Hey guys and gals,
I have a guitar, it's a Gibson Epiphone, the most basic unit you can buy, I bought it about 6 years ago but never really played much, and I've just recently picked up the guitar again this summer (see my recent creations at my Utube channel in my sig). I'm thinking of buying a new guitar for this upcoming spring/summer, and wonder if the sound I'll get from it will be much different. I do lots of fingerpicking and random singing, so maybe it will be better to go with a classical (nylon stringed guitar)? Looking to spend ~250 on an acoustic, thanks for any help!
cheers

The sound of a guitar is dependent on so many different factors. The biggest factors I would say are type of wood, strings, and body style of the guitar. Other smaller factors that can sometimes make a difference are material of nut/saddle and bracing style.

You should buy a classical if that's the type of style you play. If by fingerpicking, you mean you enjoy fingerstyle playing (i.e. Don Alders, Andy McKee, Don Ross, etc...) then you may want to consider a classical, although most fingerstylists still use steel-string acoustic guitars. If by fingerpicking you mean you like to pick songs like Stairway to Heaven or Tears in Heaven then stick with a steel-string acoustic.

For $250, you won't get much, especially new (considering accessories and taxes). Look to craigslist.
