a lot of junk at the restore here, and I'm sure most of it came in "new" but (for example) some of the "new" tubs are in piss poor condition and they're still asking $80 for them.

Regardless, that's how they run their buisness sometimes it works for them (there has been great stuff in the store in the past too) and sometimes it doesn't. I know I shouldn't have turned it into a rant, it should just be a warning to the OP that there's a good chance that the restore wouldn't be interested.

You can try to give it away on freecycle, but your best bet is to try and sell it for scrap. Maybe post it on the freecycle board as potential scrap to increase your chances of someone taking it.

If you arent selling it, just stick it by the curb. Someone will come pick it up. With the price of metal these days it'll be gone within a day.
