Blah....I just got the flyer yesterday, and went to Best Buy 15 minutes ago today....didn't look @ the dates. First time that has ever happened to me...quite embarrassing when the cashier brings over the current flyer and says "uuuh....where is this deal??" and not being able to find it. Wow.

On the bright side, the best buy I went to had 50+ copies of GTP5 and at least 20 DS3's.

I am not much of a racing fan though, but the controller is very enticing to replace the sixaxis that I have, giving me two ds3 for the household.

I wonder if FS will be offering this deal also (either this week, or next). I don't have a BB here, but I would buy GT5P for $10.... (I paid $50 for my one DS3) Usually they don't let me Pricematch BB since there is no local one [without adding random X amount of shipping (usually $15+).]

is it nationwide?

My local BB (Richmond, BC) still dun have the game in stock.

Gosh they are so poorly run and so slow. All the other lower mainland BB got it already yesterday.

Same thing happened when MLB 08 the show was out, they are so god damn slow on actually putting it on shelve.

Apr 17th, 2008, 01:48 PM
Well, 59.99 for DS3 and the 'glorified demo' that is GT4P is better than 54.99 and no game at all (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10100677&catid=24378)

Still, a deal like this, I'm sure the actual cost to Best Buy on one or both of those 2 items must be a lot less than what the final sticker price would have you believe...

I think I'll have to jump in on this. Thanks OP!

Just wondering how this'll work out when the full game rolls out, considering that they're having both a downloadable version + retail disc, would you essentially be "upgrading" to the full version or paying it in full.

Either way, I don't mind since... the DS3 is already worth the price of admission lol.

you don't understand what a demo is do you?

Yes I do.. do you? Here is a definition

To demonstrate a product or prototype. A far more effective way of inducing bugs to manifest than any number of test runs. A demo version, can refer either to an early version of a program which can be used for demonstration purposes as long as the operator uses exactly the right commands and skirts its numerous bugs, deficiencies, and unimplemented portions, or to a special version of a program (frequently with some features crippled) which is distributed at little or no cost to the user for enticement purposes.

I guess this deal makes GT5P a great deal, since $5 for the game is actually worth it considering if you were planning to buy DS3 anyways. But $39.99 for GT5P is highway robbery.

Sure there might be alot of content, and how much are they going to charge for the full game once it's released? $100??? I think not... but I guess that's how much some people will be paying when they buy the prologue for 40 and another 70 for the final version.

Hardly highway robbery...the online play will certainly appeal to some people; 16 racers online at one time? Hell ya.

No it's not a full game. It has 6 tracks, 60 cars and is missing tons of features the real game is supposed to have when it comes out in 2012. GT5 is a rip off and whats up with the 6gb 20 minute install just to play it!

Nice to see a racing "simulation" that doesn't even do damage to cars, way to go Sony!

SoulTracer
Apr 17th, 2008, 02:36 PM
From IGN

"While it's true that the amount of content pales in comparison to what we'll see with the full GT5 release, Prologue still includes roughly 70 cars and a half-dozen tracks, a couple of which feature alternative routes that drastically change their layout, bumping the number of "unique" courses closer to 10, and that's not counting reverse routes.

Content-wise, this means you're getting more cars than some competing racers out there (such as Need for Speed ProStreet), though the track count is certainly less. So what it comes down to is whether or not you love the Gran Turismo racing experience. If do you, Prologue is a no-brainer of a purchase and you won't be able to put the controller down."

Why are we arguing over something as little as this? A great deal is a great deal!! if you want a DS3 cheap you got one, if you wanted to grab GT5P then you can do it, it's WIN WIN we all win, who cares whether it's a demo or not? a demo from a "GAMER'S" perspective is just a way to try before we buy, and from a business standpoint since the game won't be released till sometime next year, why not let the faithful GT5 fans get a glimpse of what's to come and turn in a small profit from it. I am sure any gamer here would definitely pay(i know i would) to play a FFXIII demo, or a MGS4 demo if the game wouldn't be released for an undetermined amount of time

Actually the DS3 is $54.99 now at some Zellers locations, 2 out of 3 locations here have increased it to $54.99, I am assuming they are all likely going to increase soon. Thus if you have not bought a DS3 for $50 yet (and the Zellers near you have upped the price), then this is more or less an "Extended Demo" (since it isn't the full version, but probably a fairly large chunk of it) for $5 (or free since FS/RCSS sell the DS3 for $60). You can probably play it until you are bored of it and sell it for at least $5 (meaning you are out nothing really). Which is why I am planning on trying for it at FS (assuming I can get away without the shipping fees being too crippling).

One man's garbage is another man's treasure. I could laugh at you for buying a Habs jersey for $175, but hey, it's your cash and your entitled to do with it as you please. Give others the same entitlement.

Think about the replay value of this game.
You keep looking at the only '60 cars, 6 tracks' aspect

What about Burnout Paradise? There is less than 60 cars and only 1 BIG track. That game is $60.

And games like Heavenly Sword, you paid $59.99 and you got a really short game.

So to me, this is an EXTREMELY hot deal.

I have to admit that I've thought about it paying that much for the jersey... but in the end I didn't, I would rather spend my money in something else... just like the same thought I've put for going against purchasing the prologue for $39. I guess it paid off, and I can get it for $5 now :)

GT5:P has events, and btw~ for those who dont have the game yet, you cant load it up and try out all 60 cars... you need to buy them first.. so you start off w/ 1 car.. do the races and buy more as you need them per event..(you need credits to purchase a car, and you need a car to do anything)

Also thier is the online way to make credits(ingame money) to buy cars..

