i'm cleaning out my parents unit, its full of old building materials, mostly wood (2x4's, old doors, desks). i have no cash now for a Garbage bin, so i am wondering if there is like a city dump where i can haul the stuff little by little in my suv, and if there is, does it cost anything? there is a lot of stuff so it will take me a while, but if there is a place i can dump it, its the only option i have now.

There's dumping facilities at Commissioner St., Bermonsey and Eglinton, and Markham (or McCowan?) near Sheppard.
It's not that expensive to dump crap there. I can fill up my minivan with construction waste and pay about $50.
They weigh your vehicle on the way in and out and you pay the difference in weight. If you're smart or if there's a line, you can skip the weigh out if you know the deposit is less than what you'd pay in weight.

If some of the stuff is re-usable.. Put it up for free on CraigsList or KIJIJI. :cheesygri

Toronto City dump. I believe there are a few of them. I am only familiar with the Ingirim one. You go in and weigh yourself + vehicle + garbage weight. You pay them or leave a deposit. When you exit you weigh yourself and basically you pay the difference. If you paid the full amount when you initially got on the weight scale then they will give you the differnce back. If you left a 50 dollar deposit and if you threw away more then 50 dollars worth then you pay the difference. I believe its $80/ton.

Tons of official info here:

Note that if you have scrap metal, it's free to dump. Best to haul a load of metal-only, which should be completely free, rather than mix it, which I don't know if they can separate the costs and might just charge you for the whole load, including scrap metal.

True but if you have enough scrap metal sell it yourself. There used to be a junk yard on Eastern Ave. that would buy it. A long time ago we sold scrap there and then went inside for shots. Great way to end a day.

I don't work there but I don't think you are supposed to skip the weigh out. If they undercharged you on the weigh in then I think you are required to pay the balance on the weigh out....but maybe I have it all wrong.
