I need some advice to install a door into the drywall wall between the garage and home. The house is 24 years old and only has the large car doors as an extrance.

I want to install a new garage access door from the foyer into the garage. My q's

1. Permit req?
2. Type of door - can I use a regular stell entrance door as sold at homedepot?
3. any other advice? Is this a relatively easy job?

TIA

This is an attached garage with no entrance directly to the house?

There should be specific code requirements due to the risk of carbon monoxide entering the home; ie. the door needs to shut on its own at the minimum. Anyone else?

Steel fire rated door, self closing with seal. Yes you need a permit. Contact your municipal office.

As for how easy, no idea, I do not know what is in your walls and if any structure would need to be added.

I did mine two years ago. Way more work than I expected. I had to cut through a small section of foundation wall to make mine work.

As mentioned, self closing is required. Install an extra seal on the garage side as extra protection. Also, make sure you know whats required as far as re-enforcing the wood framing as you will need to cut one or two studs out for the rough opening of the door. Do not cheat on that or you may have structural problems.

This is not a project to to cheat on.

Does not need to be steel but for sure needs to be self closing, sealed (door frame and all) and, fire rated. It does need a permit and an inspection.