So far I have 3 cheapo cars QQ

also as stated in other locations on this site, thier is like a 20min install...and for those who want to go online and dont have 2.3.. thier is that firmware update aswell.. i havnt done any of the online play tho..

Burnout Paradise has far more reply value with all the different events and online modes, that comparison is like apples to oranges!

Not at all.

-Both Racing Games
-Both Have Racing Online Play
-Both Have Events

One difference that I can think of is :

GT5P : To obtain more cars, you must buy them.
BP : You just crash into the fancy car you see, and you've unlocked it.

So really, GT5 has a more of a replay value if you ask me, Prologue or not.

I just don't see where the apples & oranges apply.

@ Soultracer, I would hope everyone knows that you have to unlock all 60 cars, just like any GT game, you need money to buy a car, just like real life and that's where "The Real Driving Simulator" comes into play.

Just to upgrade the demo fire :-)

http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/37000/98/

I like the title.

First of all, Prologue is a demo version of the GT5 that is (hopefully) to come (before the PS4). Selling a demo version is somewhat unheard of, especially for $40.

Christ this is like an xbox vs ps3 fanboy fest. Just shut up about whether GT5P is a "demo" or not and be happy at the great value of the deal. Like others have said, if you don't like the deal... don't reply in the thread! I'm sure there is somewhere else you can go argue about it - try the ps3 forums or something.

As for me, I know I'll be up bright and early to buy this package tomorrow.

i believe its 54.99 or 59.99 cant remember but its still a steal.

To someone who wanted to return the controller after purchase, that might not work, because the receipt will list the controller as 20 plus tax.

Like if I buy prologue, not open it, and return it but still keep my 20 dollar controller.

Guys I still find it stupid to pay 40 dollars for what may seem like a demo.

I guess this deal makes GT5P a great deal, since $5 for the game is actually worth it considering if you were planning to buy DS3 anyways. But $39.99 for GT5P is highway robbery.

highway robbery? lol

i'm quite shocked then... at how many RFDers that jumped on the Dell Entertainment DoDs for GT5P priced at $30...

Sure there might be alot of content, and how much are they going to charge for the full game once it's released? $100??? I think not... but I guess that's how much some people will be paying when they buy the prologue for 40 and another 70 for the final version.

prbly $70, like the usual next-gen game new-release price.

$40 is >1/2 the cost of a new-release game, just for a "demo"... i know what you're trying to say....

surprised it took 5 pgs for s/b to mention PM deal...

FS $40 GT5P - http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10075769

PM both for $56.50 :D

Definitely not. It's called a bundle for a reason. If everyone did the same thing, they would be losing money.

This way, you're buying both so at least they will probably still make some profit.

It is not practical. It doesn't make sense to have a shorter price match window than the return's. What stop us from returning the item and repurchasing it at the lower price if the time falls in that "gap"?

well, there is a metal gear solid ps3 coming out in june. it will be gunmetal grey and presumably there will be controllers available in that colour, though likely somewhat limited. I don't think white is available in north america.

There are actually 3 colors out in Japan: Silver, White and Black. NA only gets black as usual and hopefully the other colors show up. I have an imported White and it looks special compared to the mess of blacks I have lying around lol.

There is the Gunmetal colored DS3 but no idea if that is only going to be bundled with MGS4 or sold separately. Knowing how good NA gets shafted on color schemes, I wouldn't be surprised to see us not get any Gunmetal DS3's but only in the bundle or through import.

The trick is to select your store as soon as you add the GT5 to your cart (i.e. you should have your choice of stores to pick up from) at least from my annoying experience.
I was gonna skip this but for the combo price, way too good to pass up esp since GT5 probably won't be out till late 2009 if they even make that date.

If they're charged as separate items, what's to stop you from going back and returning the game to a clueless employee. They may just look at the game and not even care about the controller on the receipt.

YEs it mentions a bundle, says promotion 59.99 for GT5p and and Dualshock , it is pretty obvious. Btw there were not a lot of DS3 left at best buy in anjou

if I purchased this and returned my dell pre-order with this receipt later, would i get the 39.99 credit back?

No, as I believe they would sell it as a bundle. What would stop people from buying this and returning the game immediately afterwards (if they didn't want the game)?

Successful PM at FutureShop for GT5P and DS3, however they didn't want to.

I had printed off a BestBuy Cart showing the two items and the discount. I even had some handwritten math on the side with FS price difference and what the final price will be with 10% discount.

First the cashier said she'd need approval because they are already giving GT5P free with a PS3 purchase this week. So I wait 10 mins for a thumbs up from some manager across the store...

Then she rings it up but forgets the 10% off, I said it should be less for a price guarantee. She says 'Oh FS doesn't do that for BestBuy because they own us". I said.. well it's true they own you but it doesn't mean I don't get the price discount. Then I read off the HUGE sign above that says "We will match ANY compeditors advertised price by 10% of difference". She asks for approval again...

5 mins later and she's so flustered she can't do basic math. She rings up GT5P for 36.09 and DS3 for 17.99 for 54.08 + tax. Pretty good deal I'd say, but why is it always a Hassle to get FS to approve these discounts. Sigh.

