Hey guys, some guy is selling his rrod Xbox 360 to me for pretty cheap, He says it's not been tampered with and still has warranty but he doesn't want to wait for shipping . I have 2 questions.
1) Will Microsoft pay shipping both ways for a rrod system?
2) How can I make sure his system hasn't been tampered with?
3) Is there anything else I should be worrying about?
Thank You, Ali

I sent my 1st gen 360 with RROD back on a Friday, and received a refurb replacement unit on the following Tuesday. MS paid for shipping & repairs (I received a prepaid box from Purolator).
I believe there's a non-tamper sticker somewhere on the unit that you could check. However, you may want to make sure it hasn't been banned from XBL.. but I'm not sure if a repair centre will check (or care) about that.
Another thing is if it's an HDMI unit or not. I'm not sure if they'll replace a newer-HDMI equipped unit with another HDMI 360.

He could of taken the sticker off by heating it and then placed it back on when he found out he couldn't fix it, but then not sure if MS will know. BTW, if you don't get it PM me, I want to try and fix one.

What questions did they ask you? and does it have to be registered?
Thx, Ali

When I was on the line w/ a tech we just had to go through basic troubleshooting .. ie, try a different game, unplug the hdd, don't use a powerbar. Although, by the tone of the conversation, it was pretty clear that the tech and I were on the same wavelength-- we both knew that this was just standard procedure before repair and I'm sure 80% of their calls are for RROD. My RROD was actually intermittent, but the tech suggested that "it wasn't" just so we could go ahead with the RROD replacement rather than having to run any other diagnostic BS. I was pleasantly surprised by a down to earth call centre employee :)
I only supplied the serial # and my contact info, there wasn't any XBL-related questions but he did reference the serial for date of purchase (and possibly other info that may be on file).

My XBL account was linked to it, but I didn't do the official registration or anything.

If the seller has called about the problem or has registered it then he will have to give you all his information because I gave my sister my old core console after I won an Elite console and because I had already gone through the RROD problem on my original core console it was registered when I called in the first time.
I heard my sister and her boyfriend are experiencing intermittent RROD and called the XBOX tech support however because it was in my name she was told I had to go through all of the mumbo-jumbo to have it replaced, etc.

Absolutely, if he says it's good for a warranty repair he shouldn't have a problem with an extra 10min to make some money.
