I was looking in investing in a wireless router and set up a wireless internet connection at my house. Currently I have 3 computers that don't have any wireless cards but my laptop has the Wi-Fi built in. So I was thinking to get a 802.11g wireless router and set it up.
Now if I do this I will most likley take off internet from 2 of those computers.
Now do I have to set anything up on a computer at all for the wireless to work. Or could I just pop in the USB wireless adaptor into one of the computers and then turn my laptop wireless on and start surfing?

The wireless router comes with a CD which you have to setup in order for the router to recognize the modem (for internet), you also have to have a firewall.
On the 2 computer which you will plug usb wireless adapter you also need to run the cd (wireless adapter cd). After that you will just add the wireless network name.
On the laptop you just need to add the wireless network name and everything will work now.

I never ran the cd that came with my router. I just plugged the one pc via cat5e from the router, powered up the router, turned my laptop on and it found the wireless signal. For your setup, 1 computer should be wired to the router, your laptop should have wifi built it, if not get a wireless card. For your 2nd destop, you can either run a cat5e cable to it from the router or wireless adapter that plugs into a pci slot or usb2.0 port. You should encript your signal to make it secure.

I herd about that CD program but honestly if I need to setup a program to use the signal I could just use it without a wireless.

Same I never run the CD that comes with the routers. I just get into the setup page and config everything there.
As for a router I suggest a Linksys WRT54GL & flash it with DD-WRT you will then have a great stable router. I have done this with many of my clients and have yet to have any problems with this router/setup