Now I'm installing.. damn, my first PS3 game that needs install, that's annoying.

IME, for bundle deals and freebie items, they always have one price for the bundle pkg, and there's a promo code stated on receipt to indicate some offer #

so yes, specifically done to prevent ppl f/ returning one or the other.

it's really sad how many ppl on here think of doing exactly that... no deal is ever "good enough" for them.

you should've got just the DS3 for ~$16.50. FS/BB both have GT5P for $40, so the price discrepancy only lies b/t the prices of the DS3.

anyway, you got it for a lil cheaper overall :)

if the selling price is $40 (which seems to be the price everywhere, altho i wouldn't be surprised if BBV had an inflated reg. price), their PPed price is of course less than that, which means at MAX the TIV will be $20

That is complete crap. I PMed this set with no problems at FS customer service. That's really too bad. Which store was this?

All the excuses they gave were not valid. BB is a competitor to them, at least officially, it is local (product is available online for shipping anywhere), and if it is considered the same family of stores, double the reason they should match the price.

Wow went out around lunch today and some of you guys already cleared out some places of DS3s. Had to drive pretty far to get to a FS that had them but like expected they didn't want to do the 10% difference. Funny thing is every FS already knew about the BB deal b/c ppl were matching it all morning.

Had some trouble as usual with the process but with alot of time, it was ironed out. Ended up being able to get the 10% later on too, but IMO a few bucks isn't worth the hassle. It's a promo deal anyways so FS for once, is right if they refuse to give the 10% difference.

To those still looking good luck.

no guarantee that it will be there, it can show up as "in stock" in store on-line, but at the actual store they may have already sold out. you need to wait until you get the confirmation e-mail, which I understand the store sends out confirming that they've taken your item off the shelf. I understand there have been some stories of people loosing stuff that they had purchased for ISPU that some clerk ended up selling to someone else, but I think that is harder when they put the ISPU stuff in a separate area/cabinet. Their problem is that the items isn't actually sold until you come into the store to pay for it and pick it up. If you decide you don't want it, it will sit for 3 days off the shelf, and then they will reshelf it.

if you call HO, they'll tell you that FS/BB are considered as "separate entities" and hence they're deemed as competitors. 110% PM applies regardless of sister store or not.

however, they are right about BB not local. if you don't have a local BB store around, i'd say you're pretty much SOL on the PM. you CAN consider to ask for a PM against BB.ca stock, but that may require add.'al s/h charges on top of BB's sale price, before PM.

I don't care that you consider FF to be the same company unless you have it in writing because under the law they're separate legal entities.

The manager gave me the 10% difference on my price match.

Picked up the deal at the BestBuy next to the Cambie bridge.

The controllers aren't stocked on the shelves. You have to go the cashier and ask for it there. They had a couple boxes full of controllers and games when I was there.

for me (like a month ago) they changed it to 3 days in the email first(before they changed the order status) and a few weeks later, i realized they changed the order status to 3 days too, so now both email and order status says 3 days

it used to be 5 days.

i think it was recently that they changed it to 3. what's weird is the email conf. still says 5, despite that if you check your order status it'll say 3 (if ISPU fulfilled)

i haven't done ISPU (one that was successfully reserved) for a while now, so things may have finally changed over.

my recent ISPUs for HD movies were cancelled, so i didn't bother w/ checking for # days for grace period allowed for ISPU.

last time i actually went for ISPU (successfully reserved) --- can't recall if it was FS or BB --- was prbly 2+ mths ago. and at that time, i've noticed the discrepancy b/t order status saying 3 days, while email still saying 5.

i would've raised a stink about it if i came in on the 5th day (after ISPU fulfilled) and my reserved item(s) weren't there.

Yup....be persistant and don't take any of their BS. To stop all this non-sense I sent an e-mail to FS HQ outlining their PM policies and specifically asked the question regarding 110% PM with Bestbuy understanding that Futureshop operates under the Bestbuy umbrella company. FS HQ replied yes they do PM 110% Bestbuy in that e-mail.

I printed out the e-mail and paid about a $1 to have it laminated. I keep it my car and take it with me when I have to PM something at FS with the Bestbuy flyer.

When they start with the BS, I just pull out the e-mail and always make a point that I had it laminated due to the crap I've been getting on PMs from Futureshop. They have no comeback for that.

After work I'm off to Futureshop to PM this deal.

I got mine from FS too. They only matched the price but not to give the extra 10% off the diff. Their excuse was that BB was not selling them as a bundle, but only a special offer if you purchase GT5P. So they would only match the offer but won't beat it.

Got my bundle from BB Bay & Dundas today around lunch time.

When I first asked the employee where they are, he told me 'sold out'. Unfortunately for him, I used that excuse to avoid customers all the time when I used to work at BB myself - I can tell when an employee really knows its sold out, or is simply squirming to get out of going to the warehouse :D:D

Sure enough, they had 6 or so left. There was so few because 75% of their total DS3s were (shockingly) reserved for ISPU customers.. Figures - the only time ISPU works is when I actually go to the store b/c I didn't trust, and therefore didn't use ISPU.

squirming to get out of going to warehouse to check stock?

it's not really that much to ask for to check stock back there, is it?

so you can tell when they're lieing or not, eh? ;) well, you can also prove that by asking another CSR to check their compy for their store's inventory of that item, which would reveal whether or not they were actually lieing in the 1st place =)

just got back from FS (btw, Warden and Eglinton still has quite a few controllers, right next to several GT5 copies), and employee told me they don't price beat a "packaged deal".

