I have 3 pre-cast concrete steps in the front of my porch that I would like to replace. Has anyone had this done recently and can anyone recommend a person or company that could do a small job as this (they are too heavy to move by hand as far as I know)?

I have the same situation. I also have a precast concrete steps that I would like to get rid of or at the very least spruce up.
The problem is how do you get rid of something that must weight a ton.
Have you thought of laminating it with patio stones? I'm wondering if it's something that I should attempt.

You should always take the recommendation of a "newbie" especially one who in almost all of his posts recommends the same company. ;)

Those precast concrete steps are usually hollow inside, so it shouldn't be that heavy

That's what I figured. Not a very honest way to do business.

Mine aren't hollow inside (as far as I can tell). I can't even get the top one which is the smallest to move. I've seen the hollow ones. The ones I have look and feel like solid pieces.

I am getting my porch resurfaced with a concrete polymer overlay (Jewel Stone), but since my steps are separate from the porch and are sitting sort of unlevel, I wanted them replaced so that the area behind it can be refinished as well.
I've considered redoing the walkway and steps using stone and am currently looking for estimates on that (I just don't have the time to do it myself). But as a last resort, I am looking for replacement precast steps that won't look as fugly.

I'm looking forward to seeing some advice on this issue as well - the steps to my 10-year-old house need to be replaced already. (I'm looking for help in the Ottawa/Gatineau area.)

my husband helped the guy across the street do his a couple years ago.
he's moved now though, so I can't take a picture of them without possibly looking like a creep (taking pictures of houses randomly-heh)

I'll need to install 2 or 3 concrete steps. Any ideas where to buy them?
Is it easy DYI job?

Hi everyone!
I am wondering if anyone can help me.
We have two steps, builder issued, that we'd like to replace with poured concrete, and want to put poured concrete steps along the length of our house, about 40 feet. We have a slope along the side of our house and the grass does not grow there.
Does anyone have any good contractors/companies that can do this work? How deep do the areas need to be dug, and what would be the general pricing for such work. We are not looking for stamped concrete, just the plain white/gray.
Has anyone dealt with a company called DiCrete? If so, please provide whatever info you can. All help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bees.

I had the concrete steps replaced at my house. They were not hollow. They did weigh lots and needed a bobcat and hammer drill to get them out.
As I was getting some landscaping done and getting some interlock installed, I had a few options. I could have had the landscaper put the interlock brick over the existing steps (they can level the surface with material) and then put the bricks on the porch as well to keep the steps looking right or, there are numerous ways to re-surface the steps with various products or, take out the existing steps and make new ones using interlock.
I chose the latter option and it was a much bigger job than anticipated. It took a lot of labour to break up the old steps and then re-building the steps again. It looks good now but in retrospect, it would have been much cheaper to brick over the old steps. My price was in the package of all the work but I would guess that it will cost around 2 to 3 grand to remove and replace the steps (you can now get them with embedded wires for melting snow and ice).
You need to find a landscaper or interlock guy and they will price out the job for you. Sorry, I cannot help with a company in your area that can do this work but there must be some.

Why don't you guys go for stone instead of concrete.
You do know the salt will ruin either one but the stone has a tendancy to last.
FYI can't really have a champagne lifestyle on a beer budget.
Go for wood and a great stain or wood and paint the textured slate/granit look so you will have not only look but function as you won't slip and break your a$$ on the steps.
