When was the last time these guys worked? I signed up for a month's sub. last night only to find out after Googling that people are having trouble with them but that was back in February.

I use them and don't have any problems. Although they do have that "502" problem. once i had gotten that and it didn't work for 30min. Then just a couple days ago I could only connect to 5 out of 10 servers because of this but It was still giving me good speeds.

The only problem was last night around 8-10 I was only getting less than half my normal speed but it then went back to my full speed.

So far its been alright.

P.S what server are you using? If your SSL server is slow try the regular or change the port. I changed mine to port 443 and its faster than before.

Can't connect at all. I tried their SSL but it didn't validate. So far I haven't been able to authenticate yet. Just signed up last night but I have been with them on/off for the last year.

Haven't tried this morning though.

hmm what Program are you using? I'm using Alt.Binz. I just tried and all 10 SSL servers connected on port 443.

Check on the website if you can login. Maybe its your username or password?

Seems weird.

I used to use them and then went to www.newshosting.com - I think they are a lot more reliable. They are second only to www.giganews.com in my opinion.

usename is fine. I can log into their control panel but not their server to grab binaries.

BS. Still can't connect at the moment. SSL or otherwise. Using Panic Unison but works with AStraweb.

Weird. I used them last night. Speeds were slow but manageable. I've been with them for 4+ years. They can be unreliable in spots but very good overall esp considering they're pretty much unlimited.

I always use them, I like the 3 dollar 3 day. It's working fine for me, I have been using my 3 day pass since yesterday and actually atm :D

Only problem you should worry about is Rogers cock blocking ports etc. sometimes my speeds were horrible and it was not usenet servers end

Yes. what client are you using and can you start the client's logging? That should give you some clues.

If you have a Highspeed Plus account you will need to login with username@hsplus.usenetserver.com. All other accounts will be just your username.
All customers have full access to all our news server farms. These farms can be accessed via the names:

* news.usenetserver.com (all groups)
* secure.usenetserver.com (all groups, SSL)
* text.usenetserver.com (text only groups)

the virtual servers nntp1.usenetserver.com - nntp4.usenetserver.com make up news.usenetserver.com. You are allowed to connect to each of the nntp server groups directly if you wish.

2. What port should I connect to?
Port 119 is the default NNTP port, but we support ports 23, 25, 119, 1720, 3128 and 8000. Secure.usenetserver.com only allows encrypted SSL connections on ports 443, 563 and 8080.

Try all that. Do you have a high speed plus account? maybe thats why.

I just used them a couple min ago and it was maxing out my connection. Maybe get in contact with them and find out. Or possibly check your router/computer and your configuration with your client.

UNS is notorious for connectivity problems. They literally happen month after month.

But definitely try and make sure you're using the correct ports, especially if you're trying to use SSL, which should be 443 IIRC

The problems they have now are literally NOTHING compared to what they used to be. I was one of their original customers waaaayyyy back. Spooling problems were happening practically daily. What use is a paid premium news service when NOTHING >1MB were complete? After a year of punishment, I quit the service and moved to easynews for a half decade despite being more/MB.
A few authentication hiccups once in a while I can tolerate :)

Seems to resolve itself out. I deleted the profile and tried again. Still no luck with their secure.usenetserver.com server. I changed the port accordingly but no response. I'm using Panic Unison on the Mac platform. Yeah yeah. No Mac jokes, please.

The weird thing is my bandwidth tracker is showing a constant 20kb/sec flow of outbound traffic. Why is my client sending so much data out?

powerusenet would be 2nd but since they are a giganews reseller I guess It doesn't count.

hmm last night I had a strange problem. Seemed like whatever I tried downloading it wouldn't download all parts. i.e only 50 out of 126 would download and only be 40mb out of 100mb.

Tried downloading the same file again and its back to normal though.