I asked for that in writing, and she told me to come back to talk to head management for that later. Looks like I won't be able to help out anyone in Markham who missed out on this deal. I reserved 4 sets for pick-up and somehow they gave away 3 of them and one of them had a Sixaxis instead of a Dualshock. Talk about unorganized. GT5:P has a $13 TIV at EB and the Sixaxis has a $10 TIV. I'm guessing the TIV for GT5:P at BBV should still be pretty high. The deal is great and all but it's a little sad considering they didn't even update the rumble technology.

otherwise, it's all BS to me

their website does say

"The advertised item must be sold through an authorized dealer located in Canada. The terms and conditions of “Get it for less, guaranteed™” are subject to change without notice."

BUT such change must accompany some sort of HO approval. if no such proof exists, then it sounds like to me they're just makin' up these "new rules" to weasel out of PMing.

as i said before, max $20 TIV at BBV, but likely lower than that b/c their PPed price (RV) will not be $40 if their reg. price for GT5P BNIB is $40 (like it should be)

Yeah, I was trying to fight against hoarders who try to turn a profit from these kind of deals. Sell for cost and earn PC points plus a few RFD ratings ftw. But alas, 'twas not meant to be. Their limit 1 per customer policy should be reinforced better. The guy who served me went to get my 4 and came back saying they didn't have any left. He was definitely willing to sell me 4 sets if they still had the stock.

well, thing is, i don't believe the flyer mentioned anything about limits...

Thanks a bunch op, now i have 1 more ds3 to add to the 2 i got from hk. Thinking of getting one more and sell my sixaxis so i'll have 4 ds3, However are there even any 4 player games out on ps3 that warrant the purchase of 4 controllers?). I can only think of 4 player warhawk ^_^ Hopefully they get more stock soon since this is a hot price on the ds3. I picked up the bundle today from BB.

I was shocked to see how long the install of GT5 was. To my surprise, there was an update for the game and that took even longer. By the time it was all done, I had to leave for work.

The DS3 controller feels noticeably heavier but with the same dimensions. It feels better in the hand than the sixaxis.

Bought the bundle and sold my sixaxis locally for $20.

Happy about the deal on a DualShock3

However...
I'm disappointed with GT5P. The online is totally useless. Has anyone been able to have an online race? no matchmaking.. holy smokes thats stupid. I was unaware before purchase that the online would suck/not work.

I was so spoiled by the 360 launch game PGR3 way back in the winter of 2005. Every time I play it (still to this day) I wonder why other racing games can't have as good of a online and menu interface as that game had. Even PGR4 was a backwards step for game flow/menu design.

Oh and I know online can be done well on the PS3 because CoD4 works every time.

Rant over.

Did BB increase the online price of the DS3?
It comes up as $24.99 in the bundle price instead of $20.

The new controller will take about an hour to charge. As others have said, GT5 will need about 30 minutes worth of installing / updating and you'll be good to go.

While I was waiting for the install, changed the input on my tv and watched one of the extra features on my Blade Runner HD DVD set. I love technology.

Only played GT5 for a half hour, graphics are beautiful, the handling does not seem to be as realistic feeling as GT4, but it might just be me.

Did BB increase the online price of the DS3?
It comes up as $24.99 in the bundle price instead of $20.
I checked earlier today and I could have swore the price was $59.99 for the bundle. Now it shows as $64.99.
What's up with that?
I guess I'll have to go instore for this deal.

it's saying $25 for mee too:confused:

There are some newb settings like active steering and some other settings that make the cars easier to drive, you can turn those off and it makes things a lot more interesting.

Just order it anyway and call them after confirmation change to the correct value.

If it's for instore pickup, they won't be able to do anything, but call them all the same.

Make sure they note it on your case and when you go to pickup tell them that the total is incorrect and that they may call CS to verify. :)

i think ALL RFDers should do ^that :D

I picked up what appeared to be the last DS3 at the Richmond BB at around 1030am this morning after grabbing a set at FS.

You gotta send me a copy of that e-mail! Please! :-0

Please have this email posted on the RFD main page! :D

Don't know where this should be posted, but here is the e-mail reply from FS that FS PM 110% with BB. I created the same e-mail (switched BB with FS) and send it to BB HQ (which is the same building as the FS HQ in Burnaby, BC). And what do you know I got the same response.....well duh didn't you know Futureshop is Bestbuy!

Not to mention the last set they held for me was a Sixaxis controller, not even a Dualshock 3. I was literally 2 seconds away from missing out on this deal, had to go and grab the last DS3 off the shelf. There were two other people who saw me take it and were like NOOOOOO!

perhaps you could've asked for a RC for the DS3?

---------

I was just at BBV (Royal Oak Calgary location) and they take GT5P for $28 trade-in value! I traded both my copies in which is pretty much a brand new game right there.

that's actually shocking to hear.

if they resell it for $40 PPed, that's not 100% profit :-0

You'll have a receipt with

DS3 - 20

So, return the two GT5P and you have two DS3 for 40.

