Just had a hard disk fail :( 120gb of stuff in there aiaiai!!! heres the failure... when i plug in the hard disk it spins up fine is recognized fine as well.. only thing is that it asks to be formatted.. what are my options to recover the data..

Don't play with it.

If the data is critical, send it to a recovery centre (be prepared to shell out the cash.)

I've heard ppl talking about freezing hard drives

no data critical at all... just would like to have stuff back :) not willing to shell out the money for data recovery..

freezing hard drives only works with hard disk crashes etc... the drive works perfectly it just lost its allocation or something.

try a program called file scavenger OR Restorer 2000.

i have had good resluts with each.

as long as the disk can be mounted you should use this progie

Try Active@ Partition Recovery v.5.0.357 Enterprise Toolkit. I used it to recover deleted partitions. Once you recovered the partitions, the files and folders should be there. Used it 2 times and it works like a charm.
