Similar to what Barracuda does with this:

I'm looking for a cheaper solution to implement for a friend's office. I'm wondering if any of the Linux firewall variants also do content filtering / spyware / malware / what-have you.

$1500 doesn't seem too bad to me, but he appears to have decided that everything should be free. :)

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Depends on the size of the office, number of computers and what he's trying to filter I suppose... $1500 for two computers would be a little steep, but if it's a big office...

For smaller companies I'd go with opendns (opendns.com) which would filter web content quite a bit. Or you could install K9 software on each computer which would give him control over what kind of sites that people can visit. Then I'd just install a good antivirus program with antispyware.

However, if it's a huge office, this product would definitely work if they got the money for it!

Yeah, I've asked to find out how many PC's he's actually concerned about. I assume none of his partners will want filtering, so a good firewall and then the K9 software or similar on the problematic computers might be enough.