Depends on how the cashier did it. Of course FS wouldn't have it listed as a bundle as they were not offering the bundle. BB SHOULD have listed both items as a bundle to prevent people from trying to get the DS3 for 20 while returning the game. So if you got a casher that wasn't paying attention or scanned it wrong, it might have appeared as single items instead of a bundle. If I was BB, I would have given cashiers a separate barcode to scan to indicate a bundle instead of scanning the actual packing of the game and DS3.

JnJosh

Netcruzer
Apr 19th, 2008, 11:21 AM
just wait a bit, a major patch is coming

These features are also confirmed (credits to Cyborg_Mantis for posting this on the GT5 board)
(original source: http://gran-turismo.co.kr/bbs/zboard.php?id=news&no=69):
- Online garage
- Head to head racing
- Time trial
- Track day
- B-spec race
- License test
- Drift contest
- Tuning/setting features
- Friend list
- Lobby
- Voice chat
- Bulletin board
- Spectator mode
- Team builder
- Club builder
- Color/livery editor
- Number plate editor
- Race builder tool
- Photo album

Wouldn't those be features for the final GT5 game, not Prologue?

GT5P is fine for short plays of offline racing, but advertising 16 player online racing is BS, good luck ever getting that to work as it plays now. Hasn't this game already been out in Japan and UK for months? How can the online be broken still.. the game had to be installed, and have a lengthy patch applied before I could play. I'm so glad I bought the blu-ray so I can resell it later. I don't think I'll be playing it a lot unless they fix the menus and online stuff.

Does EBGames price match this bundle too?

you could try, but you better do it soon.

some stores actually call to check for stock (yes, for those who didn't know, EBG does stock verifications before PMing, even tho they don't have a PM policy written in stone anywhere)

they may also decline the PM if the price gap is >$20 (which is the case here)

errr... YMMV i guess.

well, fact is, will not show it as bundled simply cuz they don't have the same promo as BB

i'm not entirely sure about this, but for bundle deals, sometimes the cashiers have to enter some code in their system to indicate a bundle sale... while at times i've also seen a simple scan of the items and the bundle deal comes up "automatically" ....

Ye sometimes. What I think it really is though is: Scan Item A and Scan Item B. Item B causes a reduction in price after Item A. It happens sometimes when you go to the grocery stores. Buy 2 for 4 or something like that or at HMV for the 2 for 30, 2 for 40, 2 for 50. This deal could be seen as a 2 for 60 deal. I have no idea how the system would be set up in this case so.

A few years ago when BB had that 120degree PS2 Logitech Racing Wheel on sale for $29.99 (from $129.99) I was able to PM at EB but that was back when I frequently visited and was on friendly terms with a few of the employees and manager. Oh well.

I think hoarders sums up this little tidbit perfectly. I mean 59.99 for a game you can flip for 40 and a controller you can flip for 60. That is a no brainer for profit. After taxes and all, you make out with about 30. You have enough of those and you can easily walk out with enough. It is sad but true. There are people out there who truly wanted this bundle for what it was but some people can only see profit.

I live in downtown Toronto, but had to go up to the Yonge + Eglinton Future Shop store to PM this deal. They have tons of GT5 and a handful DS3s.

They wouldn't beat Best Buy's price, but I figured just getting in on this deal is good enough. On the receipt, they rang both things together as a single charge of $59.99 (they've caught on).

Best Buy at Dundas + Bay was also giving raincheques for this deal - that's another option, since you get 30 days to redeem it.

I went to FS on Granville saturday at 5pm and the stupid girl at the customer service counter told me there was a big discussion on friday about price matching BB on the deal. i unknowingly bought and opened my GT5 from FS on friday, so I was asking if they would give me a raincheck at least for the DS3 for $20. She said no because one, BB is out of stock, and two, they don't match bundle pricing. I'm sooo freakin' ticked off at FS and their stupid made up policies that seem to change from one store to the next, from one day to another. What do you guys think? should I try going to another FS? Sent spouse to FS for PM, receipt shown $19.99 for DS3 + $36.99 GT5P + tax, WTF. That is only 108.5% PM. Later on, FS said BB = FS, can't do 110% PM. Too bad I was not there, WTF is this 108.5% PM.
i can tell you what that "108.5% PM" is... it's the result of a lazy/incompetent CSR that's unable to calc. the correct 110% PB :cheesygri
I got the 10% difference back + the original 8.5%, not as good as darklord700's $36 + tax.

I was unable to refund GT5P alone due to "package" even the receipt shown the items individually. CS issued another receipt for DS3 only, -$19.99 then +$16.49. Basically, I got PMed at 118.6%

DS3 $19.99
GT5P $ 36.99
DS3 -$19.99
DS3 +$16.49
==========
+ tax = $60.43

wow, lots of bad feedback on GT5....
my copy is just sitting there unopened, debating if I should keep it.

I probably would get bored too, as I only like arcadey racers (pgr4), but I'm a graphics nut, so I usually like to have a game that shows off my system on HDTV....

but is it even worth it for the graphics alone??

I think it's definitely worth it. If you're a car racing fan, and GT fan in particular, then this is a no brainer. It's got a ton of cars and 6 reversible tracks - all gorgeous. And the DS3 works great with it. Based on the few hours on it so far, I will definitely be getting the full thing when it comes out.

It would be icing on the cake if at the time we'd be able to trade back Prologue for the full thing discounted.

Woah!

At this point I can only speculate...but my guess is that when the full version is released, the PSN will have either an add-on pkg or full version downloadable option for a fee for owners of GT5P.

