I'm looking for a new TV and I see SIG have some Sharp AQUOS on special for $799.99 but they're refurbished. Do you think it's trustable? I have a refurb 22" Samsung monitor and it's been running fine, but are TVs different?

I would be very cautious, LCD is very fragile and if possible, avoid LCD TV ref.

Is there a warranty?

unless it comes with a decent warranty id go with no.
dealing with dead pixels can be a pain in the ass.

3 month warranty which means it'll break down in the 4th month lol. I wouldn't do it unless you don't mind if it breaks down and you have to buy a new one. whenever i buy something refurbed I always think this way

For the most part, there is no refurbishing dead pixels (otherwise it wouldn't be so much of a big deal) and not much can be done with a panel and it's matrix. For the industry, refurbishing means fixing the electronic sauce... new board, new component that failed early, or just simply re-packaging of a returned unit (returned for many reasons). I would be a bit Leary of the reason, it could be the original failure was left undiscovered and only the symptom was addressed. If the savings justified the gamble, then it's a deal... but most of the time, the savings are no better than a first buy full warranty found on RFD on occasion.

$800 is the price refurbished. You didn't mention if it was 720p or 1080p
$1000 new... for the 720p variety and a bit more again for the 1080p

$200 savings... when a 37" Toshiba, Sony, or LG are going for $799

If you're gonna gamble... make the reward justify the risk, at least 50% off.

Hmm yeah, I don't know about refurb, but I bought a used 42" LG 720p in Nov for $900 and it turned out to be pretty good still. Sure, prices have fallen since, but I am still happy with it :D

Make sure the Sharp is not a D62 panel and you should be safe.

Almost guarantee that it will have dead pixels on the screen. Unless you're buying it from a store with a good return policy; I wouldn't even waste your time.

Just curious, why avoid the D62 panels? Banding?

Personally, I don't like purchasing refurbished products. Sometime you could get a decent price as well as a decent product refurbished.

I would have to say no since it is still 799.99 and its nothing small.

So what's a good 42" LCD in the market that cost around $800?

A bit more expensive, $299 more, http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&MSCSProfile=3C79F0C7EA3162B25DCF0857B6387C8E560D77 3D5F262505A63707E790130F0D444F92D6E98AE53A5A67EE01 E2AD6F62D38C172FB1BD37559DD48F853D3DC159E519B3310A 65A66D6116E13923155229E2C9026190D530F448A863A1FF6E 796B7D419F251FD8DEEB16B36C7E2B43D6C4D47CCF3299B55B 57&sku_id=0770HDS0010086856&catid=#

I'd say yes. If you're getting a significant discount off the best sale price (at least 30% off). I've bought quite a few refurbished items (zune, ipod, LCD TV, etc) and 90% of the time they look brand new and they have all lasted for years. Make sure they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee though in case you see dead pixels (make sure to check soon as you open the package, or even in store if they let you). Dead pixels you should be able to determine way before that 3 month warranty is up. I've never had anything refurb die on me the moment the warranty ended.