After all,Warhawk was marketed as either a DL or retail pkg as well.

there is no way they would do that. They will charge full price to GT5P owners obviously to make more money and those whom absolutely love the series will continue to do so.

I don't think there is any game out there with more photo-realistic graphics on any system. So, the answer is yes if you want to show off your system and HDTV.

the bad feedback is from people who don't like sims. if you like sims, you'll like GT5P.

I went to the Yonge/Eglinton FS yesterday. Plenty of Dual Shock 3s. I was billed as a combo - $59.99.

I also went to the one on Eglinton/Laird, but they manager started to catch on and actually called all the Best Buy's in the area in order to PM. None of the BBs had it so the only thing saving my PM was that the clerk had PM'd a guy in front of me before the manager jumped in. I had to persuade them to allow me to PM since the guy before me was allowed.

Is there any one in and around vancouver that's been giving out price matches or rainchecks?

^ OOS is valid reason, but i'm not so sure about bundle pricing. neither of FS/BB's PM policy explicitly states they don't PM bundle/pkg prices

No BB in town. I guess that means I can't price match at FS?

A successful price match was given by the fine folks at Future Shop.

What I found weird is when you add GT5P in your shopping cart at Best Buy, then a side window identifies that you qualify to purchase the genuine PS3 Dual Shock for an extra $20. However, you can't have the controller shipped to you as it's labeled for 'pick-up only'. So you can get the game mailed to you, but not the new controller?!? Checked several stores to see their availability of stock on the new controller and all were sold out around the GTA.

So on that note, check out Future Shop if you want the product in hand and save on s/h expenses.

Great deal none the less! :)

the reason for this is because they've upped the price of the controller alone to $59.99 from $54.99 which is reflecting in this bundle deal (the $5 increase) which is why you are seeing $24.99...if you call them, they will adjust it for you to reflect what is in the flyer.

The only thing about this is that the bill that they give only shows the controller as $20. I wonder if I could pick up more than 1 at that price:twisted:

The North American release date for the Logitech Driving Force GT is stated as being released in May. I checked the US Bestbuy and Fry's Electronics sites where you can preorder them right now, and they both state some actual estimated release dates. They showed them ranging from April 28th to May 8th or something very similar to that. So if that release date is true for all of North America, then it'll be some time around there. I can't wait for it either!! I've even got a gaming chair to go along with it hahaha!

BB is prbly reaping a big profit f/ this deal... i see no reason why they want to "wait until the sale is over" and "hide" the deal...
this isn't stooples trying to hide stock until FS/BB deal is over

I don't quite see the point of the Driving Force GT; all it seems to offer is that brake adjustment thing. The Driving Force Pro works with GT5:P, so why would people spend the extra $50? Am I missing something?

well, the real time adjustment function will attract some people, but I will get the G25 instead

The DFP is pretty old, so there was newer technology used for the force feedback on the DFGT, which according to some reviews feels much much better. It also helps that the DFGT was developed by Logitech closely with Polyphony so that the wheel is better 'tuned' for the finer aspects of control specifically for GT5. And the on-the-fly tuning I think will be really useful.

And the center GT logo on the wheel lights up! :D

But if you want to save cash, the DFP will probably work fine as well.

Even if we can get both from ISPU or Online... the price of the DS3 is $59.99, instead of $20.

To ppl who weren't lucky getting the BB deal, just buy it from Futureshop price-matched and you get an extra 10% off the difference! They have plenty of stock of both. Total for me was about $56 plus taxes.

It does take a little time to get them to do it though. The store on Yonge and Empress didn't want to give the 10% price difference. I later dropped by another location which said no problem to that but they wanted me to show them that the BB's IN THEIR AREA have it in stock. Once I asked them to show me their policy stating it has to be a nearby store and that I want to talk to the store manager about their wrong interpretation, they became much more co-operative. So give it a try, sooner or later they'll give in. I could have gotten the Empress store to give me the percentage discount as well but I was in a rush and had no time to argue with them. They have printouts at every store stating their price match policy with the percentage on it, so you just have to tell the CSR's to read it AGAIN CAREFULLY as it's their chain's policy for attracting more business. It's there, black on white.

Also preordered GTA4 at Empress. They'll give a free hat when you pick it up. A salesguy there told me they will have some sort of launch event with supercars (I am assuming Lambos, Ferraris and the like) and police cars in front of the store at midnight on the 29th.

All I need now is MGS4 and I'll be set for this summer :)

Here is a PM at FS with 10% off the DS3.

Having worked at FS before the pm+10% was simple to get but some of you are having trouble hope this helps. BTW if you get excuses, ask them are they worried about GM, gross margin, because PM the controller results in -90% (negative 90% lol) gross margin, a small hit to the store so they are reluctant to PM. However they can simply do a PM in the till menu and the computer will automatically adjust to the PM with 10%. Anyways some idiot will buy monster cables by the end of the night which more than make up for the loss.

i see your point there...

no, their PM policy doesn't specifically state "nearby store stock", but it's interpreted in that way b/c you have to be able to be there (hence "local / nearby" ) to buy it f/ the competitor store.

Also preordered GTA4 at Empress. They'll give a free hat when you pick it up. A salesguy there told me they will have some sort of launch event with supercars (I am assuming Lambos, Ferraris and the like) and police cars in front of the store at midnight on the 29th.

not sure about the supercars part, but yes they'll have a midnight launch event just like they did for Halo 2 & 3

checkout: http://www.futureshop.ca/marketing/GTA_IV

only at 4 stores tho:
GTA: Yonge and Dundas
Cgy: Northland
Edm: S. Edm Calgary Trail

---------

However they can simply do a PM in the till menu and the computer will automatically adjust to the PM with 10%.

they do have a till menu to which the 110% PM is automatically calc.'d, but NOT on the transaction screen. the transaction screen requires manual price override for PMs. (unlike stooples which does have the 110% PM program integrated into the transaction screen)

I feel a bit guilty, I got another one of these :o Got to unload the extra GT5P now. The PS3 should have been sold with the DS3 controller to begin with. Their litigations lasted too long.

MJM, that sales dude at the Empress store said it's going to be there in front of it, told me to join in the fun. Maybe not with supercars, but some sportier cars, who knows. I know they will be open at 12:01am as they have a sign out about it so I'd say it's highly likely. I wonder, will all FSs be open at midnight or just the ones you mentioned and this? But to tell you the truth, I don't really care about the launch. I just wanted to pass the word....although I might show up just out of curiousity.

As far as locations and PM goes, I think if a store within a reasonable driving distance has stock, they shouldn't even think about arguing with customers at all. I'm in North York, the Markham BBs, Eaton Center BB had stock (maybe even the Scarberia ones as well) so that should have been it right there. Yes, if it's in another city, farther such as Newmarket, Ajax or Mrs. Sauga ;) I would have understood why they would bring it up. I love to drive though, so to me even those would be within reasonable driving distance. As long as the price of gas used doesn't exceed the savings discount, I'm good LOL. Anyhow, they gave me what I wanted so at least one of the parties was happy :) Hope you all get one too!

the DS3's battery life is pretty much the same as the sixaxis. i've been using my DS3 for about 14 hours now and it still has 2 bars left. it also feels more sturdy and its noticeably heavier. the rumble is weaker than the DS2, but its just right imo... the DS2 was too strong.

and for those of you that like racing sims and are on the fence about GT5P, i think its totally worth it. i've put in a good 20+ hours since i got, and i haven't even went online yet. i still have 1 race left in the S-class. theres also split-screen and lots of cars.

i think Polyphony Digital is going to update the game as GT5 probably won't come out for a while.

I second that. I have a few more left in S-class. I was going for gold all the way but B6 and four others I can't get it yet. Can hardly walk away from it though, it's that good imo. GT5 is due sometime next year, so this is nice to have to ease our waiting.

lol.. I came back from BB downtown store this morning and I could only find the sixaxis controller. I looked around to see if there were hidden and voila! 2 DS controllers were hidden behind the regular sixaxis controllers.. lol I quicked grabbed 2 and looked for the GT5P but no success. I talked to the employee to see if there were any more stocks on GT5P and luckily, she went back to the shelf and took out the hidden copy! (It was behind the computer) Her face expression was unforgettable as she couldnt believe that I found 2 DS controllers. (They cleared out all controllers right after I grabbed them)
So I took them to the counter to some stupid idiot who did not know to read properly. She rang GT5P & DS3 and it came out as a bundle (which is totally legit) but she didn't understand the simple addition of $20+$39.99 and kept blaming the computer for 10 mins... I tried to explain to her but she wouldnt listen. Anyways, I rainchecked one extra copy but my receipt doesn't show anything.. is this alright?

like they said, you need to buy both to get discount. which is exactly what you're trying to do at FS.

To make it easy on yourself, you could just print out the receipt attached by zzz3 few posts above. If you show them a receipt or copy of one, they rarely ask questions. The way I got my second PM was that I gave them a photocopy of the first one. I didn't feel like going through all the bs all over again. That sounds kind of ******** and pointless! When I did my raincheck thing, customer service charged me $59.99 for the DS3, but said that my GT5P will basically be free when I go to pick it up and I wouldn't have to pay anything (since the difference of the $59.99 - $39.99 = $20 which was the "bundle" price for the DS3 with GT5P). So I even got her to write down on my raincheck "Doesn't have to pay" when I go to pick up my games - I bought two).

I went to FS yesterday, and they said they wouldnt match the bundle until I show them the ad. I printed the ad and the cashier says the manager will check the site. She then tells me the manager cant find the deal on the BB site. I go to the manager and show him the online flyer and the deal. After that he said it's fine if I get the bundle. I go up front and tell her that I should also get the 10% difference cause Im PM'ing. She said its not possible on this bundle. I was like WTF? I asked her again and she said no. So I bought the things and left. Was she right? Or did I get ripped off?

I ordered it online and got the letter saying to pick up the order. I went and asked for my order, but they couldn't find it and there weren't any DS3 on shelf. So they sold me the game for $39.99 and a raincheck for the DS3 for $20.
I went back the next day and did the same thing. Then I returned the games as the game is the only thing on the receipt.

So happy!!

You got ripped off. There policy states they beat any competitor's price, as well as give 10% off the difference. In this case, the game costs $39.99 and the controller costs $54.99, so total is $94.98 at FS. BB was selling it for $59.98 total, which is $34.99 cheaper, so you should have received $3.50 off the purchase.

Hahaha, I just figured that it sounded like he was pretty comfortable about being a short man in this world...so maybe the documentary would be able to give him some good useful info and comedy he could incorporate into his repertoire, and meet women! :) I remember when I was his age that comedy and good honest general information about myself gave women the impression of good self-confidence and scored major points. Further refining that over the last 10 years has well, served me very well! :D

Well I'd shout that they are not honoring their policy due to your age. That'll get you somewhere, I'm sure. Normally I'd say open the product and threaten to return it, but since you paid peanuts for the DS3, they would probably WELCOME you returning it, since they could just sell it for $39.99 open box no problem. If you don't feel confident enough on your own (I wouldn't worry too much about it, a lot of folks are), then I'd go with an adult who doesn't mind making a scene.

thats totally wrong lol.. At futureshop this bundle is non-existant.. there is no price for this bundle as a whole. So the cashier is right in not giving the 10% of the difference. If you were matching a bundle which they actually had, not just individual items then of course you are entitled to the 10% of the difference. Do you understand what I'm saying? its hard to grasp the concept. Regardless if they sell it separately or not, you are price matching a bundle so in the eyes of futureshop they are willing to match the price, but they dont have a bundle price for those two items as one. Hence the PM policy is rarely in effect here. Most of the time you can never PM bundles, you can only get them to match it. (please get this information correct before you tell someone to go and bring an adult to make a scene..)

Perhaps I worded it poorly. The deal was, you purchase GT5:P for $39.99, you get a DS3 for $19.99. FS regular price for a DS3 is $54.99, hence a $35 difference, hence $3.50 off. IF BB said "Buy a DS3 and GT5:P for $59.99, it would be a different story, since that is indeed a "bundle." As far as FS knows, this is isn't a bundle, but just a promotion. Don't say I'm "totally wrong" when myself and dozens of other RFDers have received the price beat. But thanks for coming out.

edit: Just in case you still believe I'm incorrect...

I agree. It seems like too much extra paper work. Plus the chance that they'll processed it incorrectly since the promo is now over.
Hopefully I'll be finally able to set up my $20 HP Printer/scanner (as mentioned in a previous thread:cheesygri ) so I can post up pics of the receipt and RC so maybe some others (pointing at past/present BB employees) can shed some light on it.

they match product price not extra stuff or offers thrown in. So if they BB was selling GT5P for 39.99 + they throw in a DS3 controller for 19.99 and FS selling for 49.99 they would match 39.99 + 10% of diff. There is no reason for them to give you the controller because they dont have such a offer nor are they offering such a promotion for you to match so there IS no price to match. Price matching is matching price for price not price for price + product ? .. But if you find a noob enough CSR they will do it :P

I don't think you understand the whole concept of a "price match." Of course FS doesn't have the offer, if they did there'd be no reason to PM...What excuse can they give for denying the 10%? It's a free offer? No. It's a bonus offer? No, it's not. Bonus would mean that the "bonus item" comes included, and obviously the DS3 and game are not included together. You have the right to buy one or the other, or both, with the discount added on.

Anyways, to the other RFDer who did not get their 10%, it's well within their policy, I believe some RFDers had manager approval, so no worries.

solidus
Apr 25th, 2008, 03:00 PM
I second g_f above. It's not a bonus offer and it's clearly printed on their instore printouts that they'll sell you at 10% of the difference when doing the PM. That's their business policy to stay competitive and steal customers from the competition. They came up with it not us, they must honour their claim. For ppl not being lucky with getting that $3.5+tax off, just tell the CSR this and that they should read their own policy again.

a simple "written notice" on the receipt doesn't really guarantee you anything... at least IMO it doesn't.

When I got the game, I already had a DS from Asia in January, but together they work great. I mean, I don't think the rumble has changed from the PS2 days, but it's nice to have it back. Just wish they had it for COD4 so that every time you got shot or 'naded you'd feel it...sheesh.

But then I got the G25 wheel, and now I think the game is SICK!! This wheel just brings a whole new dimension to the game. You feel every little bump (like when you drive over the rumble strips) or nudge when another car hits you. It's insane!!

I'm just going crazy right now because I can't get the online to work...I tried forwarding one of the specific ports for GT5P, but I think there are more to try...

But long story short...YES....loving the game! Mainly because of the Wheel. hahahaha

let's get clear on this: BB is NOT selling this as a bundle.

there have been past flyers where BB does specifically advertise "bundle deals"... the most obvious ones being the console + freebie (game/controller) deals...

Most of the time you can never PM bundles, you can only get them to match it. (please get this information correct before you tell someone to go and bring an adult to make a scene..)

actually, bundles are PMable. there is nothing explicitly stated in their LPG policy that they exclude bundle deals.

It is a raincheck and that's why it is showing $0 in the total because you haven't bought it yet. The price shows on the raincheck is what they will honour. Did they promise you to adjust the DS3 price when you go back to buy the GT5?

Yeah they said they would refund $20+tax off the DS3. But how good is their word? Especially since the promo is done now?

I got a raincheck too. Mine only shows the GT5P for the $39 price. I asked the cashier about it not showing the $20 DS3. She said I can get the DS3 for $20 when I redeem the raincheck.

Now, I'm not feeling so confident that they will honor the $20 DS3 when I go to redeem my raincheck since there's no mention of it.

I think you'll be fine. If they won't honour it, just complain until they do. :cheesygri

hang on to the flyer and your receipt/raincheck date would match their promo they had at that time.

Luckily I did. I went recycle diving early Friday morning to get it out of those (taller) new bins before the trucks came. :cheesygri
